Chapter 1188 Waste Utilization
Chapter 1188 Waste Utilization
The first town.
It is now the seat of the provincial government of the East African Maritime Province. After the capital of East Africa was moved, the central agencies moved to Rhine City. At that time, the provincial government agencies and related family members became the main support of the local population and economy.
Ever since its status as the capital ceased to exist, the First Town City has not recovered until now. After all, moving the capital not only involves the central government agencies, but also the original public systems such as education, medical care, scientific research, etc.
However, the decline of the First Town City actually provided an opportunity for this World Expo.
The work that the Coastal Province Government and the First Town Government have to do for this round of World Expo is no less than that of Dar es Salaam.
Teren, a senior official of the Coast Province, said: “Although this World Expo is jointly hosted by Dar es Salaam, Bagamoyo and the First Town, the First Town has a heavier task than the other two cities.”
“Because the First Town City has to bear 58 percent of the venue supply task, it ranks ahead of Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, which have stronger economies and industries.”
Of the remaining share, Dar es Salaam accounts for 34 percent and Bagamoyo for 8 percent.
The reason for this result is that the First Town City has a large number of idle venues and the most complete and highest-quality urban construction level among the three cities.
After all, it was once the capital of East Africa, so the first town and city were planned according to the highest standards at the time. Not only was the building quality excellent, but it was also very artistic.
Among the current East African cities, the First Town City is second only to the capital Rhine City in architectural art, which is very different from other cities.
"The royal family is willing to contribute Sweet Palace as the core venue for this exhibition, which will save a lot of expenses on venue construction."
"At the same time, our city still has a large number of former diplomatic venues that can be used. Since the capital was moved, these venues have basically been idle, and now they are just the right time to recycle them."
Because the First Town City is the seat of the provincial government, Tren, as a senior official, simply referred to the First Town City as "our city."
The real mayor of the First Town, Su Jiade, stood aside and followed the arrangements of the senior officials.
If we follow the former status of the First Town as the capital, the municipal government is actually at the same level as the provincial government. However, now that the capital has become Rhine City, the First Town Municipal Government has become a subordinate of the provincial government.
As for the original staff of the First Town City Government, they moved directly to Rhine City and became the team of Rhine City. The current First Town City Government was newly established.
The name Sujiade is a typical combination of the East and the West, which is also the naming feature of many people in East Africa in recent years. After the population integration is completed, the central East African country no longer cares about such trivial matters as names.
Su Jiade said to Teren: "These former diplomatic embassies are concentrated and the environment is beautiful enough. They are indeed good venues for exhibitions. Combined with Sweet Palace, it can definitely accommodate most companies and foreign personnel."
Teren said: "This is also the main reason why the central government asked us to complete the relevant tasks in less than three months. After all, it is too late to build a batch of new venues now, and the World Expo costs a lot. If we can use the original buildings, we can save a lot of money."
"At the same time, these venues can only be used temporarily, which is not cost-effective, so using existing buildings can save too many resources."
Many of the buildings in the World Expo are flashy and impractical. After all, there are so many venues, and their only function is to exhibit. Once the World Expo is over, they are basically useless.
Therefore, the mainstream practice of most countries after hosting the World Expo is to directly demolish the venues that have been built with great effort. After all, the future maintenance costs alone are difficult to bear.
Take the third Paris Exposition for example. This exposition was held not long ago, in 1889 by France, and it was quite famous. The famous Eiffel Tower was a product of the third Paris Exposition. But after the end of that World Expo, the Eiffel Tower was almost demolished. The First Town City did not have such concerns. As the main venue, the Sweet Palace was a royal property and one of the few cultural relics protection units in East Africa. Although other diplomatic embassies were not as important as the Sweet Palace, they were also historical witnesses of the East African Kingdom period.
From this, Tren concluded: "In short, the main task of this World Expo is to make rational use of it, to do it faster, better and cheaper. It is important that His Majesty the Emperor and the central government give us orders, and the time is very tight. It is up to your city to select the exhibition area and plan the reasonable route, and complete all the work before October."
There are a lot of idle public resources and buildings in the entire First Town City. After all, when the capital was moved, the entire First Town City lost more than 100,000 people, and most of the population moved out, resulting in a lot of idle land and buildings in the First Town City.
To put it bluntly, the First Town City almost became a "ghost town" at the time, and the First Town City did not have corresponding industrial resources, so the idle rate was extremely high.
With just a little renovation, the vacant buildings and venues in the city can be used as venues for this exhibition and as accommodation for tourists.
Moreover, the buildings in the First Town are relatively new and were originally built according to the highest standards, so there are no safety hazards even if they have been idle for so many years.
This is an advantage that Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo do not have. Of course, although Dar es Salaam does not have a heavy venue task, it is indeed the focus of this East African World Expo.
The main purpose of the East African World Expo was to allow other countries to witness the great achievements of East Africa's economic and industrial development, which the First Town City certainly could not do.
As for the city of Bagamoyo, although its economic and industrial capabilities are not weak, Bagamoyo is mainly based on military industry and shipbuilding industry, so there is not much to see.
However, this does not prevent the three cities from jointly hosting the World Expo. This is also due to the transportation construction in the region after the Dar es Salaam urban circle was proposed.
A developed intercity railway network has been built from Dar es Salaam to nearby cities in the "circle", which is actually light rail transportation. Combined with the original roads and water transportation, the transportation within the Dar es Salaam urban circle is very developed.
So tourists can stay in the First Town and Dar es Salaam, but it does not prevent them from visiting other cities within the Dar es Salaam urban area.
In fact, for the East African government, this expo will be considered a success as long as it can "trick" more people into Dar es Salaam.
Just like many cities in previous lives, in order to expand their influence, they applied to host large-scale events such as the Olympic Games. It is true that large-scale events such as the Olympic Games have certain attractions, but the economic development of the city where they are located is the top priority.
Only by letting other countries see the appearance of East African cities, as well as its industrial and economic strength, can we attract more investment and at the same time instill in other countries the first impression that East Africa is "powerful and prosperous."
Therefore, the East African World Expo is just an opportunity to invite many elites from other countries who have never been to East Africa to East Africa, eliminate their stereotypes about East Africa, and at the same time demonstrate the national strength of East Africa.
After all, East Africa was only opened to the whole country in 1910, and many people have never been to this country, so naturally they have no idea about East Africa.
On the contrary, due to the slow pace of data update, many people's impression of East Africa remains that the entire African continent used to be "eating raw meat and drinking blood", "black people everywhere", "wild beasts rampant", etc.
If it was before the Third Five-Year Plan, Ernst hoped that East Africa would keep a low profile and avoid being targeted by other countries, that would be fine, but now times have changed, and East Africa also needs to export its influence.
In order to lay a solid foundation for the reorganization of world power after World War I, East Africa needed to show the world its powerful industry and prosperous economy in a high-profile manner.
As for the strength in the military field, there is naturally no need to do so. After all, East Africa has always performed relatively well in the military field. If it were to hide its military strength, I am afraid that other powers would have been unable to hold back long ago.
