The Laws of Werewolf Hunting

Chapter 339 Can’t take any time off
Clayton opened his eyes and saw an unfamiliar ceiling.
He turned his head to observe the environment and found that he was in a closed bedroom. The sunlight shone through the curtains, which was more intimate to the Darkin than the sunlight in the fairyland, but the overall room temperature was much lower than that in this country.
The smell around him felt familiar to Clayton, and he concluded that he was in the home of Mayor Jeffrey.
He returned to Gevaux.
But he was the only one here, and no one knew where Donna, Clara and Louis had gone.
Clayton was about to get up and go find them. He moved his hands, but felt shackled. He looked down and found a pair of iron handcuffs on his hands. He subconsciously struggled hard, but only left two red marks on his wrists. He then remembered that this was not a fairyland, and he could not use the power of a werewolf anytime and anywhere.
The bedroom door opened and a stranger walked in and used the key in his hand to uncuff Clayton.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Bello. Mr. Julius introduced you to us. I'm sorry to have you wake up in this state, but this is a necessary defensive measure."
"Defensive measures?"
"We can't be sure that it is you who have returned. You may not look exactly the same. Who knows what is in Wonderland?" The stranger took back the keys and handcuffs and put them in his pocket. "However, the inspection has just been completed. Your niece and pet are waiting for you outside."
Clayton followed him out of the room. There were some strange occult symbols painted on the floor of the corridor outside, with burn marks on the edges of the paint.
A dark-skinned young man with white hair was squatting there checking them. He looked up when he heard the door open, then smiled at him.
Although Clayton didn't know him, he nodded to him.
There were still sounds of discussion coming from downstairs, with accents coming from all over, even foreign languages. These people were definitely not locals. It seemed that the helpers from the Presbyterian Church were using this place as a temporary command center.
Adelaide's report was more useful than expected.
When he was in Wonderland, Clayton just wanted to come back, but after returning, these strange people suddenly gathered in groups, and he couldn't help but think of his previous promise to the Elders' Council. Even though he claimed to be fearless, he couldn't relax.
He had a premonition that the elders would not help him for nothing - he would be busy next.
Walking through the corridor, Clayton saw Donna holding Clara and talking to Julius, both of them had serious expressions.
When they saw Clayton approaching, their expressions eased a little.
Julius put his hands in his coat with pockets full and raised his chin to him: "How did you sleep?"
"My back aches and the bed they gave me is too small."
"You're still in the mood to tell jokes. It looks like you've recovered well." Julius exhaled, turned around and looked at Donna enviously: "Alas, why couldn't I go with you? With these experiences, I can write a travelogue that will sell well. You must have gained a lot. Even Clara has grown a hand."
He pointed a finger at Clara, but the weirdo raised his hand and slapped it away.
"Is Edwards' head and Pan's body there?" Clayton asked Donna.
It was Julius who answered him: "The human head and the monster's body are in the church. Our people have blocked off that area. This matter is more serious than we expected at the beginning. Old Jonrad will probably have a headache."
"what happened?"
"This matter involves a clergyman. People from the church will also come to see it. There will definitely be an interrogation." The wizard shrugged: "When encountering such a matter, we have to deal with it together. This is a private agreement between the Presbyterian Church and the local church."
Clayton walked to the window in the corridor and saw several black carriages parked outside the small building, surrounding it like vultures eating carrion.
"So when can we go back to the city?" That's all he cared about.
"We can leave now. They can only interrogate our people on our territory," said Julius.
The Elders' Council came to the rescue with four carriages. It would not be a problem for them to take everyone away. More members of the Elders' Council would surely come by carriages later. According to the procedure, they would dismember Pan's body and then secretly bring it back to Sasha City as quickly as possible.
Because the church was blocked, the locals would not even know that such a body had been placed in their church, and the church members certainly would not find out.
"Don't worry, no one will ask you questions for now. These new guys only care about how to open the door to Wonderland. Just ask Chude Osmar about this question." The wizard winked at the werewolf and said, "You tortured him hard enough."
"That's his own problem. He shouldn't have messed with us," Clayton said. "Where's Father Louis?" he asked again.
"He looks more pious than before. What do you expect me to say?" Seeing the unfriendly look on the black-haired man's face, the green-haired man quickly changed his words: "Okay, it's just a joke. He's very good. Adelaide knows him. At least our people won't embarrass him."
"But I can't say for sure about the people in the church." He still did not forget to predict the worst outcome.
Clayton nodded and asked no more questions. He walked past the wizard and headed for the stairs, his steps becoming more and more brisk, and Donna followed him.
Julius followed behind the Bello uncle and nephew, and when Clayton walked down the steps, he said, "If you want to get your luggage, they are in the living room on the first floor. I asked Jeffrey's old servant to bring them over."
Clayton was stunned for a moment and turned around.
"What happened to Barbara?"
"You're really quick," the wizard praised, but Donna looked uneasy beside him, which made Clayton frown.
"The day after you disappeared, four people she attacked died due to worsening injuries. I and others originally wanted her to move away before the church people arrived, but she didn't want to go. Because Pero's vitality was sucked away in Osmar's ritual, and now he is dying, she feels that he can't bear the bumps on the road, so she insisted on staying here with him, and closed the door and windows to prevent others from entering. Marietta, who was able to speak just now, was driven out, and only Lazarus stayed inside with her."
Barbara killed four innocent people in the street, but Clayton didn't expect that the Presbyterian Church was still willing to protect her.
He had decided not to deal with this dangerous and out-of-control lady, but she had helped him after all, and never refused when he asked for help, and had taken them in for a while, so he couldn't forget her kindness. Thinking of this, Clayton looked at Donna, who was rarely silent.
She had received the news from Julius before, and her original relaxed mood of returning to the real world was swept away.
This is not a fairyland, people died when they were seriously injured, and she couldn't turn a blind eye to this crime because of her friendship with Barbara. But it was also difficult for her to accept the news of Barbara's execution or Perrault's death.
"I'll go talk to her, you guys stay here." Clayton walked to the door and habitually reached out to the coat rack, but there were too many hats on it, and they all looked very similar. He was stunned for a moment, then withdrew his hand and went out bareheaded.
Gevaux was an unfamiliar town for the werewolf, but as Barbara's house had been his previous safe house, he was now familiar with the route.
This is an old building, but it is full of life.
Clayton stood in front of Barbara's door and knocked, but no one responded.
He turned his head to look, walked to the hidden side of the house, jumped up and hooked onto the windowsill on the second floor, then exerted force to lift his body, then opened the window and nimbly got in.
The house was quiet, without a sound of breathing.
But Clayton knew where Barbara would be, so he walked straight to the closed bedroom door and turned the doorknob. The poorly maintained door hinges made a harsh squeak as they turned.
On the wide bed, Barbara, still in her dress, was lying in the middle of the bed with her skinny husband in her arms. Her head was buried in Perrault's chest, her golden hair covering his neck, and both of them were sleeping peacefully with their eyes closed.
There was a smell of burning wood in the room, but the brazier had been out for a long time and the room temperature was as cold as the outside.
Clayton stood a foot away from the end of the bed, carefully examining the mismatched couple, but the usually sensitive vampire was unaware and continued to sleep soundly with a flushed face.
The lieutenant's face became solemn. The bodies of vampires are dead. They cannot taste food, feel cold or heat or pain, and cannot sleep. Only when they have sucked enough hot blood can they reactivate their sensory organs in life. But at this moment, Barbara was clearly in a deep sleep.
What blood did she suck?
Thinking of Lazarus's experience, Clayton had a guess - she had exchanged part of her blood with Pero.
The woman tried the transformation ritual again.
"Ma'am." He called in a deep voice.
Barbara's eyelashes moved, and she opened her confused eyes. Then she remembered something, and her eyes suddenly became clear but panicked. She sat up suddenly, rolled over and threw herself on her husband, checking his physical condition, completely ignoring Clayton's existence.
When Barbara stood up, the lieutenant finally saw the teeth marks on Perrault's neck.
After a while, she collapsed in despair, and the corpse beneath her did not move.
“It didn’t work.”
Clayton had no idea what was wrong with her operation and could only remain silent and listen.
"He must be too weak to transform. I should have killed him earlier! Ah - it would be better to kill him when he said 'don't do this', when he still has the strength to bear my blood. Don't you agree, Mr. Bello?"
Barbara murmured softly and mournfully, and at the end she suddenly turned her head to the other side and asked for Clayton's opinion with a hopeful look on her face.
"I think so," said Clayton sincerely.
Although this jealous old man sometimes caused him trouble, Perrault had done his best to be a good host to outsiders like them, and there was nothing to blame him for.
He also felt sorry for Perrault's death.
"Take his body with you and let's go back to the city and give him a decent burial. Where's Ian Lazarus? Let him come and help."
The female vampire shook her head and calmly lay down next to her husband again.
"I asked him to go back first, you should go back too."
Clayton looked at the bedside table, where a letter box sat.
"I heard you have several children," he continued trying to persuade.
But Barbara did not respond. She seemed not to have heard anything. Her tea-red eyes were fixed on the pure white ceiling, and the corners of her mouth were slightly raised. She was actually smiling. No one knew what she saw.
There was a long silence.
Clayton rolled up his sleeves and decided to return the favor in his own way.
More and more black hairs protruded from the back of his hand.
"Why did you come back with a box containing the confused detective? Aren't you disgusted by its dirtiness?" Julius asked.
Clayton threw the box to the ground with a heavy sound, and blood seeped out from the cracks in the box. Donna stared at the flowing liquid uneasily without saying a word.
"Stop whining. Find someone to load Mr. Perrault's body onto the carriage. Then call Serani. We're going back to the city now."
