America 1881: They Call Me Legend

Chapter 327 The Joint in the Tavern

"Back door? Tavern?" Chen Jianqiu stood up from the window.

He took out his two golden guns from the box and changed into a cowboy outfit at the same time.

"Come on, let's go and have a look." Chen Jianqiu put on his hat, adjusted the position of the holster, and walked towards the door of the room.

Led by Sean, the two came to the door of an inconspicuous tavern.

The two leaned on the opposite street corner, observing the tavern.

Like other taverns in the west, the entrance of this tavern is a double bat door.

The lights are on, it's not too loud, and it's much quieter than other entertainment venues in the area.

"Boss, this is here, or let's go in and have a look."

After Sean finished speaking, he was about to walk towards the gate.

However, Chen Jianqiu grabbed his shoulder.

He lowered his head, lowered the brim of his hat, and curled up in the corner of the chair.

The boss who was bragging with other customers happened to pass by him.

Chen Jianqiu didn't speak, he turned the wine glass in his hand, and continued to watch White from the side.

Chen Jianqiu didn't know what happened between Detective Pocky Face and Carson.

Maybe it was not worthwhile to shoot and kill a Pinkerton detective in the tavern for no reason, but Carson chose not to do it in the end:

Boss: "Behind you, in the direction of the corner, there is a black man staring at us."

Black people can read lips.

The grumpy "Bull" had already touched his waist, and several other people behind Carson were also staring at White closely.

"I'm very concerned about your affairs." Carson said eccentrically.

After drinking from the glass, White picked up the bottle again and began to add wine to the glass.

"Mr. Carson, what do you want to drink today?" The tavern owner stood at the bar and greeted him warmly.

But that's because the effect of many theaters is not very good. If the actors' skills are not enough, it is difficult for their lines to pass to the back row.

White: "I'll be careful."

White: "Is there anything else you want to tell me?"

And White's mouth opened for the first time after Chen Jianqiu and Xiao En entered the tavern.

Officer Carson ignored him.

They didn't wait too long, and after a while, a scruffy cowboy came out of the door.

"Boot Hill." Chen Jianqiu leaned against the bar, the voice came from under the cowboy hat, and the boss couldn't see his face.

After entering the tavern, Chen Jianqiu didn't rush to look up to find the target, but walked along the aisle with Xiao En to the corner of the bar quietly.

"But I don't care about you." White glanced at the law enforcement officer opposite.

He picked up his hat from the chair next to him, straightened his clothes, turned around, and prepared to walk towards Chen Jianqiu's table.

Chen Jianqiu did not disturb him, but quietly listened to Xiao En's "simultaneous interpretation".

The boss handed over two glasses of wine without saying a word.

The pock marks on Detective Pockmark's face were beating slightly.

Detectives usually come here to do nothing. Even if they come, they often change their clothes and go to the red light district to do as the Romans do.

"What brand do you want?" the tavern owner continued to ask.

They didn't know if some unlucky guy would get caught, dragged from the tavern into the street, and shot indiscriminately.

Chen Jianqiu lowered the brim of his hat, and led Xiao En forward quickly.

Detective Mazi, on the other hand, drank one sip after another, even his gaze and expression didn't change much.

The atmosphere in the tavern suddenly became tense.

White: "Have you been in touch with Jeffries lately?"

If you appear too much like a know-it-all passer-by when ordering bourbon at a Dodge City tavern, you risk getting targeted.

White sat alone at a table with a wine bottle and a glass in front of him.

"Well, yo, yo, let's see, who is this?" He circled White, "I was told that Thomas White, the famous Pinkerton detective, appeared in the infamous Dodge City."

He quickly spotted White.

Sean snapped his mouth shut.

"He should be waiting for someone." Sean put his hand on his cheek.

White: "When I'm not sure, I won't act rashly."

This person is not really just here to drink, is he?

But this time, he didn't know whether it was because of the effect of alcohol or because he was absent-minded, he was a little careless and spilled some wine outside the table.

The boss picked up the rag in his hand, bent down, and began to wipe the wine on the table.

"What would you like?" asked the tavern owner in overalls.

And Chen Jianqiu didn't know when, he had already changed to the chair opposite Xiao En, with his back facing White.

"Two glasses of bourbon, sir." Chen Jianqiu took out the change and put it on the table, lowered his head slightly, and began to scan the entire tavern under the brim of his hat.

White: "Can you ask him out these two days?"

It was as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.

(silence.)

He faced several people on the opposite side by himself, and his momentum did not drop at all.

Detective Mazi stared straight ahead without saying a word, taking a sip from his glass from time to time, and then continued to "daze".

Wyatt told him that the winery was well-known near Dodge City, and the boss himself was a member of a local gang and had a background in bootlegging.

Boss: "He should be driving the cattle from the pasture to the livestock exchange tomorrow. I suggest you meet him alone."

From the moment he got off the train, he and his fellow detectives took off their uniforms and changed into civilian clothes.

They seem to be communicating with each other, but the voice is so low that even the table next to them can't hear it at all.

With his hands on his waist, he glanced at everyone in the tavern.

His mouth seemed to be saying something.

However, after about ten minutes, the seat opposite White was still vacant.

"They're connecting." Sean whispered, but his eyes continued to stare there.

The neighborhood of Dodge City's railway red-light district has always been a forbidden area for Pinkerton detectives.

His winery is known for controlling everything from seed to bottle, so the product is very popular with the local gang in Dodge City.

It was the fourth time he had poured wine into his glass.

Chen Jianqiu observed his surroundings, and found that no one noticed these two people, and when he looked at Xiao En across the table, he found that the black man was staring at the lips of these two people.

White: "I need him."

This man was exactly the police officer that Chen Jianqiu and the others had seen earlier on the street conniving at the murder of his subordinates.

And the murderer, nicknamed "Bull", was standing beside him fiercely at the moment.

The boss took the wine off the table with a last rag, straightened up, and walked towards the bar.

However, just as he was about to leave his table, the bat door of the tavern was violently knocked open by a person.

But now, in the chest pocket of his suit, there was a white square scarf, with a corner slightly exposed.

So, he learned to read lips.

(The boss's hand wiping the table pauses for a moment)
Boss: "It might put him in danger."

(silence.)

"No hurry, wait for someone to come out."

A man wearing a police badge broke into the tavern with several people.

This kind of thing happens almost every now and then in Dodge City.

They passed the cowboy face to face and entered the saloon.

He once told Chen Jianqiu that when he was young, he often sneaked into the theater to steal things, and occasionally squatted in the corner of the back row to watch the theater.

Chen Jianqiu and Xiao En took it, found a seat in the corner and sat down.

But this time, they all escaped the disaster.

Boss: "He has found Jesse James's ranch, sneaked in, and worked under his mother."

"I'm just passing by." White said calmly without any fear.

He stopped in front of Detective Mazi, staring at him coldly: "So, what are you here for?"

He led a group of people to Detective Mazi:

Some of the cowboys in the tavern stared at the Dodge City law enforcement officer in front of them, and some lowered their heads, but they were all nervous because they didn't know what this moody guy was thinking.

Carson's eyes stopped on White.

White drank the wine in the glass in one gulp and stood up.

"You'd better be passing by."

The shootout didn't happen in the end. Carson turned around and left with his men after uttering a harsh word.

White knew that this was not a place to stay for a long time, so he left immediately.

"Are we still following tomorrow?" Sean asked in a low voice.

Chen Jianqiu answered immediately, but drank the bourbon whiskey on the table in one gulp.
