Chapter 1 Famine

Xia Kingdom, Yuzhou City, Shijiazhuang
Hunger is the only feeling when Shi Wei wakes up.

It's okay to travel to a poor peasant girl, but it happened that the weather was dry and the people had no crops, and the imperial court imposed heavy taxes and caused a famine.

She tightened her belt and drank water desperately, trying to fill her stomach.

"Sister, I'm so hungry." Shi Younian said while stroking his shriveled stomach.

When Shi Weiwei looked at his sallow and emaciated younger brother, his heart felt sour.

"Niangui, you wait here for Elder Sister, Elder Sister will come as soon as she goes." Shi Weiwei looked at the fast-flowing river and the broken dustpan beside it, and a bold idea popped into her mind.

"Sister, don't go, that big river will eat people."

"Don't be afraid, Ah Nian, Elder Sister knows how to swim." Shi Weiwei cautiously walked to the big river, found a place where the current was slow, rolled up her trousers and went down.

Shi Weiwei stared at the somewhat turbid river water, hoping that fish and shrimp would rush down from above. She held a broken dustpan to block a river water, bent over and waited quietly.

After a long time, Shi Weiwei's hands and feet were a little numb. She was about to straighten her body for a rest when she saw a big fish being washed down. He reached out and pinched the gills of the fish, and lifted the fish up.

"A Nian, come here." Shi smiled slightly and called out.

Shi Younian hurried over, "Sister, this, this is a big fish." He excitedly looked at the big fish in Shi Weiwei's hand.

Shi Weiwei made a silent gesture to him, then pointed to the haystack not far away, "You go there and wait for me."

Shiyounian nodded and went straight to the haystack.

Shi Weiwei looked at the timing and saw that no one was passing by, so he put the fish into the broken dustpan, covered it with weeds and put it into the haystack.

"Sister, what are we going to do with this fish?" Shi Younian smacked his mouth, swallowed a few mouthfuls of saliva, staring straight at the big fish in Shi Wei Wei's hand.

"Let's take the path to go home, sister will cook fish soup for you." After Shi Xiaoxiao finished speaking, Shi Xiaonian led him to the path.

The two of them walked halfway, when they heard the sound of arguing, Shi Weiwei hastily dragged Shi Xiaonian to hide in the grass.

"Sister, what are they doing?" Shi Younian asked in a low voice.

After observing for a while, Shi Weiwei discovered that they were arguing over food.

Shi Weiwei thought about it, if she brought this big fish home, she would definitely lose it.

She looked at the deep mountain behind her and thought of a plan.

"A Nian, come with me." Shi Weiwei led Shi Younian to the deep mountains, avoiding the people in the village along the way.

Shi Weiwei is glad that she has the memory of the original owner and can avoid them.Otherwise, she would not be able to keep this big fish.

"Sister, don't go in, be careful of big bugs." Shi Younian reminded.

Shi Weiwei looked around, "A Nian, you know how to light a fire, right?"

Shi Younian nodded, "A Nianhui."

"You pick up more firewood, make it as big as possible, and then burn it all." Shi Weiwei picked up a sharp stone and began to handle the big fish.

Due to the dense forest, they were located far away from the village, so the smoke from the fire did not float very high.

When I was young, I set up the firewood, "Sister, the fire is ready."

Shi Weiwei wrapped the simply processed fish with leaves, and then grilled the fish over a charcoal fire.

As the temperature of the carbon fire rises, the umami taste of the fish floats out.

"Sister, this fish smells so good." Shi Younian looked at the fish on the charcoal fire eagerly.

Shi slightly swallowed his saliva, then carefully opened the fish wrapped in leaves.

"A Nian, this is for you." Shi Weiwei gave him the larger half of the fish, and ate the other half by herself.

Shiyounian looked at her, "Sister, I can't eat that much, can I save it for dinner?"

Shi was slightly taken aback, she knew that he was so hungry these days that he was afraid, so after eating this meal, she was thinking about the next meal.

"Eat as much as you can, sister will find you something to eat." Shi smiled and comforted him.

The siblings ate the fish silently. Although the fish had no seasoning, people who had been hungry for a long time could not care about it.

After eating, Shi Weiwei stood up and walked around.

After all, there are many good things in the deep mountains, Shi Weiwei decides to try his luck.
