Chapter 179 The Divine Doctor Hua Tuo
A generation of master Hua Tuo.

Hua Tuo's superb medical skills and his ability to bring the dead back to life can be said to be as famous as Bian Que in the Spring and Autumn Period.

In "Three Kingdoms Wei Shu", "Fang Ji Zhuan" specifically records his medical achievements.Hua Tuo was an outstanding medical scientist and surgeon who integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the early days, but unfortunately he was killed by his fellow villager Cao Cao in the end, which also became a big stain that Cao Cao could not erase.

Hua Tuo's life.

Hua Tuo (145-208 A.D.), Yuanhua, a man (sound fū, husband), a native of Peiguoqiao County (now Bozhou City, Anhui Province), a famous medical scientist in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. The main work "Qing Nang Jing" has been lost, and it is known as "the master of surgery" and "the originator of surgery".

Hua Tuo, Dong Feng, and Zhang Zhongjing are collectively known as the "Three Genius Doctors of Jian'an".When he was young, he traveled abroad to study and practiced medicine in Anhui, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and other places. He worked hard to study medicine without seeking an official career. He has comprehensive medical skills, proficient in internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, acupuncture and moxibustion, and is especially good at surgery. In 208, because of being suspected by Cao Cao, he was imprisoned and tortured to death at the age of 63.

After Hua Tuo's death, later generations built Hua Tuo's tomb in Xuchang, Henan to commemorate him. In 1752, a stone inscription "Han Shenyi Hua Cemetery" was erected. In 1985, the Henan Branch of the All-China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine held the "Hua Tuo Academic Symposium" in Xuchang, and engraved a stone tablet "The Tomb of Hua Tuo, an outstanding medical scientist in the Eastern Han Dynasty".There is Hua Tuo Tomb in Shenqiu County, Zhoukou City, Henan Province, where it is said that Hua Tuo was buried. In 2003, Shenqiu County changed the name of the road in front of the tomb to Huatuo Road.

The genius doctor's medical skills are astonishing.

A prophet who predicts the disease or predicts the future.

Because Hua Tuo practiced medicine all the year round, he was exposed to many difficult and miscellaneous diseases, so he developed a pair of piercing eyes, which could miraculously and accurately predict the development of the patient's condition.

Hua Tuo once treated Guangling prefect Chen Deng, who was Chen Deng and Chen Yuanlong who put Lu Bu to death in "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms".At that time, Chen Deng's face was red and he was irritable. Hua Tuo asked him to prepare more than a dozen washbasins, and then prescribed medicine for him.As a result, Chen Deng spit out dozens of pots of red-headed worms, and Hua Tuo said that Chen Deng caused the disease by eating fish.He also told him: "This disease will recur after three years, and you can only be cured if you meet a good doctor." Three years later, it really happened again, because Hua Tuo could not be found, Chen Deng died at the age of 39.From the current medical point of view, Chen Deng may have tapeworm disease.Another patient, Xu, was bedridden due to illness, and Hua Tuo went to visit him.Xu said: "Since I asked a doctor to prick my gastric tube yesterday, I have been coughing continuously, upset and unable to lie down."

After Hua Tuo made the diagnosis, he said: "This is a misdiagnosis. The acupuncture did not reach the stomach tube, but hit the liver by mistake. The diet will gradually decrease in the future, and something unexpected will happen in five days." Later, he died as Hua Tuo said. There are many such examples, and here are just two of them.

A master of early anesthesia.Hua Tuo's greatest contribution to Chinese medicine is the invention and development of the earliest anesthetic drug in China - Mafeisan. He visited many doctors, collected some anesthetic drugs, and developed different formulas for many times, and finally succeeded in trial production. He prepared anesthesia and hot wine, and the patient lost consciousness after taking it. Then he cut open the abdominal cavity, cut out the ulcer, washed the rot, sutured it with mulberry suture, and applied divine ointment. The pain was relieved in four or five days, and he recovered within one month.Hua Tuo named the drug he developed "Mabo".According to the textual research of Japanese surgeon Huagang Qingzhou, the composition of Mafeisan has many ingredients such as datura flower, raw grass aconitum, whole angelica, fragrant angelica, chuanxiong, and fried southern star. "Mafeisan" is the earliest anesthetic in the history of the world.Hua Tuo used "Mabosan" with wine to perform abdominal surgery. This kind of general anesthesia operation is unprecedented in the history of Chinese medicine, and it is also a rare pioneering work in the history of world medicine.

A pioneer in surgery.Because of "Mafeisan", surgery is possible.Hua Tuo was the first to use general anesthesia to perform surgical operations, and was honored as "the originator of surgery" by later generations. At that time, Hua Tuo was able to perform surgical operations such as tumor removal and gastrointestinal suture. His surgical operations have been admired throughout the ages.Chen Jiamo's "Materia Medica Mengqian" in the Ming Dynasty quoted "Illustrations of Famous Doctors of Past Dynasties" to make a summary: "Wei had Hua Tuo, who set up a sore department, deboning and treating diseases, and had many magical effects." In "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Hua Tuo scraped Guan Yu Narrative of bone healing poison. It is said that during the Battle of Xiangyang, Guan Yu's right arm was hit by the poisonous arrows of the Wei army. Hua Tuo dissected Guan Yu's arm and scraped the bone to remove the poison from the bone. Guan Yu's expression remained unchanged, and he played chess with others during the operation. On the one hand, this story praised Guan Yu's bravery and strength, and on the other hand, it also explained Hua Tuo's superb medical skills, which won people's praise and admiration. This is actually a fictional story widely circulated among the people based on facts.Although Guan Yu had bone scraping to heal his wounds, Hua Tuo had died more than ten years ago during the Xiangfan Battle.

An active explorer of sports regimen.Hua Tuo was also one of the founders of ancient Chinese medical sports. He is not only good at curing diseases, but also especially advocates the way of health preservation. He once said to his disciple Wu Pu: "The human body wants to be labored, but it should not be used to shake the ear. If it is shaken, the vulgarity will be eliminated, the blood will flow, the disease will not be born, and the door will be immortal." Hua Tuo inherited and developed the predecessors "the sage is dead Based on the preventive theory of treating the disease before the disease, a set of aerobics that imitates the gestures of the five animals—ape, deer, bear, tiger, and bird——"Five Animals" has been arranged for the elderly and infirm. His disciple Wu Pu insisted on exercising in this way. When he lived to be more than 90 years old, his hearing and eyesight were good, and his teeth were intact and firm.As the saying goes, if you want to be healthy, you must keep your mouth shut and keep your legs open. Exercise and health preservation are especially important, and it is still the case until now.
