The healer couldn't see Antal's wound, and Laszlo sewed up the place where the dagger had pierced, with reluctant and clumsy efforts. When he was done, Antal made him swear that he would never tell anyone about it.
"Speak like I know what happened to you." The attendant shook his head.
"I'm not kidding, Laszlo," Antar snapped at him, "I swear!"
"I swear." He nodded, but didn't like it at all.
Lily Knight didn't say a word, put on a white cloak symbolizing purity, and was about to leave when his attendant whispered behind him. "You're with her again, aren't you?" he asked darkly.
"leave me alone."
"But I care!" Laszlo raised his voice and stopped the knight, "I have endured it until now, Antal, I have endured all the stupid things you do!"
"You endured it, didn't you?" the knight growled, taking a deep breath, his eyes bloodshot from insomnia. "Okay, then continue to endure, because you are my servant, not my master!"
"Damn it, what's the matter with you?" Laszlo grabbed Antal's clothes, "I'm your friend, always have been! But you forgot again! You're always self-righteous, and that's your problem! "
The meaning of Laszlo's words did not reach Antal's ears.He was too tired, too angry, and too afraid of the consequences of his actions to argue with anyone. He grabbed the squire by the wrist and tore his friend's hand from him.
"Get out of the way!" He looked over, "What happened on the island has nothing to do with you!"
"Ah, so your business has nothing to do with me!" Laszlo shouted into his face, "I am a nobody, but if you are hurt, I will apply ointment and sew up your puncture wound I'm just your fart squire, you only think I'm good when everyone else is gone or dead!"
Antal punched the squire in the face, but even he couldn't end the argument.Laszlo was truly enraged at this moment. He lowered his head and grabbed the knight's waist. Antar hammered his back while pushing open the door, and the two fell to the ground one after the other.Laszlo wanted to sit on his chest and slap him, but the knight quickly realized his intentions, after all he had attacked Zoutermont in the same way the night before, so he rolled aside in time.
He got up quickly, kicked the servant who was about to stand up with the sole of his boot, and kicked him down on the edge of the bed. Then he made Laszlo stand up and just looked at each other with clenched fists.
They glared and stared tremblingly at each other for a long time.At last Laszlo hastily unfastened the belt of his weapon, upon which hung the Saracen sword he had received from Antar, and left him on the ground in rage, so that the knight's heart sank.
"Even if you drag me to the ground and beat me up, I won't regret what I tell you now," Laszlo growled, "Listen to me!"
"What?" Antal asked in a trembling voice.
"Shove your gift up your ass, you idiot!"
Laszlo spit a mouthful of bloody saliva on the ground, opened the door, and rushed out of the corridor, disappearing from Antal's sight.
—
It was not until late at night that the two of them calmed down. The knight found his swollen-faced squire tending to the horses in the royal stables, feeding and drinking them, cleaning and grooming them all.The horses reassured him, as they always did, and Laszlo was still as at home among them as he had been as a child.
When Antar entered the stables, the attendants noticed him but did not speak to him.Neither of them knew what to say to the other, and the knight cleared his throat and held out the Saracen sword to his friend.
"Instead of sticking it in my ass, it's more useful in your scabbard," Antal said guiltily.
"You idiot." Laszlo shook his head, but accepted Antar's apology. He took the sword, put it back in its belt sheath, and turned back to the horse he was taking care of.
"Last night," Antal bit his lip and said softly, "I killed someone."
"You've killed hundreds of people," the attendant looked at him with a twinkle in his eyes. "Can this time be any different?"
The knight hesitated for a moment, but not wanting to hide any details from Laszlo, he vowed to tell his friend the whole truth no matter what.
"I killed him with my bare hands," Antar confessed, "we fought for a long time, I was naked and unarmed, and he stabbed me with a dagger, but it was not fatal. I chased him for a long time, to the river, I finally got hold of him, I threw a rock at his head and he fell flat, and..."
Speaking of this, he suddenly stopped and fell into silence. He dared not look directly at his friend, his eyes fixed on the ground.Laszlo stopped cleaning the horses, turned around, and waited with his arms folded.
"And then?" Laszlo asked.
"Then...I knelt on his chest and hit him on the head with...another rock," Antar stammered, as if he only now realized what he had done. "I smashed him up...totally...like...like an egg..."
"My God!" Laszlo grabbed his shoulders. "What did you do after that? Where did you bury his body?"
"I didn't bury him, I stuffed his clothes with rocks and dragged him into the Danube."
"Look at me, Antal!" Laszlo shook him, "Who is that man?"
"A...a Templar..."
"Who?"
"Zotmon." Antal replied briefly.
"Zoutermund? Zoutermond what?"
"Zoutermont, who was supposed to have been killed by William four years ago, the man we thought was dead, I must finish what I have left unfinished."
"Does anyone know about this?"
"No one else knew except Agnes," Antal said. "Zotmon found us on the island at night, and when he tried to escape, we noticed him. I... I didn't have a choice."
Antal then told the attendants everything that happened in the monastery. He told the terrible story of the oath-broken knight, and how Abbot Ambrosius had concealed from him who the old man really was.He also told how Zortmund cursed him and Sarecher, and Laszlo sighed deeply and shrugged his shoulders when he heard the whole story.
"He's a rogue through and through, no doubt about it, a villain from hell." He nodded, then turned to the mare he'd interrupted to groom her.
"Is that all?" Antal froze for a moment and asked. "Is that your opinion?"
"My opinion is that you were right to smash his head out," Laszlo said. "He was a friend of the devil, he cursed you, he said it himself, he was aided by the devil. He deserved his death." , but if I were you, I would have told the abbot about these things a long time ago, so that your hands would not be stained with blood, and I believe he would be burned to death at the stake..."
Antar stared at his friend as if he were Baal Zebub alive. He couldn't say a word, Laszlo's words took him by surprise. The scariest thing was that deep down in his soul he wished for more sympathy and caring after telling his friend all the truth.
When Laszlo started whistling happily beside the mare, Antar decided it was best to turn around and leave as soon as possible.
