Chapter 48
Looking at the scenery along the way, Fury realized something was wrong. This was not the way to the manor that day, but the way to the airport!
Are you leaving DC?
Soon Fury knew the answer. The car drove directly into a hangar at the airport, where a Gulfstream plane was parked. Ms. Paige was talking to someone, and Fury recognized the person. His boss: Alexander Pierce.

"You're here, Fury, let's talk on the way."

Ms. Paige saw Fury get out of the car, stopped talking with Pierce, and then boarded the plane first.

"Good job, Fury."

Pierce still admired Fury very much. When in Bogota, Fury rescued the hostages who were held hostage, and Pierce's daughter happened to be among them.Pierce also saw his ability because of this.

With this relationship, Pierce tried his best to transfer Fury back to California, but he felt that this was far from enough. Pulling Fury into Hydra was the best reward for him!

At least, Pierce thinks so.In his opinion, joining Hydra is the right choice. You can get two salaries, high benefits and a strong leader.

You mean S.H.I.E.L.D.?What kind of thing is that, [-]% of the people in it are Hydra people.Tell me, who is superior and who is inferior, isn't it obvious at a glance?
Or join Hydra to have a bright future!

If he knew that his boss was ready to break away from Hydra and form a new organization at any time, Pierce would not think so.

After boarding the plane with Pierce, the doors closed immediately and the plane began taxiing.

"Did Ms. Paige tell you what happened this time?"

"No."

Fury was very honest this time, because he was also very curious about what happened, wouldn't it be Altair who activated those brainwashed?

"There was an anomaly in a small town in Maine, and an inspector was missing." Peggy explained for Fury, who didn't know the situation.

"Isn't it normal for the inspector to go missing? Maybe he was killed by some animal in such a remote place. Didn't the unlucky one get attacked by a bear last time?"

Pierce actually already knew the truth of the matter, but he couldn't say that he wanted to play a good role as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

"No, at this juncture, the disappearance of the inspector is likely to involve a lot."

"A critical point?" Pierce keenly captured this detail, "Did something happen? Did you hide something from me?"

There was no doubt seeing Fury here, and Pierce knew that Peggy had told Fury about it.This made him feel bad, why did Peggy bypass him and tell Fury, did he expose something?

Receiving Ms. Peggy's gaze, Fury told Pierce about Altair.

"What? Altair is still alive? Why didn't you tell me such a big thing?"

Pierce complained to Peggy.

"Aren't you afraid that you will tell the president. It's all right, you take a break, and then we will depend on you. You are old and useless."

Peggy sighed, she really didn't know that she could still fight Hydra for a few more years, and hoped to get rid of all the hidden dangers left by Altair and him before she couldn't work at all!

……

"Get up, Fury."

Pierce wakes Fury up.

"Reached?"

"Prepare to land."

After waking Fury up, Pierce walked back to finish what little coffee he had left.

Fury wanted a drink too, to clear his befuddled head, but the plane landed, so he had to give up and wait until he got off the plane to figure out what to do.

Just now Fury fell into a dreamless deep sleep, which he had rarely slept since he joined the army.Otherwise, as soon as Pierce gets close to him, he will wake up from his sleep, and then deal with him neatly.

It must be because I woke up in the middle of the night last night.

"By the way, if I were you, I would wear that seat belt. Although it's useless, it's always a good thing to pay attention to." Pierce reminded kindly.

Fury looked out the window, it was already morning, and the sun had just risen from the horizon, reflecting a golden light on the horizon.

The plane landed smoothly, and when the plane left the runway, a Cadillac parked beside the plane. Needless to say, Fury knew that it was here to pick them up.

Before getting off the plane, Ms. Page offered Fury and Pierce each a cup of coffee, and Fury smiled back.

Fury and others got into the car, and Peggy explained to him: "We are still about two hours away from that town."

……

Two hours later, their car came to a two-lane road with a track next to it, just as a freight train was moving slowly at 30 miles per hour.

Noticing that Fury was observing the train, Pierce told him that it was a train dedicated to transporting supplies to that town, but its terminal was not in the town, but a little before the town.

Arriving at the terminus of the train, Fury stopped. The train hadn't arrived yet, and they were left far behind.

Fury got out of the car only to find that the two lanes had come to an end, and the next one was the kind of dirt road that can be seen everywhere in the countryside.

Several soldiers came over and asked for their identities. After seeing the documents provided by Ms. Paige, they let them go.

Ms. Paige stopped Fury. "Furry, I'll leave it to you. Pierce and I won't go in. If there's anything unusual, set off a flare, and we'll go in and help you."

Another group of staff arrived, and they handed Fury a carry-on suitcase containing some clothing and a gun, along with some personal items that a drifter would use.

"Just me?"

Fury asked with some surprise, he remembered his nightmare again, this can really happen in this small town!
"If I hadn't retired to the front line for many years, I would have accompanied you in."

Pierce patted her shoulder reassuringly.

After explaining his identity information, precautions for entering the town, and tasks to be completed, Ms. Peggy and Pierce watched him enter the town with Fury's resentful expression on his face.

……

At the same time that Fury entered the town, Altair, who was on the plane to England, received a message that it was Fury's presence in the town, and it was obvious that he had people in the town.

Very good, it seems that his subordinates are still very strong in execution.Altair thought about it carefully, and after confirming that no one was missed, he was relieved.

The energy of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been completely attracted to those few small towns, and the next trip to the UK will be a peace of mind.
