The second algorithm is more discrete and nonlinear.
Although oracle bone script is already very mature, it has been popular for a very long time and there is no fixed structure when forming characters. Therefore, there are often dozens of ways to write a character.
For example, "bu" is actually a radical of left foot and right foot. There are many ways to write these two radicals, some complex and some simple. After these two radicals were carved on oracle bones by the diviners and combined into the character "bu", their positional and angular relationships were varied.
For trained humans, as long as these two roots are carved roughly the same, the concept will naturally emerge in their minds: this is the left foot, and this is the right foot.
Then, as long as the two roots are placed together and roughly staggered up and down, another concept will naturally pop up in the mind: Well, this is most likely the word "step". However, such thinking activities are too "advanced" for current computer technology, because current computer technology is still mainly processing linear logic operations, and it is difficult to handle such complex nonlinear relationships where one input has multiple outputs, or multiple outputs together lead to one input.
The subject that Mai Xiaomiao studies is used to solve this problem.
In a broader sense, this is the direction of artificial intelligence. In a narrower sense, this is a preliminary attempt to allow computers to solve nonlinear problems.
Of course, mathematical theories and tools alone are useless in solving practical problems. If you want to integrate such a complex project as oracle bone inscriptions, it is absolutely impossible without understanding how the project is currently operated.
