Chapter 1591 "Laitong" Cup

Chapter 1591 "Laitong" Cup
Chen Wenzhe had made various tea cups and wine utensils before, but those were not listed as one of the top ten famous cups in China.

It's just that I'm not an insider and don't know much.

Like the lotus cup, one of the ten famous cups, not many people know about it.

The lotus cup, or "lotus cup", first appeared in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

The inner and outer walls of this utensil are all carved with exquisite lotus petal patterns.

Many famous kilns in the Song Dynasty were fired, such as Ding Kiln, Jingzhen Kiln, Cizhou Kiln, Jun Kiln, Yaozhou Kiln and so on.

Lotus petal-shaped patterns are carved on the inside or outside, and the lotus cups made by carving, printing, shaping and painting were first invented in the Song Dynasty.

Engraving is most common on Ding kiln wares; printing is mostly on Ding kiln, JDZ kiln and Yaozhou kiln;

Shaping, that is, shaping the edge of the mouth into a lotus shape with sharp edges and corners, is the first of its kind in Jun Kiln;
The painting is to paint lotus petals with black glaze on the white ground outside the cup, or to paint lotus leaves and lotus flowers inside, which is the style of Cizhou kiln.

Most of them are open, with rounded lips, slightly arced abdominal wall, and pie-shaped feet.

There is a circle of convex string patterns on the outer edge of the lip, and three layers of six-petal upturned lotus patterns are engraved on the outer abdomen, usually with green and white glaze.

There can be many styles of this kind of cup, such as the secret color porcelain that Chen Wenzhe received before, which is the high-legged lotus tureen.

In fact, it is also a lotus cup.

Also, a suction cup that Chen Wenzhe made before is also a lotus cup.

The "Famille Lotus Flower Suction Cup" from the Qing Dynasty also has a name called "Guangxu Pastel Taihu Autumn Exercise Cup". In this way, many people should know what a lotus cup is.

Except for these familiar cups, Chen Wenzhe has never made them before, and there are quite a few cups that he has not even heard of.

For example, the Dragon Head Cup, as the name suggests, this kind of cup must have a dragon ornament.

In fact, the real dragon hand cup was one of the very popular cup styles in the Tang Dynasty, and most of them were Tang Sancai wares.

The body of the dragon head cup is mostly embossed in the shape of a dragon's head, and the longan is the finishing touch. Such a beautifully shaped utensil can be called an outstanding masterpiece among Tang Sancai.

It turns out that Chen Wenzhe specially made Tang Sancai cups. Although he has never made Tang Sancai cups, it is certainly not difficult to make them now.

But think about it, Tang Sancai cups, no matter how you look at them, how strange they are!

In 1988, three Tang tombs were discovered in Qianying Village, Cang County.

Due to the long age and stolen excavations, not many cultural relics were unearthed in the subsequent cleaning and excavation.

However, one of the three-color cups is ingeniously made and has a unique shape, which has attracted the attention of experts and is now displayed in the historical exhibition hall on the second floor of Cangzhou Museum.

The inside and outside of this three-color cup are glazed with three-color glaze, and the outside is based on white, with ochre-yellow and green colors applied in between.

The body of the cup is embossed in the shape of a dragon's head, with wide open eyes and mouth opening to spit water. The water column rolls up to form a handle, which is ingeniously connected to the mouth of the cup.

The edge of the mouth is stamped with dragon scales, which is natural and vivid.

Although the cup body has been partially repaired, the overall shape is realistic and the decoration is rich, showing the charm of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

If you observe this tricolor cup carefully, you will be attracted by its unique shape.

As we all know, the traditional cups in our country are mostly without handles, with regular cup bodies and not many decorations.

This three-color cup not only has a dragon head as the body and a water column as the handle, but also has an exaggerated shape.

After research, it was actually influenced by the Western "Laitong" cup.

The "Laitong" cup is essentially a horn-shaped cup, which is very similar to a horn cup. It was mainly popular in ancient West Asia and Europe.

"Laitong" is a transliteration, and it was originally a cup made of animal horn.

Later, it developed into a horn-shaped cup body made of gold, silver and other materials.

The bottom of the cup is decorated in the shape of an animal head, and it also has a unique shape of drinking out of a small sip.

Westerners believe that the "Laitong" cup can be filled with divine wine, so it is regarded as a holy object.

When drinking, the liquid is poured out from the bottom of the mouth, and the drinker needs to drink it all in one gulp to show respect for the gods.

Later, the "Laitong" cup was introduced to my country along the Silk Road, which also affected the cup shape of our country.

A national treasure-level cultural relic collected by the Xishan History Museum-the agate cup with a gold-encrusted animal head in the Tang Dynasty is a typical representative of this type of cup.

The Tang Dynasty was a dynasty with unprecedented prosperity in my country's economy and culture, and the cultural exchanges between China and the West were frequent.

While Chinese civilization has influenced its neighbors and the West, our country has also actively absorbed the essence of foreign civilizations as nutrients to further create a broad, compatible and splendid Chinese civilization.

A three-color dragon head cup from the Cangzhou Museum is in the same shape as the first-class cultural relic unearthed from the family tomb of Li Tai (the fourth son of Tang Taizong Li Shimin) in SY City.

These two three-color cups both absorbed the style of the Western "Laitong" cup and combined the shape of the Chinese totem - the dragon.

At the same time, with the gorgeous decoration of Tang Sancai, this exotic style combining Chinese and Western styles is vividly reflected.

For such a classic thing, Chen Wenzhe couldn't resist making a few.

Of course, Tang Sancai was made, but it was just for viewing. If you really want to pay attention to practicality, it is still a porcelain cup.

After the Tang Dynasty, in the Song Dynasty, the porcelain industry was more developed, and the Longshou Cup in this period was different.

Watching costume movies and TV series, we will see such a picture.

Ordinary people or soldiers who fought in war mostly used bowls for drinking, while nobles or people with a certain status used exquisite wine vessels such as honor, jue, pot, and toast.

For thousands of years, the evolution of wine vessels has also become more and more abundant.

Now in the Xuanhe Ceramics Museum in Yuzhou, Nanhe Province, there is a Song Dynasty Bafanglongshou cup, which is said to be a special drinking vessel for women in the Song Dynasty.

This Song Dynasty Octagonal Dragon Shou Cup has an octagonal mouth, so it is called the Octagonal Dragon Shou Cup.

It has an open mouth, straight walls, retracted abdominal bottom, oblique belly, flat bottom, and a dragon head handle on one side of the belly.

The whole body of the cup is covered with turquoise glaze, and the glaze surface has fine slices, uniform enamel, and fine fetal quality.

Why is it said that the Bafanglongshou cup in the Song Dynasty was not a wine vessel for men?
Because, from the handle of the cup, it is a faucet, and it is small and delicate.

When serving a cup, only a woman's slender fingers are suitable.

It is obviously inappropriate for a man to drink from such a small cup!
It can be seen from this that this kind of wine glass is likely to be a drinking vessel dedicated to women.

During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, people inherited the legacy of the Sui and Tang wine culture.

Both the shape of the wine vessel, the decorative pattern of the wine vessel, and the drinking customs have absorbed the profound cultural heritage of the previous generation.

This Song Dynasty Bafanglongshou cup was collected in Yuzhou a few years ago!
Later, it was confirmed by cultural relics experts that this Song Dynasty Bafanglongshou cup should be a work of Yuzhou folk kiln.

Judging from the shape and characteristics of this Song Dynasty Bafanglongshou cup, the production process is relatively complicated.

In particular, the dragon head is lifelike, and the dragon mouth, dragon beard, dragon head and dragon horns on the small dragon head are very vivid.

At the same time, the dragon head was completed separately, and then glued together with the eight-edged cup body.

In addition, the Bafanglongshou Cup of the Song Dynasty is also considered to be the top grade of the Jun Kiln Bean Green Glaze.

This kind of bean-celadon glazed porcelain from Jun kiln is rare in existence, and its glaze color is similar to that of Longquan kiln in the south, but it is earlier than Longquan kiln in Southern Song Dynasty in terms of age.
