Chapter 2 Owls

The food in the Santa Maria Welfare Institute is very good, and each of the more than 100 children can eat meat every day. It's just that the UK is a gourmet desert, and the style of the dishes is really monotonous.Fish, chips, chips, and fried fish are the most common foods on the table.

Looking at the golden fried fish in front of him and the few pieces of broccoli and green beans on the side, Ike misses the braised pork every day.

Unfortunately, Groggs is a small place and there is no such thing as a Chinatown.

More importantly, Ike didn't have much money.

The orphanage will only provide food, clothing, housing and transportation for the children. Even if Santa Maria receives a lot of donations every year, they will not give the children some pocket money like ordinary people. If you want money, you have to work.

The older children are fine, they can work as waiters in local supermarkets, convenience stores, shopping malls, and restaurants, and the younger ones can also be newspaper boys, delivering newspapers from door to door on bicycles.

At this embarrassing age, Ike can't be a waiter, nor can he rob his brothers and sisters as buddies. There are really few ways to make money. And because of that special ability, Julian rarely let Ike go out from Santa Maria.

If not, he would not have won the title of guardian of the oak tree.

After eating the fried fish and broccoli in front of him with a droopy face, he washed the dinner plate and put it in the cutlery recycling place. After greeting Ike and Julia, they went back to their dormitory.

As "Julianne's favourite," at age 10, Ike received a perk that other children received at 14: a private room.

A bed, a wardrobe for clothes, a table and a chair are all Ike's room has.

On the table was the book Julian gave Ike, and there was an old schoolbag beside the table leg.Right now it is the time when the school is on holiday, and Ike, who enjoys a happy education, does not have much homework. Most of the books are placed in the school cabinet, and there are only two or three books borrowed from the school library in the schoolbag.

"World History" is not very esoteric.

Picking up a book, Ike lay down on the bed.Reading a book before going to bed is a habit left in the past.At this time, there are still nearly 20 years before the popularity of smartphones, and there is no way to read books.

The next morning, Ike was woken up by a sound of "Boom, Boom, Boom".Squinting his eyes to follow the sound, he saw an owl standing outside the window with a letter in its mouth, and its sharp beak knocked rhythmically on the glass.

Seeing that Ike woke up, he moved his head excitedly and knocked on the window more frequently.

"No." Ike couldn't tell what his mood was when he saw this scene, he was a little excited and a little surprised. As a person who has watched eight movies plus two "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", plus dozens of fan stories, Ike is quite familiar with this scene.

Open the window, and the owl flapped its wings and flew in.Ike reached for the letter and looked at the familiar coat of arms, a big "H" in the middle, surrounded by a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake.

Turning it over again, I saw a line written on it: Gloucestershire, 231 Treadworth Road, on the bed in the third floor room of St. Mary's Orphanage, received by Mr. Ike Strider.

"Sure enough! Really!" Ike quickly opened the envelope and took out the letter, which read as expected:

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(President of the International Federation of Magic, President of the Wizarding Association, first-class magician of the Merlin Sir Order)

Dear Mr Strayer:
We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.Enclosed is a list of required books and equipment.

Semester is scheduled to start on September 31st, and we will be waiting for your owl to hear from you by July [-]st.

In view of your special situation, we will send someone to your residence to answer your doubts and give you due help.

Vice-Chancellor

Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall.

"Cuckoo, cluck, cluck" Ike relieved himself, looked at the owl that was looking at him with its head tilted to the side, smiled and reached out to touch its head.

"You have to wait for the reply." After saying that, he put on his clothes, grabbed the letter and went out.

"Dean Julian! Dean Julian!"

Ike knocked on the door for a while before waiting for Julian to open it.Before Julian could speak, Ike handed over the letter.

"Dean Julian, I have received a letter."

"Little Ike, you got up very early today." Julian accepted the letter with a smile, but didn't read it. Instead, she dragged Ike into the room, poured him a cup of black tea, and began to read it while talking.

"Usually you don't wake up until after nine o'clock, so early today, because of this letter? Let me see... um, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?"

"What is this? A prank?"

"I don't know." Ike shook his head. "It was sent by an owl, I think it should be true. Dean Julian, you know, I..."

"That's right." Headmaster Julian nodded, "It looks like this is not impossible."

"By the way, it said someone would come? Why didn't they say when..."

"Dean Julian..." Ike pointed to the fireplace in the room where the green fire suddenly ignited, "I think someone should come."

Julian looked towards the fireplace and saw a figure suddenly appear from the green fire. She wears square glasses, has curly black hair in a high bun, wears a dark green robe, and wears a pointed wizard hat, looking very serious.

"Hello, Ms. Julian, Mr. Strider. I am the vice-principal of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Minerva McGonagall. You can call me Professor McGonagall."

Professor McGonagall nodded slightly, reached out and shook Julian and Ike. "Speaking of which, your fireplace needs to be cleaned. It's quite dusty, Ms. Julianne."

"Clean it up." Professor McGonagall took out his wand, and the dust in the room was swept up by a small whirlwind and flew out along the chimney of the fireplace.

Julian looked at everything, even though she had prepared herself before, she was still surprised.

"Is this magic?"

"Just a simple cleansing spell, ma'am," Professor McGonagall said, waving his wand again, turning a chair into a majestic lion, and then into a tap-dancing teapot, and waving his wand again to turn the chair Change back.

"Mr. Strider is gifted with magic, and he will get a good education at Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall briefly introduced the basic situation of Hogwarts.

"Oh, little Ike." Julian stroked Ike's hair, "Although I knew that there would be a day when you would leave me, I didn't expect this day to come so soon."

"But it's okay, I think you will have a good time at Hogg... Hogwarts school."

"At least you don't have to try to hide it anymore, don't you?"

"Wait, Ms. Julian." Professor McGonagall asked aloud, "Did you just say hide?"

"Of course." Julian nodded, "Little Ike is a magical child, I've always known that." As he spoke, he motioned for Ike to perform.

Facing the two pairs of expectant eyes, Ike waved his hand, and a pen flew up from Julian's table, circled the three of them a few times, and returned to the table steadily.

"It's unbelievable, Mr. Strayer." Professor McGonagall was a little surprised, "You really are a very talented little wizard. You must know that even children from wizard families rarely do things like you. No!"

"You are overrated, Professor McGonagall." Ike bowed slightly, "I just don't want others to be hurt because of me."

Julian touched Ike's hair and told what happened in the orphanage before. After hearing this, Professor McGonagall couldn't help saying: "Mr. Strider, I have to say that your talent is amazing."

"Maybe... I have to make a little change." Professor McGonagall thought for a while, and then said, "Then, Mr. Strayer, I will come again on July 7, that is, two days later, and take you to buy new students." Books and equipment needed for admission."

"It's supposed to be at the end of the month, but I want to see some magic books sooner, it's always good, isn't it?"

"Of course, Professor McGonagall." Ike quickly replied, "Then see you on July 7."

"See you on the 12th." Professor McGonagall nodded slightly to Julian and Ike, then waved his wand, and with a harsh sound of "pop", Professor McGonagall disappeared into the room.

After a while, Julian came back to her senses from what happened just now, bent down slightly, and said with a smile: "Little Ike, I didn't expect you to be a wizard, and you will go to a magic school soon It's magical. It's unbelievable!"

"Unbelievable!" Julian sighed, "When I picked you up in front of the orphanage more than ten years ago, you were still such a small one. Now that you have grown up, you are leaving me to learn magic."

"Oh! Magic! Unbelievable!"

Ike looked at Dean Julian who was at a loss, and felt a lot of emotion in his heart. He quickly comforted him: "It's not that I will never come back. I will still come back after school holidays."

"I hope you don't give my room to others, so I won't have a place to sleep at night." Ike blinked his blue eyes playfully.

"Of course, your room is always there."

"This is your home, isn't it? Little Ike."

"Yes, this is my home, you are my family..."

"Dearest family..."
