1 Year Of Beginning

Feng Mian's heart boiled with rage when she heard what Yu Yan said. She had heard a bit of what had happened in the past, which resulted in Yu Yan's failure to get promotion in her career.

Now, a similar thing occurred.

"She's a b*tch!" Feng Mian cursed. She felt really angry at Yu Yan's sister. Why would she destroy her own sister's happiness?

Yu Yan looked at Feng Mian. She knew that Feng Mian was angry at her behalf, but she knew that nothing could be done. She rubbed her eyes as Feng Mian handed her tissue.

"She beat you up?" Feng Mian asked, her eyes glowed in ruthless glint.

Yu Yan looked at Feng Mian and nodded lightly. "I caught the two of them in the act in my apartment. Hah, you should see the place. It was a mess now. I poured hot water on the two of them when they're still busy on my bed. Bao Tu was angry and punched my face. I was not quick enough to evade.

Then my sister came in while screaming that I ruined her face. Heh, I don't care anymore. Even if her face is ruined, she deserved it."

Feng Mian listened to Yu Yan's words carefully, feeling a bit of disbelief. She knew that Yu Yan was a decisive person, but she didn't expect Yu Yan to finally act out against her sister.

In the past, Yu Yan had lost her boyfriend, who was a customer in the company. At that time, Yu Yan still stayed strong in front of them. Even when the company was blaming her for making it lose a deal, Yu Yan dealt with it strongly and took care of the matter. It was not that much for the company back then, which only halted Yu Yan's promotion.

However, when everyone didn't see her, Yu Yan would cry her heart out. It was only coincidence that Feng Mian found her, drinking her sorrow on Friday night in the bar not far from this motel. Since Feng Mian had been quite close with Yu Yan in the company, she helped the latter. The two of them have been close since then, helping each other and having fun together.

"You did good," Feng Mian said slowly.

Yu Yan laughed dryly. "Do you know, this is already the second time?"

"Second time?"

"Yeah, even my past boyfriend, my sister snatched him," Yu Yan showed a helpless smile.

Feng Mian was stunned. She had heard that Yu Yan had a fallout with her past boyfriend, but she never knew that it would be because of her sister. Why did Yu Yan's sister even snatch her boyfriend?

Yu Yan showed a helpless gaze on her eyes. "Mother and Father would be angry, but I don't care anymore. I think I haven't told you much about my family, right? I come from a middle class family in the capital city. My family is not that prominent, but we're pretty good.

When I was a child, me and my sister were close to each other. However, whatever I want, my sister always wants it too. When I finally graduated from high school, my sister insisted that I work so that she would have enough money to court people from the richer family.

In my family, I'm always the one with worse results. Because of that, Father and Mother agreed to what my sister suggested. I'm the only one who didn't."

Yu Yan paused for a bit, her eyes showed traces of pain. "I ran out of my house and lived in City F. I worked part time for a year to collect money and then started my tuition in university. Thankfully, I can earn enough even though I have to work while studying."

Feng Mian's eyes widened. She never knew this part of the story because Yu Yan only told her that she stayed away from her family. Never had she thought that Yu Yan was actually running away from home.

"Didn't your family send someone to chase you?"

"They did, but I refused to return back. No matter what, they could not force me to return back or I'll release to the media the record of when they shouted at me, forcing me to work even though I come from a well off family," Yu Yan replied. "The recorder is kept by a lot of people from my school, whom I asked to release it as soon as there was any news about me returning to Yu Family."

Yu Family?

Feng Mian had been learning under Butler Lou about the powerful families in the capital city. While Yu Family was not that bad, it was a bit in the middle. Just a little bit more and it couldn't be considered as a rich family because its reputation and income were truly on the line.

"My family managed to find some of them while the rest are unknown. I would never tell them how many people I sent the record to," Yu Yan said calmly. The way she spoke was as if she was telling the story of a stranger that was completely unrelated to her. "In actuality, I also sent you one not long ago."

Feng Mian's eyes widened. She was not in the mood to check her email, so she didn't check it. Her eyes narrowed. "Are you thinking that your family might do something to you?"

"Maybe, maybe not," Yu Yan's eyes gleamed. "Bao Family is more powerful than my previous boyfriend, which might be the reason why my sister aimed at him. It was only a step away from reaching the top 10 most powerful families in the capital city."

Feng Mian nodded. "If you want to, I can ask Liang to help."

"No. This is my battle," Yu Yan said slowly as a ruthless glint appeared on her eyes. No matter what, she would not allow her best friend to do the dirty work for her. She wanted to make her family pay with her own hands.

"Alright."

Yu Yan hugged her best friend. "Thank you."

"If you ever need me, I'll always be here for you."

"Feng Mian."

"Yes?"

"Do you think that I'm destined to live alone forever?" Yu Yan asked. Her first boyfriend was snatched by her sister. Then her second boyfriend was also taken by her sister.

Feng Mian's eyes widened. "No, of course not. You just met a few jerks in your life that couldn't see your real worth. Maybe someday you'll be able to meet someone who will love you forever. But even if you stay single forever, I'll be your best friend forever."

Hearing that, Yu Yan smiled. She felt glad that she met with Feng Mian. At first, she was only helping Feng Mian a bit in the company because she saw the shadow of her old self in Feng Mian. She was three years older than Feng Mian. At the time she met with Feng Mian, she had just finished her university.

However, she also entered the company a few months before when she was still in her last semester. Because of that, she became Feng Mian's senior when she entered the company.

She managed to become the team leader when Feng Mian was still an intern thanks to her hard work. However, things didn't always go as smooth as one wanted things to be.

"Let's sleep."

"Here?"

"Yes. The bed might be small, but it can fit two people," Feng Mian replied with a grin.

Yu Yan didn't know whether to laugh or cry when she heard what Feng Mian said. She could only nod her head. Besides, Yu Yan didn't have any interest in returning back to her apartment. Just thinking of what had happened there made her unwilling to go.

Feng Mian walked to the living room and looked at Zhang Liang. "Liang, do you mind sleeping here tonight? I don't have sofa, but I can take blanket out to create additional bedding in the living room."

The living room was small, but if he pushed the table a bit, there would be enough space for him to sleep. Zhang Liang nodded. He didn't really mind as he had slept in his office a few times too. "Alright. Cover yourself properly and don't catch a cold."

"Yes. Sir!"

Feng Mian took the additional blanket she had that was used for her to sleep when her mother came over. After all, she couldn't possibly let her mother sleep on the floor, so she gave up her bed and slept on top of the blanket. After helping Zhang Liang to set it up, Feng Mian walked to her bedroom and noticed Yu Yan sleeping.

She might have been tired after the ordeal.

"Nite, Yan'er."

Lying on the bed, Feng Mian squeezed to make sure the bed was enough for the two of them. She slowly closed her eyes and drifted to sleep.
