Chapter 100: Movement 3: March

Chapter 100 The Third Movement: March (Ⅵ)

In 2074, on the morning of January 1st, Night City was still gloomy.

The torrential rain last night seemed to be in a hurry, and accidentally left a handful of black skirt hem corners in the sky.

Some people wake up very early, put on their clothes in a hurry, and rush to their work stations; some people wake up very late, slowly enjoying the meticulous care of the servants.

Some people leaned against the window, smoking one cigarette after another, and stayed up all night.

There are also people who fall asleep once they sleep, that is, eternal sleep.

"Good morning, Lucy." The rustling movement behind him did not interfere with what Yawei was doing.

"Good morning..." Lucy opened the closed window, and stretched lazily facing the ashes outside the window.

"Where's Xita?" He asked softly as he cracked the eggs into the bowl.

"Sleeping like a pig..." Lucy rubbed her sore arms, "She entangled me like an octopus all night."

"Quite a novel experience, isn't it?" Yawei chuckled, and poured some warm water that had been boiled in advance into the pot.

Lucy smiled, noncommittal.

"What are you doing?" She stood on tiptoe, looking curiously at the eggs in the bowl and the warm water in the pot from a distance.

"Egg custard..." Yawei turned around and handed her a pair of wooden chopsticks, "Can you beat eggs? Add warm water and beat well..."

"Do you want to add salt?" Lucy took the chopsticks and asked skillfully.

"Often cook by yourself?" Yawei raised his eyebrows, and put the jar of salt in front of her.

"When you're hungry, eat snacks and read cooking magazines at the same time, you will feel that the taste in your mouth is much more delicious."

"Xitan used to be like this..." He sighed softly, and took the beaten egg from Lucy's hands.

"What happened to me before?" Xita suddenly got out from behind Yawei, but unfortunately failed to scare him.

Yawei opened his mouth, but in the end he just lowered his head and kissed Xita's troublesome face back.

"Mom? Why did you get up late today?" David narrowed his sleepy eyes, brushed his teeth, and walked from the bathroom to the wardrobe in the living room to change clothes, but accidentally caught a glimpse of Gloria who was still at home.

"Isn't the school holding a parents' meeting today?" Gloria walked up to her son who was still a little dazed with a smile, and gently wiped away the foam left at the corner of his mouth.

"what about work?"

"Our team is on vacation today, and we said that we will attend the funeral of a colleague from another department..."

"but?"

"But I asked your sister Xita and Yawei to participate..." Gloria scratched her red hair and said with some embarrassment.

"It's really you..." David curled his lips, "It's a bit unlucky to ask someone to attend the funeral before the New Year..."

"Ah!" Gloria patted her forehead in distress, "I forgot about this one."

"Although they don't care about such trivial matters..."

"So you're teasing mom?" Gloria came to her senses, stretched out her hand viciously, pinched David's face, and gently stretched it left and right.

"Smile more, Mom." David narrowed his eyes and gently hugged her who was much thinner.

"Brat..." Gloria snorted and scratched David's bristling hair vigorously.

"Then I'll go to school first, contact me during the parent meeting in the afternoon, and I'll pick you up then..."

"it is good……"

While she was in a daze, David had already gently closed the door and went to school.

It took a while before Gloria came to her senses.

Looking at the closed door in front of her, she shook her head and trotted to the window.

Trying to reach her head, her face pressed tightly against the cold glass, she only saw a vague little figure walking in a hurry, and disappeared in the bustling crowd in the blink of an eye.

"You've grown up... brat."

Gloria looked up at the gray sky with her head held high.

It didn't rain today.

But there are drops of water falling.

"Wow, delicious!" Wearing pure white cotton socks, Xi Tan squinted her eyes and put her feet on her boyfriend's lap.

"It's new, it tastes good." Yawei lowered his head, and put a small spoonful of warm and tender custard into his mouth, "Thanks to Lucy, the eggs are well beaten."

"Yeah." Lucy scooped up a spoonful and blew on it gently.

So the little spoonful of eggs danced along with the disturbance of the airflow.

Soft and tender like jelly.

"It's good to be like this in the future..." Xi Tan took another sip of the custard with chopped green onions, and said vaguely.

"Then I'll be your servant. It's a beautiful idea..." Lucy shook her head, put away the faint feeling of achievement in her heart, and put the bouncing egg into her mouth in one gulp.

"Hee hee..." Xi Tan rubbed her silver hair, laughed, and buried her face in the bowl.

"Oh, by the way, we're going to attend the funeral of a colleague instead of Gloria this afternoon..."

"Should I go too?" Lucy asked back, seeing Xita's pitiful eyes out of the corner of her eye, and felt that she couldn't bear to refuse again.

"Let me tell you first, I don't have the clothes to wear to the funeral..." She sighed, but accepted it half-heartedly.

"Okay! We'll go to the mall to buy clothes later!" Xita's plan succeeded, and she couldn't help showing a bright smile of joy.

"I don't care..." Yawei said in a low voice, picked up the bowl, and drank the egg custard.

"By the way, do you know whose funeral it is? Couldn't it be the so-called 'funeral' of a big company... just a formality?"

"Unfortunately, there is a high probability that it will be that kind of 'funeral'." Xi Tan sighed.

"If you have this spare time, why don't you collect the corpses of those unlucky people who died on the side of the road and were unclaimed." Lucy raised her eyebrows, "The management dogs of the company just have a lot of trouble..."

"It is said that many people have been invited to participate, and the momentum is quite large. Gloria received the invitation just after she was promoted..."

"Usually, in this case, either the company's top executives died and some people were found to set up the atmosphere; or someone died in the line of duty, and the company did it to appease people..." Lucy said contemptuously. She couldn't understand the corrupt rules and regulations. "Those who really want to come to express their condolences will be stopped instead..."

"Oh..." Xi Tan sighed, "The hypocrisy is to the extreme..."

"Maybe there will be a monument, a statue, etc... New America has always been like this, even if Night City is independent now, it can't get rid of the stench in the bones." Lucy said, putting the last spoonful of eggs at the bottom of the bowl He swallowed the soup, and let out a long, warm breath.
