The Laws of Werewolf Hunting
Chapter 353 Homeless
Chapter 353 Homeless
It seemed that Clayton Bello had an extraordinary visitor.
If this were not the case, it would be impossible to explain why Julius was kicked out just after he received his room key from Harrington, the butler.
Clayton rushed into the house at full speed, stuffed a thick stack of banknotes into his hand, and asked him to take Clara away first.
Seeing the antique dealer's anxious look, the wizard thought it was a bishop who came to visit, but when he asked, it turned out not to be the case.
There was no way, Julius was a man of integrity. He took the money, so of course he had to work.
He brought Clara to Grogne's house using the cover and birdcage given by Clayton. Without the person who gave him life, the house, although small, seemed particularly deserted.
To ease the punishment for breaking the contract, Grogne went to sleep in the forest, and now no one can find him.
"This old guy can really sleep."
The green-haired wizard muttered as he threw the bags of goods he had just bought, along with Clara, onto the table with a thump.
A pot of white flowers of an unknown variety on the windowsill suddenly moved and turned the flower cup.
Julius sneered: "Ah, yes, yes, you have remembered it all, let him listen, let him listen!"
The white flower turned back again, and Julius spat at it: "You newborn goblin dares to threaten me, be careful or I'll sprinkle salt on your soil!"
There are many little elves around Grogne, they also come from Godolin - because of the countless interpersonal relationships of the forest elves, they come to the city to help. Due to their unpredictable characteristics, they become the old forest elves' extra eyes and ears.
Julius doesn't like them because they don't help him.
He opened the package and took out the different bags of herbs one by one. The various actions in Gevo consumed a lot of the potions and alchemical materials that the wizards carried with them, but they were all low-grade stuff. When he thought about having to brew them again to replenish them, Julius was full of disgust.
But Clayton Bello definitely got his money's worth.
The Presbyterian commissioner had been pestering him recently, and Julius had suffered a lot for him, so he naturally thought he deserved to be rich.
After the wizard finished packing his luggage, Clara started chirping again in the cage. This was a secret signal to ask if she could be released. She had asked several times along the way, but Julius ignored her.
But now was the time to pay attention to her. The wizard walked over and lifted the cloth covering the cage.
"Stop yelling and stay still."
The normal-sized bird cage was already too crowded for Clara. She hugged her head with her hands and looked out curiously through the white copper wire. She was greatly disappointed by the environment in front of her.
There are less than four rooms here, including the bathroom, which is far inferior to all the places she has lived in before.
The corners of her mouth pulled down in disdain, revealing her lower fangs.
"Is this the green-haired guy's home?"
"This is not my home, this is where the old man lives! Ah, but he does have green hair too." Julius retorted subconsciously. He only came to Sasha City this summer and of course lived with Grone.
The forest spirit is not a human being, and the image that is publicly displayed is not even its true self, so when it decorated its house, it did not consider what humans would need to live here. Apart from the bed, there are no other facilities necessary for private life. Julius himself felt that this place was a bit shabby.
But he didn't have to pay rent, so he had no reason to complain.
"If this is not Green Hair's home, then where is Green Hair's home?" Clara asked.
The wizard's hand, which had been moving swiftly, suddenly stopped moving on the herb bag beside him, and his expression became uncertain.
"Home?" He tapped his fingers on the dry herbs and fell silent again.
He really didn't seem to have this thing, and he had never experienced it. Even when he saw the interaction between Uncle Bello and his nephew or other family members, he couldn't understand the concept of home.
Just like a blind person cannot understand the difference between colors.
"So do you have a home, little head?" he asked back.
Clara is proud: "Clara certainly has a family. Clara and her family devote everything to Heavenly Father."
Julius burst out laughing.
He relaxed. It was pointless to discuss what home was with a stupid little devil who didn't even know that she was unwelcome in Heavenly Father's sight. She thought that the holy war between the world and hell had failed and that everyone walking on the road was a heretic!
After all, since they can live well without a home, it means they don't really need it that much.
Julius opened the birdcage, and Clara squeezed out like an octopus in a bottle, and then walked on the table in a crab-like posture. He let this behavior go, and after sorting out the alchemical raw materials, he went back to his bedroom to sleep.
When he woke up again, his stomach was empty.
The wizard looked out the window with melancholy. It was already dark. Although there were still people walking on the street, they were all in a hurry, rushing home. Their wives must have prepared a delicious dinner for them.
This has nothing to do with Julius. No one cooks here and he doesn't know how to cook.
In the haze, he suddenly had an epiphany.
A house can only be called home if there is someone who can cook. "Let's go to the cafe again." If that's the case, the cafe is his new home.
Julius stuffed Clara, who was crawling on the ground, into the cage again and went home alone.
He arrived home with ease, bought a sandwich and a large cup of strong coffee with sugar and milk, and sat at a single table to sip slowly, thinking about what work he would get from Clayton next.
Grogne refused to give him any more money, so he had to earn his living on his own. Although the job of an antique dealer's assistant was stable, there was no chance of getting rich. One needed certain extraordinary factors to make a lot of money, and his experience in Geves could well prove this point.
Now, in order to leave Wonderland, Clayton Belleo has to be deeply involved with the Elder Council, and the little witch has to go to school, which also means more good opportunities.
And he, an expert in mysticism, will surely be able to demonstrate his true value.
Julius stayed in the house for two hours, until it closed and no longer allowed outsiders.
Sasha city at night is different from a month ago. Fewer people dare to go out at night, and it is not the sheriffs who appear on the streets to maintain order, but a large number of soldiers.
They wore black hats, black winter coats and boots, and only their belts were red. They held bright lanterns in their hands, long swords on the left side of their waists, flintlock pistols on the right, and black powder bottles, bullet bags and kettles on their waists.
These soldiers are not the half-brained guys like the Saviors. They react faster, are more focused, and can even be called sensitive.
They did not walk around the streets, but formed groups of three or four, guarding the intersections of multiple streets. Anyone with suspicious behavior would be stopped and checked. Workers who got off work late lined up at these checkpoints, their dark coats still smelling of whale oil, and they stamped their feet and rubbed their hands to keep themselves warm from time to time, or started smoking on the spot.
It looked like it was going to snow again, and the atmosphere was depressing everywhere.
Julius was also stopped by the soldiers during the inspection because they suspected him of smuggling through clothes full of pockets. He had to explain that he was actually a perfume merchant, and only then was he able to get away successfully.
But after passing the level, he fell into confusion again.
It seemed that he had no place he wanted to go.
Clara was still in Grogne's house, but he didn't think that was a good reason to go back there; it was better for the little devil to stay in the cage.
It was not a good idea to stay on the street. It was very cold outside, and there might be criminals hiding in the dark to attack passers-by like him. This was still a certain risk for the spellcaster.
After careful consideration, Julius headed towards the nearest Presbyterian stronghold.
He wanted to know the whereabouts of several people he had come into contact with recently.
Although he has been expelled from the Elders' Council, the people here will still help him for Grogne's sake.
The Elders have been collecting intelligence on the authors of the collection, and also keep records of those who have only collaborated once.
Such records are superficial, including only name, ethnicity and contact information.
However, in most cases, this level of record keeping is sufficient.
The archivist "Folentin" squinted his eyes and traced overlapping lines on the document with his fingers. It took him half a minute to finally find the information he wanted, and then he breathed a sigh of relief: "He's dead. I remember this address. We have records of transporting the body there."
"So fast?" Julius was surprised.
The archivist said lightly, "There's nothing we can do. He is cursed. Most cursed people die very quickly. Even if they are not killed by the curse, they will commit suicide out of pain."
"Is there anything else you want to check?" he asked considerately.
"No."
Julius left the base and headed towards Barbara's address in the city.
She had been chopped to pieces by Clayton Bellow not long ago, and she might have held a grudge against him, but that had nothing to do with Julius. He visited her purely out of the desire to see someone he knew.
Fortunately, the female friend had not left home and the lights were still on in the house.
This is the so-called slum area. The houses around here are very short. They might be the "special houses" sold to dwarves by real estate developers in the past. Because the floor area and building height have been compressed, but the selling price has not been lowered, the dwarves collectively boycotted them and eventually they were rented out to the poor.
Here, leaving the lights on at ten o'clock at night is a luxury that can easily attract the attention of thieves, but the female vampire is definitely no longer afraid of this.
The wizard walked to the door and knocked, and someone came to open it immediately.
The person who opened the door was a handsome young man with blond hair and red eyes, and his facial features were somewhat similar to Barbara's. He looked at Julius suspiciously, sure that he had never seen this stranger with long hair of a strange color before.
Julius raised his chin: "Is Ms. Barbara here?"
The young man who opened the door stared at his hair and said, "I'm her son. What do you want from her?"
"Just bringing greetings from some companions." The wizard was vague. He actually hadn't figured out what he was here for. Maybe he just wanted to see what others were doing so that he could find a decent reference for himself.
While the young man was still hesitating, Barbara's voice was heard from the room.
"Is that Mr. Julius? Please ask him to come in."
