Chapter 664: Buddha and Mahavairocana, the Ultimate State of Becoming a Deity or Buddha
Chapter 664: Buddha and Mahavairocana, the Ultimate State of Becoming a Deity or Buddha
"The relationship between Sakyamuni and Mahavairocana?"
The young monk Jiekong was puzzled and asked, "Why did the young Taoist ask this question?"
"It was a sudden inspiration." Zhang Zhiwei said.
"Is the little master very interested in Buddhist knowledge?" asked the young monk Jiekong.
"I'm a little interested!" Zhang Zhiwei nodded.
Hearing that Zhang Zhiwei, the young Taoist priest, was interested in Buddhist knowledge, Jie Kong was very happy and immediately began to explain it to Zhang Zhiwei.
He first talked about Sakyamuni.
Sakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism, the Buddha, the World Honored One, the Tathagata, the Great Arhat...
His status in Buddhism is almost equal to that of Zhang Daoling, the founder of Taoism, or even higher.
As for his supernatural powers and deeds, it would take three days and three nights to describe them all.
The most well-known of these is the one on which Sakyamuni was born. He took seven steps to the east, south, west and north, pointed to the sky and said, "I am the only one who is supreme in heaven and on earth."
The young monk Jiekong recommended to Zhang Zhiwei a bunch of Buddhist scriptures that recorded the deeds of Sakyamuni, such as "The Sutra of Past and Present Cause and Effect", "The Sutra of the Origin of Practice", "The Sutra of the Buddha's Original Practices", etc.
Afterwards, he told Zhang Zhiwei about Vairocana Tathagata.
There is a saying in Buddhism that every Buddha has three bodies: Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya.
Among them, the reward body Buddha is called Vairocana Buddha, which is the form after becoming a Buddha after arduous practice and realizing the truth. It is an objective existence.
The Sambhogakaya Buddha is also known as the Incarnation Buddha, called Sakyamuni Buddha. He is the transformation body of Buddha. In order to teach sentient beings, Buddha will manifest himself in various life forms, and the transformed image is the incarnation.
The identity of Sakyamuni is one of the incarnations of Buddha. Since Sakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism and the master, the incarnation Buddha is named after him.
The Dharmakaya Buddha is called Vairocana Buddha, which represents Buddhism itself, the absolute truth of all things, and the Buddha nature in the hearts of all living beings.
Among them, because "Vairocana" is translated as omnipresent, which means light shining everywhere, the Tantric Buddhism translates Vairocana Buddha as Mahavairocana Buddha.
In short, Vairocana Tathagata is the Dharmakaya Buddha, representing all truth. In Buddhism, it is more like the embodiment of a rule.
Among the three bodies of Buddha, there are thousands and millions of incarnations.
Someone like Li Xiuyuan can be considered the incarnation of Jigong.
The bald monk who appears in Journey to the West is the incarnation of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
There are thousands of reward bodies, such as Guanyin Bodhisattva, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Maitreya Buddha, Dipamkara Buddha, Medicine King Buddha, etc. These are all Vairocana Buddha, that is, the reward body Buddha.
But there is only one Vairocana Tathagata, the Dharmakaya Buddha, and it is unique.
All Buddhas, all Bodhisattvas, all Arhats, all Vajras... and even all Buddhist practitioners, their dharmakaya is Vairocana Tathagata.
It is a rule, a Buddhist principle, and a truth similar to one plus one equals two. As long as you study Buddhism, you will be included in it.
Zhang Zhiwei's previous knowledge of Buddhism was fragmentary. He knew a lot of different Buddhas, but knew very little about the connections between them.
Now that he understood, he suddenly knew what the scene he had seen before was about.
That is the Dharmakaya of the Buddhas and Buddhist practitioners, or their subjective nature. These Dharmakayas are pieced together to form a whole, which is the Vairocana Tathagata.
Or to put it another way, their dharmakayas were assimilated into the body of Vairocana Tathagata, and they maintained their own immortality through Vairocana Tathagata.
Vairocana Tathagata is their carrier. Without this carrier, the Dharma body with an unclear face like that of Master Kuruo would absolutely not exist.
While they are being carried by Vairocana Tathagata, they are also making Vairocana Tathagata bigger and bigger.
This seems to be a mutually beneficial process, but not everyone can achieve success.
For example, for someone like Master Kuruo whose cultivation is not very high, even if his Dharma body is preserved by relying on Vairocana Tathagata, he will not have any complete subjective consciousness left.
It is a pure nutrient. From this perspective, it is no different from the sacred tree on Nathan Island.
Vairocana Tathagata is the sacred tree, and all other dharmakayas are just the holy forest that constructs the sacred tree.
The only difference is that the form it presents is not as cruel as the Nathan Sacred Tree, but the underlying logic is the same.
This conclusion is absolutely shocking.
However, Zhang Zhiwei already knew about all of this, so he was not too surprised. He was also not like the black magician White, who lost his faith after knowing the secret and died without any resistance.
Zhang Zhiwei was very calm. There was no fluctuation in his thinking and he was thinking calmly.
"In the common understanding of Buddhism, Mahavairocana transcends ordinary human cognition and consciousness. It is the embodiment of the wisdom of the root of all things in the universe, representing wisdom and compassion. It does not have human consciousness or emotions."
"This is somewhat similar to Azathoth in the Cthulhu mythology. Azathoth is the source of all gods. It represents absolute blindness and stupidity. In the eyes of ordinary people, it has no wisdom, no thinking, and no fixed image. It is just a cruel cosmic essence."
"And Vairocana is more like the opposite of Azathoth."
"Wisdom is to foolishness, compassion is to blindness and disorder."
But a doubt arose in Zhang Zhiwei's heart, "Is the Great Sun Tathagata really just an absolute rule without thoughts or consciousness?"
At this time, Master Henglin finished regulating his breathing and saw Zhang Zhiwei in deep thought. He smiled and said:
"Little Heavenly Master just asked about the Buddha and Mahavairocana. Did he want to ask about the relationship between them?"
Zhang Zhiwei paused and said with a smile, "After listening to the master's talk about Buddhism and reading the master's ordination, I am a little curious."
When these words were spoken, many people around were shocked. In front of the Heavenly Master, he claimed to be interested in Buddhist things. Is the little Heavenly Master going to become a little abbot?
They all looked at Zhang Jingqing, wanting to know how he would react.
Zhang Jingqing looked at his nose with his eyes and his heart with his nose, without any expression, and took it calmly.
When Master Henglin was imparting ordination to him earlier, he closed his eyes out of respect. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to look at anything inappropriate, but because he was different from Zhang Zhiwei.
Zhang Zhiwei could stare and even peek, but he couldn't. He had the guidance of the Heavenly Master. If he were to be like Zhang Zhiwei, it would be a meeting between two kings.
So he didn't know what Zhang Zhiwei saw.
But from Zhang Zhiwei's question, he vaguely guessed something.
As a Heavenly Master, he naturally understands everything about Buddhism.
He thought to himself that his disciple was a little restless. Some things were not so easy to spy on. If he hadn't been here, you would have been punished for your offense...
Even Zhang Jingqing, a bystander, could guess roughly what it was, not to mention Master Henglin, the one who transmitted the ordination.
However, he was not angry. Even the Buddha was not angry, so why should he be angry?
"All Buddhism started with Sakyamuni Buddha, so Sakyamuni Buddha is called the master. As for the relationship between the two..."
Master Henglin said slowly: "So the nectar has one taste, but its color varies according to the vessel. The Mani has one appearance, but its shadow varies according to the color. The mind that can speak is equal when it turns, but the meaning it moistens is different when it is interpreted. The One, Three, and Five Vehicles all originate from the same sect. The Dharma, Retribution, and Response are the same in essence but different in function."
After that, he said no more.
Although what Master Henglin said was a little obscure, Zhang Zhiwei still understood it.
What he meant was that Mahavairocana and Sakyamuni are the same Buddhas, and the two Buddhas have the same body, but they are used in different ways. But this involves a question of which came first, the chicken or the egg.
The Buddha existed first.
Or Vairocana Tathagata came first.
Since Sakyamuni came first, that means Vairocana Tathagata was attained by Sakyamuni. If he could attain it, people in later generations could also attain it.
If Mahavairocana existed first, and all the Dharmas were born out of nothingness, then there would be a problem...
At this time, Zhang Jingqing, who had been silent, suddenly glanced at Master Henglin and thought, this old bald donkey clearly knows it, but he is still trying to be clever. What is he trying to do?
He added: "The three bodies of the Buddha are the Dharmakaya Vairocana Buddha, the Sambhogakaya Vairocana Buddha, and the Nirmanakaya Sakyamuni Buddha."
"Among them, the name of the reward body 'Lushena' is actually the abbreviation of the Dharma body 'Vairocana'."
"When Shakyamuni Buddha named his Sambhogakaya and Dharmakaya, he gave them the same name, indicating that Dharma and Sambhogakaya are one and the same."
As soon as Zhang Jingqing said this, Zhang Zhiwei was no longer confused.
Buddhism says that the Dharmakaya is an omnipresent rule and an eternal Buddhist principle.
The reward body is the Buddhahood achieved through practice.
Shakyamuni gave his Dharmakaya and Sambhogakaya the same name. Doesn't this just illustrate that the Dharmakaya, like the Sambhogakaya, is not innate, but is obtained through his enlightenment?
"No wonder I saw all the Buddhas in Mahavairocana's body before, but didn't see the existence of Sakyamuni Buddha. It turns out that it was him. He is the Trinity!"
"In this case, Mahavairocana must have his own subjective consciousness."
"Although it may not be visible at ordinary times, just like the rules, we cannot say that it does not exist."
Immediately, Zhang Zhiwei thought of something terrible.
“And what would happen if one day, Mahavairocana manifested in the material world like the Nasen sacred tree?!”
You have to know that the sacred tree is only on the tiny island of Nasen Island, but it is that big.
And the scope of Buddhism is thousands of times larger than that of Nasen Island.
Zhang Zhiwei suddenly understood why Taoism and Confucianism had joined forces to deceive Buddhism many times in history.
Like the beginning of the Three Wus and One Zong's campaign to destroy Buddhism, the Northern Wei Emperor Taiwu Tuoba Tao was originally a Buddhist and even promoted Buddhism in the country.
But later, he met Kou Qianzhi, a great priest from the Taoist Tianshi Temple.
Under the influence of this great priest, he began to believe in Taoism, appointed Kou Qianzhi as the national teacher, and also ordained him as a Taoist priest.
At that time, his prime minister was named Cui Hao, from the Qinghe Cui family. He was a great scholar at the time and was proficient in various mathematical techniques.
Two men with the surname Cui, one Taoist and one Confucian, joined forces to dig a huge grave for Buddhism, destroying 4,000 temples, killing 50,000 monks, and dismissing millions of monks.
At first glance, it seems that the other two religions are somewhat unkind and too xenophobic, but now that I think about it, it is not difficult to understand.
After all, if you continue to develop endlessly, what a terrifying monster will emerge? !
Then, Zhang Zhiwei remembered a word that appeared many times in the plot - population red line.
The official statement is that the increase in the Inhuman population will lead to a stronger sense of racial cohesion among the Inhumans, leading to conflicts with ordinary people.
Strictly speaking, this is actually very untenable.
The Inhumans are not the mutants in the X-Men.
Except for a very small number of innate extraordinary people, the vast majority of extraordinary people are ordinary people who have practiced. Once the next generation does not practice, or does not have the talent for practice, they will become ordinary people.
There may be a sense of superiority between aliens and ordinary people, but how does racial consciousness arise?
If we strictly control the red line just for this reason, it would be a bit far-fetched.
But if... all religions, even many great sects that can reach the sky, are systems like the sacred tree on Nathan Island...
Then it is necessary to set a red line.
No one knows what will happen to a Vairocana Tathagata that expands to the extreme.
But the sacred tree of Nathan, which had not yet expanded to its full potential, single-handedly caused Rome to decline.
The extent of the stakes involved can be seen from this.
……
……
"Little Master, do you have any questions?"
Master Henglin said, "The Tiantai Sect is in a state of disrepair right now, so we don't want to disturb you. If you still have any questions, we can go to the inn at the foot of the mountain and discuss in detail!"
"Thank you for your kindness, Master. I have no doubts anymore!" Zhang Zhiwei politely declined Master Henglin.
Master Henglin put his palms together and said, "Well done, well done. In that case, I will take my leave from you all now!"
After saying this, he did not stay for long and left Tiantai Sect with the young monk Jiekong.
When everyone saw Master Henglin leaving, they did not try to keep him. The dismemberment of the Tiantai Sect was actually a shameful thing for Master Henglin, the abbot of the Zen Buddhism. They couldn't just drag him down to have a drink.
After Master Henglin left, everyone naturally did not want to stay in Tiantai Sect and bring bad luck, so they all followed him down the mountain.
Patriarch Wang, Patriarch Lu, Master Hutu and others originally wanted to hold a banquet at the foot of the mountain to celebrate their success.
But Zhang Jingqing took Zhang Zhiwei away.
After all, on the surface, it was Zhang Zhiwei's own initiative to come to the Tiantai Sect, and Zhang Jingqing did not agree with it.
Now that the victory was over, if Zhang Jingqing stayed to attend the celebration banquet with everyone else, what would it look like if this got out?
Even if it was just for show, he had to scold Zhang Zhiwei and then take him away.
Since the protagonist Zhang Zhiwei had been taken away, there was naturally no need to continue the celebration banquet.
After some pleasantries, everyone went back home.
When they returned, all the sects were very excited. They didn't contribute much in this operation, but the rewards were quite rich.
First, on the eve of going to the mountain, most of the younger generation received guidance from the young master.
Second, after going up the mountain, I listened to the Zen abbot Master Henglin’s lectures on Buddhism.
Third, when they were leaving, the little Taoist thanked them and said that if they had any problems in the future, as long as they did not violate morality and were fair, they could ask him for help. This was exactly what they wanted on this trip.
Isn't the Jianghu all about fighting and killing? Isn't the Jianghu all about human relationships and worldly wisdom? This time I responded to your call, next time I'm in trouble, it's your turn to respond to my call.
The Little Master is definitely a card that can turn the tables, and it is no exaggeration to say that he is a king bomb.
Of course, the prerequisite is that the cards in your hand must be correct, otherwise you will be the one to be blown up.
