The Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng was illiterate, and he set up a teaching to pass on outsiders. Isn't this contrary to the entrustment of "I heard it as I heard" left by the Buddha before his death?
Zen Master Shenxiu heard Shen Youzhi's doubts, and replied with a smile: "Buddhas have a past and a future, teachings have internal and external, and there is no difference in reason!

Brother Huineng imprints his heart with his heart, but does not write words.

The World Honored One also said, it cannot be said.

Shen Youzhi couldn't help being surprised after listening to Zen Master Shenxiu's words. It seems that this Zen Master Shenxiu admired the Sixth Patriarch Huineng so much that he even ranked him with Shakyamuni!
According to Shenxiu, the principles of heaven and earth are actually the same, and there is no difference. It is just because there are differences in the people who explore the principles, so the words used to express the principles are also different.

In other words, the principles enlightened by Shakyamuni Buddha and Hui Neng are actually the same, but the individual expression is different, so there is a distinction between internal and external.

It is precisely because Sakyamuni left behind the four words "I heard it as it is" that Huineng's method is called "a biography outside the teaching".

Because there is actually no difference between the two, it's just that people of later generations forcibly distinguish between internal and external.

Sakyamuni's "unspoken" and Huineng's "inspire the heart, not words" are actually pursuing the essential laws of all things and trying to avoid the interference of appearances.

It's just that this kind of profound insight that directly points to the essence cannot be possessed by anyone, not even by most people.

That's why the Sixth Patriarch Huineng said: "My method is to guide people with upper-upper roots."

It means that the method of epiphany can only be comprehended by those with the highest aptitude.

What is the ultimate qualification?

It is an enlightened person who has received the wisdom bestowed by heaven, each of whom can establish a sect, that is, a person who "establishes a heart for the heaven and earth, and a life for the people".

Such a person is rare in a thousand years.

Therefore, there are two kinds of people who come out of the epiphany school most often.

One is an enlightened person like the Sixth Patriarch Huineng who has received the wisdom bestowed by heaven.

The other kind is that I don’t have the supreme wisdom of Hui Neng, and I don’t want to gradually realize the painstaking practice like Shenxiu. I watch Zen meditation all day long, but my heart is very empty, except for a sentence of “Amitabha”. A fake monk who doesn't understand.

As for which kind of people are more and which kind of people are less, it is self-evident.

As far as Shen Youzhi knows, after the Sixth Patriarch Huineng, the only person who can obtain this sudden enlightenment is the Zen Master Jigong, whose Dharma name is "Daoji".

"Listening to Zen Master's lecture today is very rewarding, thank you for your enlightenment!"

Zen Master Shenxiu said with a slight smile, "My Dharma is only a trivial study.

The Taoist priest's future method should be the supreme magic method! "
