Chapter 749
After the main force of the Eighth Route Army went to the anti-Japanese front line, since the Party Central Committee remained in northern Shaanxi, it was necessary to leave a small number of troops to defend the Party Central Committee and consolidate the development of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base.

Later, the Military Commission decided that the Artillery Battalion and Radiant Battalion of the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army, the 120th Regiment of the 359th Brigade of the 718th Division, the Secret Service Battalion, the Engineer Battalion, the Artillery Battalion, the Auxiliary Heavy Battalion, the 129th Brigade Headquarters of the 358th Division and the 770th Brigade The Regiment, Secret Service Battalion, Engineer Battalion, Artillery Battalion, and Radiant Heavy Battalion, a total of more than 9000 people stayed in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region as a unified command.

In the follow-up, the remaining troops were reorganized. Except for the 358th Brigade Headquarters and the 770th Regiment, they were reorganized into 8 regiments and one battalion, respectively:

The Auxiliary Heavy Battalion and Artillery Battalion of the 120th Division were reorganized into the 1st Guard Regiment.

The Special Service Battalion and the Artillery Battalion of the 129th Division were reorganized into the 2nd and 3rd Guard Regiments respectively.

The heavy battalion and artillery battalion of the 115th Division were reorganized into the 4th Guard Regiment.

The Special Service Battalion and Engineer Battalion of the 120th Division were reorganized into the 5th and 6th Guard Regiments respectively.

The 129th Division Engineer Battalion was reorganized into the 7th Guard Regiment.

The 718th Regiment was reorganized into the 8th Guard Regiment.

The 129th Division Auxiliary Heavy Battalion was reorganized into Lang (now Fu County) Gan (Quan) Independent Battalion.

In December 1937, the Central Military Commission renamed the Left-behind Office as the Left-behind Corps.

In July 1939, the Artillery Corps of the Central Military Commission was transferred to the left-behind Corps and later reorganized into the Special Service Corps.

In August, the Guanzhong Garrison Command was established. In October, the 8th Brigade led the 10th and 359th Regiments (renamed Pingshan Independent Regiment) from the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region to the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region to take over the defense of the Suide Garrison Region.

Based on the Suide Garrison Command, the 1st Garrison Brigade was established, under the jurisdiction of the 3rd and 8th Garrison Regiments, stationed in the Guanzhong area.

In April, the 4th Regiment of the 359th Brigade, the Yanbei Detachment, and the 719th Detachment arrived in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region from Northwest Shanxi.

By the end of 1941, there were 3 brigades, 20 regiments and several independent battalions under the Remaining Corps, with a total strength of more than 3.1 troops.

Today, the entire left-behind corps roughly belongs to the five military divisions Yanju, Suide, Sanbian, Longdong, and Guanzhong.

In November 1937, after the Japanese army ended its large-scale use of troops in North China, it dispatched troops to Fenglingdu, the key point of the Yellow River, in an attempt to cross the Yellow River west to occupy the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia border area and attack the Northwest.

Facing the tense situation of the Yellow River defense line, the Eighth Route Army's left-behind corps divided the Yellow River defense into three sections according to the instructions of its superiors, and established two Yan (Yanchuan, Yanchang), five counties (Suide, Jiaxian, Mizhi, Qingjian, Wubao), Shen (Mu) Fu (Valley) River Defense Command", and according to the development of the situation, the river defense forces were adjusted in a timely manner.

"Chief, Ganquan is ahead, and Yanzhou is a hundred miles to the north!" The comrade in charge introduced.

Zhou Weihan and others entered the base area in Lang County, and then they arrived at Ganquan under the escort of the Third Independent Security Battalion.

"How is it? It's the first time I've come here. The scenery in the Shan-Gan-Ning base area is very different from the Taihang base area, right?" the brigade commander laughed.

"Brigade Commander, this is not the first time for me to come here. Don't forget, I am a graduate of the fourth period of the Anti-Japanese University!"

"The Taihang base area is surrounded by mountains. In contrast, northern Shaanxi is a loess plateau with vast land, sparsely populated, and barren land. It is not easy to support the entire border area!" Zhou Weihan said with emotion.

"Hey, I forgot that both you and Zhao Gang graduated from the fourth term of the Anti-Japanese University!" The brigade commander slapped his forehead.

It didn't take long for the crowd to arrive at Ganquan, and the Communist Party member and brigade chief of the Guanzhong Garrison District at that time came out to greet them.

Brigadier Wen joined the Red Army in 1930. During the Red Army's second attack on Changsha, he actively signed up to join the Death Squad.

曾任红3军团第8军第3师第10团副团长,第11团团长,中央军委教导师第1团团长,率部参加了中央苏区第一至第五次反“围剿”作战和长征。

After arriving in northern Shaanxi, he served as the head of the 1th Regiment of the 4th Division of the Red 12st Army, led his troops to participate in the Eastern Expedition, and later served as the commander of the 81st Division of the Red First Army.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the head and political commissar of the 120th Regiment of the 359th Brigade of the 718th Division of the Eighth Route Army, and the head of the 8th Guard Regiment.

After returning to Yan'an, he served as the deputy commander of the Suide Garrison District and the head of the 8th Garrison Regiment, the commander of the First Guard Brigade and the commander of the Guanzhong Garrison District.

Although Zhou Weihan had studied at the Anti-Japanese University, how could he be more familiar with Yanzhou than the brigade commander?
On the way here, the brigade commander took the initiative to introduce the situation in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia base area to Zhou Weihan, and the brigade commander of the first security brigade was also included.

"You guys came here so fast, have you arrived at the base in just a few days?" asked the brigade chief.

"Hey, we are auspicious people with God's help. We took a ride with his Hu Zongnan's wife along the way!" The brigade commander laughed.

"Let me introduce, this is Comrade Zhou Weihan, this is Comrade Wen**!"

After hearing this, the brigade chief was very excited, and grabbed Zhou Weihan's palm: "I've heard of Comrade Zhou Weihan's name for a long time, and I've wanted to meet for a long time, but it's a pity that I didn't have the chance until today!"

"Comrade Weihan, on behalf of the comrades in the Guanzhong Garrison District, I would like to thank you for your strong support. Right now, we only have the Third Guard Regiment, the Eighth Regiment, and one local security regiment. The strength is really not enough!"

"In the past year, the national army has continued to create friction in the border area, and even attacked our garrison at one point. Guanzhong and Longdong are areas where friction incidents frequently occur. At the end of April, we just fought a battle with the national army. The two sides have mutual relations. loss!"

"That's why I applied to my superiors if I could transfer a unit from the front line back to the base area. Who would have thought that a regiment would be transferred back from the Tainan Military Region!"

The Guanzhong Garrison Area is the southern gate of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Base Area. From the geographical point of view, it is a sharp knife piercing the enemy's heart.

From Yanzhou to Guanzhong, you have to pass through a narrow area tens of miles long in Huangling and Diantou. The soldiers and civilians in the base area call it "Gourd Handle", and the Guanzhong area is called "Bao Hulu".

The Kuomintang diehards have long coveted this "treasure gourd" in my base area, always wanting to eat it first and then occupy the entire border area.

Therefore, during the entire period of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang diehards did not stop for a moment in their armed and unarmed sabotage activities in the Guanzhong area.

After hearing this, Zhou Weihan understood why the brigade chief Wen was so enthusiastic: "Brigade chief Wen is polite, obey the orders of the superiors, and defend Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia according to geography!"

The Fifth Regiment is now on its way to Yanzhou. According to the order of the Remaining Corps, the Fifth Regiment arrived at the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Base Area and was incorporated into the Guanzhong Guard.

The area around Lang County is located at the northern end of the Guanzhong Security Area. Compared with Xunyi and Chunhua in the south, the fighting environment is more stable.
