Chapter 1

"Dad, Dad, Qiqi has a fever and can't retreat!" A skinny boy hurriedly ran towards a drunk man who smelled of alcohol.

The man pushed the boy away in a daze, leaned against the door frame, picked up the wine jar with one hand and took another swig, and said in a rough voice, "Don't bother me."

"Brother." Weak calls came from the back room, like the whimpering of a dying animal.

The boy hurriedly turned around and ran towards the direction of the sound, nearly tripping over the threshold, and hurried forward to hug the little ball on the bed, "Qi Qi, my brother is here, don't cry, don't cry."

The voice in his arms gradually weakened, leaving only a low sob.

The boy hugged the thin little girl in a small quilt, and walked cautiously towards the door.

When he came to a house, the boy shook his black hair that blocked his sight, and shouted into the house, "Grandpa Jack, Grandpa Jack! Are you inside?"

With a creak, the door was opened, and a hale and hearty old man came out, "Little San, what happened?"

"Grandpa Jack, can you take care of Qiqi for me? She has a fever and can't get rid of it. I want to go to the mountain to pick some herbs."

Hearing this, Old Jack quickly took the little doll from Tang San's arms, "Don't worry, Xiao Qi is fine with me, and Xiao San, you should be careful yourself, don't worry too much, it's fine."

Seeing that old Jack hugged Xiaotuan well, Tang San hastily turned to look for herbs.

Old Jack looked at Tang San's hurried figure, sighed, turned and went back to the house.

This Tang Qi's father, Tang Hao, was too irresponsible. Tang Qi was already sick, so he didn't care about it.

Gently put the child in his arms on the bed, tucked in the quilt, turned around and went out, wet the towel, carefully placed it on Tang Qi's forehead, and went out again, planning to boil some hot water for preparation.

When Tang San came back, Old Jack's cold towel had been changed again and again.

Seeing Tang Qi's pale face, Tang San borrowed the kitchen from Old Jack and hurried to make medicine.

Old Jack replaced the towel on Tang Qi's forehead again, turned around and came to the kitchen, "Little San has hot water, you can wipe it and stay with Xiao Qi. After you left, Xiao Qi kept calling you, here I come Just help you watch."

Tang San pursed his lips, "Thank you, Grandpa Jack, then I'll go and see Xiao Qi, just boil these into a bowl of water, please forgive me." After wiping his hands, he hurried to take care of Tang Qi.

Noticing Tang Qi's chapped lips, Tang San quickly poured a cup of warm water from the table, helped Tang Qi up from the bed and fed a little water to wet his lips, then put his face against Tang Qi's pale face, frowning. I frowned, it was still hot.

Gently pulled Tang Qi down, put down the cup in his hand, and sat quietly by the bed, testing the temperature from time to time, and then replaced the hot towel.

"Little San, the medicine is ready, wake up your sister quickly, the temperature is just right now."

Tang San blinked, carefully helped Tang Qi up, took the medicine from Old Jack's hand, and called softly, "Qiqi, wake up, we'll be fine after drinking the medicine."

Old Jack silently took away the towel beside him, looked at Tang San with reddened eyes, and walked out quietly.

"Qiqi, Qiqi, can you drink it, brother please."

As soon as Old Jack walked in with a changed towel, he saw Tang Qi spit out all the medicine he drank, and a tear fell quietly.

Tang Qi felt the coolness on her face, and rubbed against Tang San in a daze, "Brother, don't cry, Qi Qi is obedient."

Leaning against Tang San, Tang Qi reluctantly drank the remaining half bowl of medicine, her small face wrinkled in pain, she buried her head in Tang San's neck with aggrievedness, and fell asleep again drowsily.

Rubbing Tang Qi's head, Tang San put Tang Qi away, finally heaving a sigh of relief.

Old Jack stepped forward and put the changed towel on Tang Qi's head again, "Little San, you should sleep in too. It's already afternoon, I'll help you guard Qiqi."

Tang San shook his head, staring at Tang Qi without blinking, "I want to look at Qiqi, Grandpa Jack, go and have a rest."

"I'm going to have a look at the vegetable garden, and talk to your father about something, then you take good care of your sister." Old Jack patted Tang San's shoulder, heard Tang San humming lightly, turned and walked out the door.

Old Jack looked back at Tang San's small figure, finally just shook his head, and took the door out.

As the sky was getting darker, Old Jack came back at dusk, and asked worriedly, "Xiao San, has Xiao Qi's fever subsided?"

Tang San shook his head silently.

A gust of cold wind blew outside the window, and the dead leaves gradually fell along with the cold wind. Old Jack hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Little San, your father is not at home, so you can stay at Grandpa Jack's place tonight, okay?" After a pause, "Xiao Qi's fever hasn't subsided yet, I can take care of you even if you are here."

Tang San lowered his eyes, tightened the hands beside Tang Qi, and responded in a low voice, "Okay."

Two days later, the sun shone through the windows into the house, bringing a touch of warmth.

Old Jack knocked on the door, and walked in with a bowl of porridge, "Xiao San, has Xiao Qi's fever gone?"

Tang San looked haggard, his eyes were bloodshot, "I don't have a fever, but Qiqi has been coughing, and..."

"Brother, where did Dad go, hasn't he come back?" Tang Qi asked Tang San with a hoarse voice.

Tang San's face froze, he didn't know how to answer, he said slowly, "Dad will be back soon."

The light in Tang Qi's eyes dimmed, and the tears fell unconsciously. Does Dad really dislike me that much? Thinking about it, he suddenly felt chest tightness, a little out of breath, and began to cough intermittently, coughing up his whole face flushed.

Tang San quickly hugged Tang Qi in his arms, patted his back lightly, "Qi Qi, relax, relax."

Old Jack also quickly poured a glass of warm water and handed it to Tang San, wanting Tang Qi to drink some warm water to slow down, then left the room, leaving the room for the two brothers and sisters.

Tang San hummed an unknown ballad, seeing Tang Qi calm down, Tang San still hugged Tang Qi, wanting to give Tang Qi more warmth.

The two cuddled each other like this, sitting quietly, the sun slowly walked towards the two, "Qiqi, brother is going outside to collect medicine for you, please stay at home and wait for brother to get well."

Hearing this, Tang Qi hugged Tang San tightly, while shaking his head, tears fell drop by drop, and choked up a small milk voice, "I don't want it, brother, don't leave me alone, okay, I will be obedient of."

"It's very dangerous there, Qiqi is obedient, okay." Tang San patted Tang Qi's back lightly, his voice slightly astringent, "Qiqi is not in good health now, that place is far away, what if something happens."

"Qiqi knows that Qiqi's health is very bad now, but brother, please don't leave Qiqi alone." Tang Qi buried her head tightly in Tang San's arms, her voice was crying, "As long as you can follow brother, what should I do?" Don’t be afraid, don’t leave me alone, okay, don’t leave me.”

Tang San coaxed Tang Qi in his arms, and the two sat quietly like this, only Tang Qi could be heard whimpering like a young animal.
