Even when you are an employee, as long as you can afford the liquidated damages, you can break the contract and run away at any time. This amounts to a new form of self-redemption.

Moreover, the Ming Dynasty banned the trading of skin and flesh, and would carry out anti-pornography operations every now and then. Once caught, there would be a fine.
