Jian Zhen brought Li Daoyuan to the back hall, and Jian Zhen said to Li Daoyuan:
"The poor monk is willing to return to the Tang Dynasty to be punished, and he only asks that the disciples of the poor monk be spared."

Jianzhen's attitude is sincere. For his age, the few trips to the East are just dancing behind the gates of hell, and he doesn't care about life or death.

Li Daoyuan looked at the old monk and said, "I didn't come to Fusang to escort the old monk back to question the crime. If the old monk can return to the Tang Dynasty in the future, he can ask the Jiedu envoy for his guilt."

Jianzhen looked at Li Daoyuan suspiciously: "Isn't the envoy here to arrest the poor monk?"

Li Daoyuan said with a smile: "Nowadays the court has opened the sea ban, the old monk came to Fusang is your own business, what's the crime?"

Jian Zhen was shocked and said, "Has the court lifted the sea ban?"

Li Daoyuan said: "Yes, now in Yangzhou Port, there are boats from all over the world competing, and the sea trade is developed. The imperial court has canceled the sea ban, allowing coastal areas to do business with foreign merchants, and the common people are not prohibited from going to sea."

Jianzhen's eyes were almost filled with tears. In order to go to Fusang, Jianzhen crossed the sea seven times, all afraid of being hunted down by the court.

He failed to cross the sea several times, and was almost accused by the government.

Unexpectedly, Datang no longer banned the sea.

Li Daoyuan couldn't help but said: "Doesn't Fusang himself have Buddhism?"

Then the Nara era of Fusang's stability was gone forever, and the Japanese king soon lost his real power and entered the Heian era when the ministers controlled the king's government.

Jianzhen asked again, "What about the civil strife in Hedong?"

When Li Daoyuan was in Yangzhou, he heard that every time Jianzhen taught the Fa, the city of Yangzhou was empty, and the gate of Daming Temple was crowded with people waiting for his lecture.

Such a monk wants to go east to Fusang. This enthusiasm for preaching is indeed worthy of the pioneering atmosphere of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

With this set of things, the entire Fusang Buddhism naturally respects him very much, because for well-known reasons, offering sacrifices to the dead is a good business.

Before Jianzhen's Eastern Capital, the Anshi Rebellion hadn't started yet, but news came from the seaside a few days ago that An Lushan rebelled.

Jianzhen recited the Buddha's name again and said: "The poor monk once made a great promise to teach the Dharma in Fusang."

What is the law of the ages! This is called the law of all ages!

Jianzhen is tantamount to monopolizing Buddhism's right to explain after death, which is why there is such a strange scene in modern Fusang, that is, no matter what beliefs were in life, the funeral must be held by monks.

The disciples looked at Jianzhen in surprise, but Jianzhen ordered a few disciples who often went to Fusang's house to explain Buddhism and knew the domestic situation in Fusang, and asked them to return to the vulgar immediately and follow Li Daoyuan to do things.

Li Daoyuan looked at the old monk, and couldn't help asking: "Old monk, why are you not in the Tang Dynasty, and you want to travel across the ocean to Fusang?"

After Jianzhen arrived in Fusang, he described a detailed and lifelike afterlife world, and gave a set of rituals for the dead.

Words are cherished like gold in history books. How Jianzhen convinced Fusang monks and lay people is definitely not that simple. It can't really be that foreign monks can recite scriptures.

Jian Zhen looked at Li Daoyuan, and said after a long time: "It turns out that the envoy came to Fusang, not for trade."

It was also from this time that Todaiji Temple became the sacred place in the hearts of all Fuso Buddhist sects, because this certification is valuable!
Li Daoyuan really admired the great monk in front of him. Sure enough, none of the people who can leave their names in the history books is simple.

Li Daoyuan remembered a question on the forum again, and said to Jianzhen:

Jian Zhen was stunned for a moment and said, "I'm afraid there will be trouble in the royal court of Fusang."

You must know that the master of ceremonies who manage weddings and weddings in later generations is one of the most profitable industries.

Li Daoyuan's opinion of Jianzhen was much higher again. In history, this king of Wa did have a conflict with King Xiaoqian. The last king of Wa was exiled, and King Xiaoqian of Wa was restored again.

"However, in order to resume trade with the Tang Dynasty, powerful public officials and nobles must be involved. I will write a list for the envoy, and they are all families capable of engaging in maritime trade."

Jianzhen can see the hidden dangers from the current political situation of the Wa Kingdom, and he deserves to be a great monk who can leave his name in history.

Li Daoyuan immediately showed a satisfied smile, and he continued: "However, it is not the best way to have one family alone. Does the old monk have a list of other families that can engage in maritime trade?"

Jianzhen put his palms together and sang a Buddhist name.

But in this era, Li Daoyuan realized how important a few words in history books are.

Jianzhen nodded and said: "There are many Fusang gods and Taoists, but none of them talk about what happens after death. The poor monk debated with other Taoists in Dongdai Temple, talking about things after death, and all the Taoists couldn't speak. The method of offering sacrifices after the death of Fusang Li, all Fusang monks are ordered by my monk."

Li Daoyuan didn't understand the factional disputes within Buddhism, but seeing Jianzhen's devout faith, this is rare in later generations.

Jianzhen heard Li Daoyuan's meaning at once, and he said immediately:
"If this is the case, then it is better to support King Chunren Wa. King Chunren Wa and Minister Fujiwara Taisho have always admired Datang. If we want to resume trade, we need to rely on them."

"It's true. Fusang regards ghosts as gods, and it claims to have thousands of shrines. Besides Buddhism, there are also Shinto beliefs. The poor monk did encounter many difficulties when he first came to Fusang."

At that time, the royal court in Fusang discussed whether to support the Tang court. Jianzhen also felt a little concerned when he heard about the civil strife in his hometown.

"The king of Shang reclusively does not retreat, the king of Japan has ambitions but is powerless, the land is sparse and the people are poor, and there are many princes. Fusang is a sign of chaos."

"Old monk, there are many sects of Fusang sects. Not only are the Buddhist sects mixed, but there are also many who don't believe in Buddhism. How do you teach the Dharma?"

Li Daoyuan got the list, took "Sangluan Tie" with him, and left Todaiji Temple satisfied.

Only then did the disciples feel relieved.

Li Daoyuan said: "Whether it is worth it or not, I don't need to worry about the old monk. It is true that there is no danger of crossing the sea, and the court will not spend too much energy in Dongpu."

At this time, Jianzhen appointed a monk in Todaiji Temple, which is equivalent to issuing a license to practice funeral emcee.

“How come you see?”

But Jianzhen sighed and said, "But Fusang is going to be messed up."

Jianzhen said with a smile, "There is no one else, but the death sacrifice."

Jianzhen heard Li Daoyuan's real intention at once, and he asked back in doubt.

We must know that the Anshi Rebellion, which consumed countless manpower and material resources of the Tang court and killed and injured tens of millions of people, has only a few paragraphs in the history books.

Li Daoyuan said: "Now the chaos in An has been calmed down, and the world is stable now."

Jian Zhen was stunned for a moment and said: "The poor monk will add a few more families, those are the big families that are loyal to King Xiaoqian."

"Death sacrifice?"

Li Daoyuan looked at Jianzhen curiously. According to history books, Jianzhen immediately convinced the monks and people in Fusang when he arrived in Fusang.

Jianzhen himself was almost blind. One must know that he was the most famous monk in the whole of Jiangnan in the Daming Temple. With the atmosphere of worshiping Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, Jianzhen can come and go with the famous families of the Tang Dynasty, and his social status is not at all. Not low.

Jianzhen traveled eastward to Fusang several times, and in this era it was almost a ghost gate. Several of his important disciples died during the eastward journey.

Seeing that Li Daoyuan still didn't understand, after Jianzhen made Fusang his eastern capital, he talked about the reform of Buddhism, and now Li Daoyuan finally realized it.

"Besides, Fusang has few lands and many mountains. The poor monk doesn't understand why Jiedushi chose this place."

Jianzhen said again: "Fusang monks use the name of Buddha to do utilitarian things. I came to Fusang to rectify the source and spread the true Dharma."

Only through his identification can there be an officially certified "master of ceremonies" who has the ability to communicate with the deceased and manage the funeral, and can receive the funeral work.

Li Daoyuan continued to ask: "In this case, why did the old monk teach me?"

To put it simply, Fusang's original beliefs are simple, and many Shinto beliefs and local Buddhism have a weak explanation for the afterlife.

"However, although Fusang is considered to be a descendant of Xu Fu in my Tang Dynasty, Fusang lives overseas, and fighting across the sea is dangerous. It is not as easy to conquer as Goguryeo."

Jianzhen said:

"Amitabha."

No matter how ups and downs Fusang's Buddhism is, if it monopolizes the business of funerals forever, its social status will not be too low.

Li Daoyuan looked at Jianzhen and said, "Actually, the Jiedu envoy sent me to Fusang this time to do business in Fusang. I don't know what the old monk wants to teach me?"

Jianzhen immediately summoned his close disciples, and seeing his anxious eyes, Jianzhen said:
"Emissary Tang didn't come to arrest me and bring me back to Datang, don't worry, everyone."

The disciples were quite puzzled, but Jianzhen didn't explain, just let them listen.

In mid-October, the King of Wa received Li Daoyuan with a national ceremony. Li Daoyuan told the court of the King of Wa that the Tang Dynasty had quelled the Anshi Rebellion, and he also asked for comprehensive trade with the Wa Kingdom.

The Japanese king naturally accepted it happily, and Li Daoyuan proposed several big families, indicating that the merchant ships of the Tang Dynasty traded with these few families.

The King of Japan could only accept Li Daoyuan's list in its entirety, and at the same time proposed to send envoys to the Tang Dynasty to meet the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty.

Li Daoyuan naturally agreed, and he stayed in Nara for another two days, but there was really nothing to see in Wa Kingdom, so he urged Wa Kingdom to send a mission to Tang.
