America 1881: They Call Me Legend

Chapter 322 The Pockmarked Detective

Chapter 322 The Pockmarked Detective

Pinkerton Detective Agency, America's first private detective agency.

Founded in 1850 by ex-Scottish criminal, cooper and Chicago Police Department detective Aaron Pinkerton.

During the American Civil War, they formed an organization for President Lincoln's Northern Union Army to collect military intelligence on the southern separatist forces, thus gaining the support and trust of the Union.

After the Civil War, when people began to set off towards the vastness of the west, Pinkerton also seized this opportunity.

Taking advantage of the weak law enforcement in the west and the inconvenient law enforcement between states, they began to provide security assistance to a large number of industrial owners.

In addition, many of their agents have outstanding abilities and are very good at penetrating the enemy's interior.

Therefore, Pinkerton Detective Agency has gradually grown.

They established an intelligence base that was quite high at the time in Chicago to provide the intelligence they needed for their branches across the country.

And Harry Rivers was holding an analysis report sent from Chicago at this time.

"Chen Jianqiu, a businessman of Chinese descent, has become a hot figure in Lincolnshire, New Mexico in less than a year."

In his office in Santa Fe, he shared the information with the other detectives in the house.

These detectives sat around a large table, their eyes wandering between the information on the table and their leaders.

The office was smoky, but the smoke came from Harry's pipe.

"Executive Lynch is said to have been watching this man before he disappeared," said a detective.

"Why 'supposedly'?" Harry caught the detective's words sharply.

The detective was a little embarrassed, so he had to answer honestly: "Because when Chief Lynch was in charge of the western region, the information and materials were closed internally and kept secret from the outside. Only he and the people around him knew."

"What about those who know?"

"Du, all disappeared with Chief Lynch."

Everyone present gasped.

"This guy is wanted in Wyoming, Colorado, and he's committed some pretty horrific crimes in Denver, and the locals know that."

Another detective dug out another file and said.

"Didn't he even change his name?" Harry took a puff on his pipe.

"No change, exactly the same."

"Then let's go directly to arrest him." Someone suggested.

"Arrest him? Have you pigs been to Lincolnshire and Roswell? Have you been to Denver?"

A hoarse voice suddenly sounded from the end of the table.

The speaker was a detective in his thirties.

His image was very sloppy, his hair was disheveled, his face was pockmarked and stained, as if he hadn't washed it for a long time.

Just now, when everyone was studying materials and listening to Harry's "teachings", this man crossed his legs, leaned back in the chair and covered his face with a hat.

No one in the office knew whether he was asleep or not, or that no one noticed him at all.

"The arrest warrants in Colorado and Wyoming have been withdrawn a long time ago! Even the files have been processed! The person who handled these matters is a veteran of wiping ass, and there is no clue at all!"

"There is no one in Lincolnshire who does not say good about him, at least all I have come into contact with; as for Roswell? Do you know how many Chinese there are? Do you know how many militia there are?"

The pockmarked detective put his hands behind his head and was lying halfway against the back of the chair, with a cynical look on his face.

"Chinese? Militia? Then we have more reason to accuse them of threatening national security. I think we can inform the Federation of this matter through our relationship."

The detective who proposed the arrest began to find cover for himself.

"Do you think Washington doesn't know about these things?" Pockmarked face said dismissively, "The New Mexico region is not even an official member of the Federation now!"

"It was established with the approval of the governor of the Republican Party. The US Army is stationed nearby. The citizens of their own state didn't say anything. What's the use of your words? Who do you think you are? A politician?"

"The Pinkerton Detective Agency is now in a mess because of you trash who only know how to talk all day long." He seemed to get angrier as he spoke.

"Enough! White! Come out with me."

Harry interrupted Detective Pocky Face and led him outside the office door.

"White! If you have this attitude every time you attend a meeting, it's really hard for me to let you stay here! You may have to go back to Austin."

He was smoking his pipe, and said to the pockmarked face in front of him.

"That's best, I can't bear to work with these idiots for a long time." Pocky-faced White purposely amplified his voice and said it to the people in the conference room.

Haney wanted to say something else.

Suddenly a clerk came in from the door.

"Mr. Rivers, someone came to you and said that Sergeant Pile introduced you and wanted to talk to you about business."

Harry thought for a long time, but he couldn't remember who Paile was.

"Sheriff of Lincolnshire, I gave him your contact card when I went." White turned and left, leaving a word for Harry.

"How dare you impersonate me?!" Harry couldn't hold back his temper, and angrily said, "Where did you get my contact card?"

But White only left him a back view without a word of explanation.

"You study first, I'll come back later." Harry put his head into the meeting room and said, then walked towards the meeting room with his pipe hanging.

His anger was still there, his heart was beating very fast, and his face was still flushed.

However, when Harry walked into the drawing room, his blood pressure was even higher.

A Chinese businessman in a black cloth robe was sitting on the sofa, and behind him stood a woman and several heavily armed cowboys.

The Chinese businessman was looking at him with a smile.

And this person's face, Harry just saw it on the information Chicago gave him.

"Hello, Mr. Rivers! My name is Chen Jianqiu, nice to meet you!"

Chen Jianqiu stood up and stretched out his hand to Harry.

Harry Rivers subconsciously held Chen Jianqiu's hand, his face was a little dazed.

When he reacted and returned to normal, he found that Chen Jianqiu was observing his face with great interest.

"Oh, Mr. Chen, right? May I ask what you can do to see me?" Harry Rivers asked.

"My bank was robbed. According to the preliminary judgment at the scene, it was the thief Jesse James who did it. I heard that you guys are very experienced in hunting down this kind of person, so I want to hire you to catch this guy for me." Chen Jianqiu said .

"So, may I ask how much money you were robbed?"

"190 eight dollars and forty-four cents, sir."

Harry Rivers nearly choked on the smoke from his own pipe.

His first reaction was that he didn't want to take this job, because generally speaking, there shouldn't be much commission for a case with this amount of money.

But after thinking about it, this is an opportunity to get close to Chen Jianqiu.

"Okay, let's take this case." Harry took a deep drag on his pipe.
