Master Archaeologist

Chapter 140 Another Journey Ends

Chapter 140 Another Journey Ends

Forget about digging the Mausoleum of Qin Shihuang.

There is no way to find out the reason for Zeng Guo's demise for the time being.

From winter to almost summer.

It took half a year for the Wenfeng Pagoda, Yejia Mountain, and Zaoshulin to be excavated.

There are nearly [-] tombs of Zeng State spanning from the early Western Zhou Dynasty to the middle Warring States period, which greatly enriched modern China's understanding of this ancient Western Zhou Dynasty.

In addition, the three major tomb groups add up, and there are more than ten or twenty tombs from the middle period of the Warring States period, and even later Han, Tang, Song, and Ming dynasties.

All cleaned up and backfilled.

In the Wenfeng Pagoda cemetery alone, more than [-] cultural relics were unearthed.

Together, the three major tomb groups have unearthed nearly [-] cultural relics.

Most of these cultural relics belonged to Zeng Guo, and a small part belonged to the later era, which greatly enriched the collection of the local museum in Suizhou.

And this city named "Sui" was finally able to rely on the cultural relics unearthed underground to truly possess and trace the origin of an ancient country.

With the end of the excavation, the Suizhou Museum has also entered the stage of renovation.

The newly prepared "Zeng (Sui) Country Exhibition Hall" is also being prepared urgently.

Even the Suizhou Museum plans to use the cultural relics unearthed from the three major tomb groups to hold a nationwide touring exhibition, starting with the Capital Museum, and plans to hold a touring exhibition in at least six places across the country within two years.

Of course, the Suizhou Museum has not escaped "borrowing cultural relics".

At the National Expo, after learning that the bronze spear proving that Zeng Sui belonged to a country had been unearthed, and the chime bells recording the battle between Wu and Chu, Prince Wu's halberd, he immediately rushed to Suizhou smelling the smell.

I plan to bring these cultural relics to the National Museum of Art for a "Mu Mu Zenghou--Special Exhibition of Bronze Wares Unearthed in Zeng State"!
As for whether these cultural relics will be returned after the exhibition is over, I don't know.

But Chen Han thinks he should pay it back.

Although these bronzes unearthed from Zeng State are very important for proving the existence of Zeng State and tracing the history of Zeng State.

But Zeng Guo made it clear that it was a small vassal state in the Eastern and Western Zhou Dynasties, and it was not the protagonist of that era.

To be honest, the National Expo should be looked down upon.

At the very least, it must be a cultural relic of the level of Zeng Houyi's chime bells, so that the National Museum can be tempted.

The chime bell of Marquis Yi of Zeng was also unearthed in Suizhou.

But it did not fall into the hands of Suizhou Museum.

It was the Hubei Museum and the National Museum of Art who were fighting for this cultural relic. The two sides fought for a long time. In the end, the Hubei Museum won the Chime Bell of Marquis Yi of Zeng because of its geographical advantages.

As for the unearthed local Suizhou Museum, there is no right to compete at all.

On the contrary, this batch of Zeng Guo's bronze wares, chariot and horse wares, and jade wares can be kept in the Suizhou Museum, greatly increasing the attraction of the Suizhou Museum.

In a prefecture-level city, bronzes are rarely seen in collections.

Especially in those provinces and cities that were still in the "wild land" during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, not many bronze wares were unearthed.

For example, in Fujian, Chen Han’s hometown, in many museums in the city, there are only some collections from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, at most dating back to the Tang and Song Dynasties.

Artifacts such as chime bells, tripods, and gui are simply impossible to appear.

Now Suizhou, a small city in Hubei, can have such a systematic exhibition of bronze ritual vessels ranging from scholars to officials to monarchs.

Couldn't be more satisfied.

The archaeological team of the Suizhou Museum who participated in the excavation of the Yejiashan cemetery, from the beginning to the end of the excavation, never saw a smile on their face.

Everyone said: "Thank you for your contribution to Suizhou archaeology!"

That's a joy.

2019 6 Month 26 Day.

Wenfeng Pagoda Cemetery.

The original potholes and pits of different sizes have been backfilled one after another.

The real estate developer, which had been shut down for half a year, was finally able to resume work, commanding the construction team and construction vehicles, and carrying out foundation leveling work.

Set up in the mobile board room next to the construction site.

The staff of the Institute of Archaeology, Academy of Social Sciences, are also busy packing their luggage and preparing to leave here.

The past six months have been a bumper harvest for everyone.

There are really too many burials.

There are 66 tombs, on average, there are more than two tombs for each person.

Taking a tomb as a paper, at least two papers can be produced.

Not to mention that there are many unearthed cultural relics from the tombs that are enough to open a paper alone.

For example, based on the unearthed chariots and horses, talk about the difference between Zeng Guo's chariots and the chariots of the Central Plains princes.

According to the unearthed pottery, briefly talk about the pottery making style of Zeng Guo.

According to the social status of the owner of the tomb and the funerary objects, talk about Zeng Guo's etiquette system and social productivity.

Chen Han, who was trained by Kong Jianwen, also wrote three important papers.

These three papers respectively take [Zeng Guo's first seal] [Zeng Guo's Spring and Autumn Period from left to right civil and military to left and right Chu Wang's changes] [Zeng Guo's surrender and loneliness] as the themes of the papers.

I roughly sorted out the history of this vassal state surnamed Ji in the Western Zhou Dynasty that has been enshrined for 700 years. At present, the history revealed by archaeological evidence can be examined.

Say without hesitation.

These three papers, once published, will become the papers that future scholars must read when they study "Zeng Guo"!

I dare not say that the history of the Zeng Kingdom found from an archaeological point of view is 100% correct, but the chance of making mistakes is definitely smaller than written records!

From Kong Jianwen's point of view, Chen Han's three theses are completely enough for a doctoral degree.

Take out a thesis directly from it for a doctoral defense, and you can pass it.

However, Kong Jianwen did not give Chen Han the idea of graduating in advance.

He just got his Ph.D. this year. Fortunately, he encountered the excavation of the large tomb group of Zeng Guo. This gave him the opportunity to study this unpopular topic with few achievements in the field of historical documents and archaeology.

Although the level of several papers can reach the standard of a doctoral dissertation.

But his study has not kept up.

Not to mention anything else, Chen Han hasn't even taken the theoretical knowledge courses specially set up by the Academy of Social Sciences for graduate students and doctoral students.

Field archeology is an empirical science.

Unlike physics, mathematics and other subjects, some super smart academics, as long as they are smart enough, can finish their Ph.D. in one or two years, solve physics and mathematics problems one by one, and reach the top in one step.

But the so-called theoretical knowledge courses in archaeology are actually passing on the experience of predecessors in field archaeology to newcomers.

This is something that must be learned, and it is impossible for someone to know it before learning it.

Even if the family has ancestral tomb-robbing skills, that won't work.

It’s like studying medicine. No matter how good your graduation thesis is, you won’t be able to graduate if you haven’t finished the course content, and your theoretical and practical knowledge hasn’t reached a certain level!
So after the excavation project of Wenfeng Pagoda is over, the first thing Chen Han has to do when he returns to the capital is to return to the campus and go to class!
It takes at least two years of courses, and then Kong Jianwen will prepare him for his graduation defense.

Of course, if there is a new discovery project during the class, Chen Han still has to run around with the instructor.

This study, there is still more to go!

After careful study, I decided that the next tomb is going to be about the tomb of the King of Nanyue.

This is the largest, most abundant unearthed cultural relics, and the earliest painted stone chamber tomb discovered in the Lingnan area. It is one of the major discoveries in the archaeology of the Han Dynasty in China.

It is still very important, and there are indeed a lot of cultural relics, each of which has a special meaning and color.
