Chapter 23 Disciple Enlightened

Chapter 23 Disciple Enlightened
The annual Lingyin Temple Discussion Conference can be regarded as a grand Buddhist event.

This tradition has to start with Master Sanzang.

It is rumored that Master Sanzang participated in a water and land Dharma meeting in Chang'an before learning the scriptures. During the Dharma meeting, Dharma Master Sanzang debated the scriptures with monks and Taoists all over the world, and all the great masters were speechless.

The profundity of his Dharma and the piety of his beliefs are admired by everyone.

Because of this, Master Sanzang was enlightened by the Bodhisattva and became a sutra learner. After going through ninety-nine and eighty-one hardships, Master Sanzang obtained Mahayana Buddhism from the West, and with this merit he became the Buddha of Zhantan Gongde.

Since then, Buddhism has flourished.

Similar Dharma conferences are held one after another. Every big city holds Dharma conferences with various themes every month. There are more and more people in the world who talk about Buddhism and Dao. Even an official must understand Dharma.

However, Mahayana Buddhism failed to make the Tang Dynasty last forever, and instead reached a situation where ordinary people could not afford to eat.

Then, the flames of war broke out everywhere, and there were anti-kings everywhere in the world.

In the end, the Chai family won the world, and the salary king Chai Xijiao became the founding emperor of the Great Zhou Dynasty.

At the moment Chang'an City was breached, the last Emperor of Tang asked the people around him, "Who has this Mahayana Buddhism helped?"

No one could answer the question, and the emperor's head was soon hung in front of his favorite Buddha statue.

The salary king, Chai Xihui, was well aware of the dangers of Buddhism. After he took the throne firmly, he began to suppress Buddhism and Taoism, almost killing the two religions.

At this time, the real Qiansu entered Chang'an face saint alone, and finally persuaded King Xin to give up his extreme thoughts, and became the current national teacher.

Although Master Qiansu is a Taoist priest, he does not suppress Buddhism, but treats it equally, which makes all Buddhist disciples in the world grateful.

Now that King Xin has been in power for dozens of years, Buddhism has gradually recovered its prosperity. Although it does not have the aura of believers everywhere, the Dharma Discussion Conference in Hangzhou City is still a grand event.

In order to hold this Dharma conference well, the monks of Lingyin Temple had already started preparations several months in advance. On the huge West Lake, there are floating platforms, tall pagodas, flags and flags and red carpets, which must show the spirit of Lingyin Temple in front of Buddhist disciples all over the world.

On the shore, Zen Master Daoji, the abbot of Lingyin Temple, and several junior disciples are supervising the construction of this floating platform. For such an important event, one must watch it personally to be at ease.

At this time, a handsome monk came to the shore, it was Shenxiu who had just been slapped in the face by Daoran.

At this time, Shenxiu was no longer as arrogant as she was when she accused Daoran, but her brows were deeply knit, and she seemed to be in boundless distress.

Seeing Shenxiu's expression, an old monk asked with concern, "Nephew Shenxiu, who is this?"

Shenxiu raised her head and said, "Uncle Daoling, this disciple is confused and wants to ask Master."

Hearing Shenxiu's words, the abbot of Lingyin Temple asked slowly, "What doubts do you have? Can't you find the answer in Buddhist scriptures?"

Shenxiu clasped his hands together and said, "Amitabha, I have disappointed my master. It's just that this incident really makes me hard to let go of. Today, I met a young monk in Sanzang Tower..."

Shenxiu told everyone exactly what happened when he met Daoran, and then said with emotion: "This monk Daoran is younger than me, and he treated me as a breeze when he was insulted twice. At such a young age, he can be flattered or humiliated without being surprised. This kind of xinxing really makes the disciple feel ashamed.

"The last poem is easy to understand but lifelike, as if you saw it with your own eyes. To be able to write such a poem, you must have a good understanding of farming and be full of compassion for the people before you can create it.

"My disciple became a monk when he was young, and he asked himself that he has memorized the Buddhist scriptures backwards, but he can't even compare with a young monk. Is the painstaking practice of these ten years all in vain?"

After hearing Shenxiu's question, the abbot of Lingyin Temple was silent for a moment, pointed to the West Lake, and said to Shenxiu, "Look carefully."

On the lake, the monks and hired workers are still busy, building the floating platform non-stop.

Shenxiu looked at it for a moment, and suddenly realized: "Master, you want to tell me that since you know that your cultivation is not as good as the other party's, you should work harder to catch up. It's like the venue for the Fa Discussion Conference in front of you. As long as you build some every day, you will eventually It will be built one day."

The abbot of Lingyin Temple twitched his eyelids slightly, nodded and said, "Yes, you are my most enlightened disciple, you must not be depressed and disturbed by demons."

Shenxiu quickly said: "I understand, thank you Master for clarifying the confusion."

As if she had really realized something, the sorrow on Shenxiu's face disappeared, and she became smug.

"Prepare well. As a master, I hope you can return home with honor at the Fa Discussion Conference." The abbot of Lingyin Temple said.

Shenxiu quickly said: "I will definitely work hard, and I also want to meet that monk Daoran again at the Fa Discussion Conference."

Seeing that the most outstanding disciple of Lingyin Temple finally regained his confidence, the monks were all happy, and they encouraged him a few words together, and asked him to go back to Lingyin Temple to practice quietly and wait for the puja to start.

It is a praiseworthy thing for a disciple who is troubled by inner demons to get enlightened by the master's guidance.

However, right after Shenxiu left, the abbot of Lingyin Temple, who was still dignified, suddenly changed his face, and said to the other monks pleadingly.

"Few Buddhas, please forgive me. I really can't pretend anymore. I don't want the money, can't I?"

The monk Daoling next to him heard this, and hurriedly shouted in a low voice: "Shut up, what do you think this is, straighten your back for me!"

The abbot of Lingyin Temple, who was scolded, put away the sorrowful expression on his face, and continued to maintain the posture of a great virtuous monk, but still whispered: "You guys, I really can't pretend anymore. This is the third time. You can't just let me point the finger at the sky and fool you every time, can you?"

Several monks in Lingyin Temple also looked ugly. It was too thrilling just now.

Except for the few Taoist monks in front of me, the people in Lingyin Temple, and even the entire Hangzhou city, no one knew that the abbot of Lingyin Temple was actually a fake.

The real Zen Master Daoji passed away five years ago.
