Chapter 9 Chapter 9. Friends of the Opposite Sex

Chapter 9 9. Friends of the opposite sex

Annan woke up early in the morning and had to face a fact.

The slip of paper is gone, and the drawing board is gone.

The latch was securely hung, and Martin was still sleeping soundly with the quilt in between.Undoubtedly, listening to the faint noise coming from outside, it was known that the ghost had come again last night and had taken the drawing board with it.

That was the first gift Annan received, which is very memorable.

Annan woke Martin up, and the dazed guy put on his clothes and fell back on the bed.

Not long after, old Zoren came over and said that today was the last day—I don’t know if he would say it again with his scarlet eyes at night.

Old Zoren proved his determination with his actions - he dragged his lame leg and followed into the gold mine.

Annan didn't have that much pressure. Anyway, the ghost took the drawing board, indicating that it liked the painting.Maybe it was in the mine waiting to lead them to unexplored mines.

"Which hole do you think will produce ore?"

Annan casually pointed at the mine from yesterday, but old Zolun actually obeyed and urged him to leave quickly.

They returned to the depression they dug yesterday and continued digging.Old Zolun chiseled a few times, and became a supervisor because of the pain in his lame leg.

Old Zoren's encouragement influenced Martin, and he worked much harder than usual.Annan was powerless, and old Zuolun didn't criticize him, but whenever Annan rested, his legs would shake anxiously and lame.

Annan had no choice but to continue.Tiredness gradually deformed his posture. When he swung the pickaxe again, the pickaxe scraped across the rock wall, splashing sparks, and the loose pickaxe fell off the wooden handle, rubbing Annan's face and Martin's scalp and flying towards old Zoren.

Thankfully, he was holding the pickaxe as a crutch. The bounced pickaxe just hit it, changed the angle and jumped up to the top of the rock, knocked down a rock, and ended its naughty life.

The falling stone hit Martin's head impartially.

"I didn't plan in my life to be prepared to suffer this..." Martin mumbled, covering his head, not noticing that Annan was staring at old Zoren, and old Zoren was staring at his feet.

Under the light of the oil lamp, the falling stones shone with a dark golden luster, while the pale silhouette flashed away in the darkness.

Old Zolun rushed forward to pick up the stone, forgetting that he was almost crushed to death, and urged Martin and Annan to quickly dig it.

Martin raised the pick and barely touched the roof of the cave. After complaining a few words, he began to throw the pick.

Old Zoren ducked into the distance with unprecedented agility.

Not knowing whether to feel good luck or bad luck, they got nothing for the next few hours. No veins were found, and the ore that happened to fall might just have been missed.

bang——

Martin put down his pickaxe and sat down beside old Zoren to rest.

The percussion went away along the deep mine, and when it came back, it was surrounded by muddy noises.

"Did you hear?"

Annan looked at the depths of the mine in doubt.

"Did you hear that?" Martin rubbed his stomach, "My stomach is growling again."

"no……"

Annan listened carefully, and the noise different from the chiseling sound did not disappear.

He put down the pickaxe and drilled out of the sidewalk mine.Standing in the main mine, the noisy sound gradually became clear, it was a chaos mixed with shouting, screaming and running.

Realizing that something had happened, Annan ran back to the mine, letting Martin drag the old Zoren who was hugging the ore, and followed the miners who ran out from the depths.

Oil lamps cast halo on the chaotic shadows, and Annan led Martin and old Zoren against the rock wall to avoid falling or colliding.

During the period, Annan heard the faint barking of dogs, awakening the shadow not long ago-the wandering kobolds.

How did the kobolds get mixed up with the undead?
The glimmer of the exit appeared ahead. They and the miners ran out of the gold mine before the kobolds caught up.

For two consecutive days, the miners were once again driven out of the gold mine.

The foremen gathered in the camp to meditate again, and the miners began to refuse to enter the mine.Annan and Martin followed the old Zolun to crush the ore brought back, smelt it, and burned a gold grain smaller than a fingernail.

Just enough for old Zoren to pay his fee and make a small fortune--about a little more than a silver coin.It was equivalent to old Zuolen receiving his own salary.

At least not returning empty-handed.

When they got back to camp, the foreman hadn't agreed on what to do.

If it were Gnolls or hordes of ghosts, they would definitely give up without hesitation. The haunted gold mines have long since dried up, and it's not worth the risk they're taking. But the deterrence brought by the kobolds, two first-level creatures that can't beat an adult, is insufficient.

More importantly, the kobolds have the profession of miners, and like the dragons, they like to collect golden things. If they find the kobolds' lair...

It seems that only money can be added. But this has nothing to do with Annan and the others.

Annan persuaded the old Zoren to give up his unrealistic fantasy and got a salary: he and Martin each had 1 silver coin and 40 copper coins.

"Remember our agreement, cousin."

As Martin spoke, he hid 20 copper coins in feet that hadn't been washed for several days and shoes that hadn't been washed for dozens of days.

Not sure which unlucky guy will get them.

Annan promised Martin, ran out of the hut, found the half tauren in a secluded forest, told him that he was going back, and reminded him to be careful of ghosts and kobolds.

"My name is Annan."

"Tasia," said the half-tauren.

"Female name?" Annan sensed the question.

"What do you think?"

Unable to offend, Annan looked for Tasia's femininity, so he had to go over the topic and say goodbye to her: "Uh... hope we can meet again."

Meeting Martin, when he left the camp, he looked back, and Tasia, the half-tauren under the tree, was still looking at him.

Back to town with regret and loss.As he approached Aunt Susan's house, his mood gradually recovered, and he saw the familiar burly silhouette in an apron.

"Aunt Susan!"

Martin, who hadn't come home for several days, threw himself at Aunt Susan excitedly.

"Oh my little Annan, look at how thin and dirty you are—" Aunt Susan pushed Martin away and took Annan into her arms, "Look at your hands, it really hurts Aunt Susan..."

Because Annan and Martin came back, today's dinner was much richer.Aunt Susan boiled some hot water and told the boys to wash up.

Martin got out after soaking, and Annan soaked for a while to relieve his fatigue. When he came out, he found that the atmosphere at the dining table was not right.

Uncle Huo Lin shrank in his seat, like an audience waiting for the show to start, while Martin stood by and winked at him desperately.

"Little Annan, tell auntie, how much money did you get?"

"40 copper coins per day, what's the matter, Aunt Susan?" Annan tilted his head in confusion.

"Thank you, little Annan."

Aunt Susan grabbed the broom and approached the terrified Martin.

……

Mr. Fast is three days away from returning. If counting the begging before being picked up by Aunt Susan, Annan has already lost three jobs.

"Little Annan, do you want to go out to play tomorrow?" Aunt Susan asked Annan lovingly after cleaning up Martin.

Annan wants to say that he is not a child, but he really needs to recover after staying in the depressive mine for a long time.

"And me?"

Martin, who was tying the broken broom back together, looked up and asked.

"Chop the firewood that has accumulated in the past few days!"
