Chapter 926: Mechanized Farming Road

Chapter 926: Mechanized Farming Road
Dodoma City, Loringen Town.

"It's a waste of good farmland. If it were in the Far East, it would be despised by others!"

Wang Weimo, an old farmer in East Africa, couldn't help but feel sad when he saw the land he had worked hard for decades being flattened by everyone.

"Dad, you can't hold on to old ideas. East Africa is different from other places. We have more land. I heard that the second largest country in the world is East Africa. This little land is nothing to East Africa." Wang Lun, the eldest son of Wang Weimod, persuaded him.
“What do you know, you little bastard? You don’t feel bad about selling your grandfather’s land. When I was in the Far East…, your grandpa and grandma didn’t starve to death, but it was almost the same. You can’t waste the crops now just because you have more! Even though we are the second largest country in the world, it can’t affect the value of this land.” Wang Weimo preached with a look of disappointment.

This made Wang Lun very nervous, as he hated to hear his father talking about his life in the Far East. Although his father's life in the Far Eastern Empire was indeed hard, Wang Lun and other new generation East Africans had not experienced that, so those "hard" days were like a fairy tale to Wang Lun.

Of course, when Wang Lun was a child, he might have loved listening to his father talk about life and legendary experiences in the Far East, but no matter how fascinating the story was, one would get tired of it after listening to it for more than ten years, not to mention that it was mixed with preaching.

"Okay, Dad, you're tired of talking! Have a drink of water first. It's not that I don't know how to cherish crops. I also know that it's a pity to destroy the crops, but if our country wants to develop, we must adopt new technologies and new concepts. This mechanized farming road is a must. Think about it, how can the small ridge pass through a big thing like a tractor? It will probably collapse if it presses on it."

Wang Weimo glanced at the "metal lump" in the distance and said disdainfully, "That tractor, isn't it used for plowing the land? I don't think it's as useful as a cow. It broke down less than a week after it arrived. It took a long time to fix it. It's not durable at all."

Wang Lun comforted him, "That's different. Technology will improve. In the past, domestic tractors broke down every half a day, and we spent the whole day repairing them. Later, they broke down every two or three days, and now they break down every one or two weeks. This progress is visible to the naked eye. In the future, maybe in a few months, or even two or three years, we won't encounter this kind of situation again."

From the time tractors were first popularized in Mozambique to today, the performance of tractors in East Africa has been greatly improved. On this basis, the East African government has begun to promote tractors in other agricultural areas.

"It's still unreliable now. There are few people in our town who have seen a tractor. It took talents from the city to tinker with that pile of scrap metal." Wang Weimo was dismissive of his son's explanation.

"Hey, everything has a process. Didn't you say it was useless when our town had electricity a few years ago? It's still really useful now. It's a general trend for machinery to replace animal power. I was born a few years earlier, otherwise I would have been educated. Look how smart our kids are. They can learn electricity as soon as they tinker with it. The same goes for tractors. Not many people understand it now, but there will definitely be more in the future."

These words really touched Wang Weimo's heart. With the support of compulsory education in East Africa, a large number of "new youth" were born in East Africa. Unlike their parents, they all have a certain level of culture and vision.

Of course, Wang Lun, the eldest son of King Vimod of the East Wind, did not make this trip because he was born in the Far East and was already six years old when he first came to East Africa.

Six years old was actually not considered old in East Africa at that time. The first group of people who received compulsory education had not yet been born, so there were few children of school age. Therefore, there were quite a few elementary school students aged twelve or thirteen.

However, in Wang Lun's time, compulsory education in East Africa had just started, so it was initially promoted only in towns and cities. It happened that the town of Loringen where Wang Lun was located had not yet developed at that time, and it could not even be called a village, but only a colonial outpost.

Therefore, there was not even a primary school in the Lorraine base at that time, so Wang Lun naturally had no chance to receive education.

However, this opportunity did come to his younger brothers. After arriving in East Africa, Wang Weimo and other malnourished adults experienced a second life and were able to have children and raise them. As a result, Wang Lun had four more younger brothers. There should have been six, but two of them had died.

In fact, according to his father, he had an older brother, but he died at birth in the Far East.

Now his brother's bones are still in the Far East, which is also a regret in his parents' hearts. Early death is considered a bad omen. Now that his family has immigrated to East Africa, thousands of miles away, it is even more pitiful. However, this is the era, and they can only sigh. "You are right, kid, I am old and useless, and I can't keep up with the changes of the times!" Wang Weimo sighed.

"Dad, what are you talking about? You are the treasure of our town, the evergreen tree." Wang Lun persuaded.

Wang Weimo is actually only fifty-three years old, but in a country like East Africa, ordinary people who are relatively long-lived, like the East African King Constantine, who is nearly a hundred years old, are truly rare evergreens.

Even though Wang Weimo feels it is a pity, the reform of rural areas in East Africa will not change, because with the development of tractors and cars, many of the original farm roads obviously no longer adapt to the new changes of the times.

Therefore, the farmland roads in Loringen Town also need to be improved. It is not too far from Dodoma City, so it is also a pilot area for the construction of high-standard farmland in East Africa.

With the development of the times, East Africa's high-standard farmland has also been updated to the second generation. There are three main aspects of work. The first is the merger of farmland to adapt to mechanized operations. The second is the upgrading of irrigation canal technology, mainly replacing windmills and other means originally used to draw water with new technologies such as water pumps. The third is to build mechanized farming roads for mechanized harvesting to facilitate the operation of large machinery in farmland, which is nothing more than reinforcing and widening farming roads.

This is also the reason why the town of Loringen refilled part of the farmland. In the past, the farming roads were no problem for people, cows, and horses to walk on, but this was no longer possible with heavier tractors and cars.

In addition, the second-generation high-standard farmland in East Africa should also have supporting measures such as the use of fertilizers and pesticides, but these are currently the shortcomings of East Africa, so it still mainly relies on farmyard manure or imported fertilizers and pesticides.

Of course, East Africa is not completely dependent on imports. It can still be implemented first in some developed cities and coastal cities in China and around areas with a certain chemical industry base.

For example, there is a small chemical enterprise in Dodoma, the parent city of Loringen Town, but the output can only meet the needs of the surrounding areas of the urban area. Although Loringen Town is close to Dodoma City, it is not one of its suburbs, so it cannot get the relevant pesticide and fertilizer quotas.

……

The first town.

Agriculture Minister Goldstein is reporting on agricultural improvements across East Africa. In order to facilitate management and promote mechanized farming, the Ministry of Agriculture has divided the country into zones.

Goldstein: "Now East Africa has formed nine major agricultural areas and several small agricultural areas. The nine major agricultural areas are the eastern coastal plains area (including northern Mozambique, Kenya, and the coast of Tanzania), the East African Plateau area (east of Lake Tanganyika), the Great Lakes area (also mainly distributed in the East African Plateau), the two river basins (Shabelle River and Juba River basins), the central plateau area (mainly in the Katanga Plateau and Matabele Plateau), Mozambique area (South Mozambique Plains), Lake Malawi area, Angola area, and South African plateau area."

"Except for these nine major agricultural areas, areas such as the Azande Plateau, the Nile Basin, the Congo Rainforest, Southwest Africa, etc., are restricted by various conditions and have not yet formed large-scale agricultural areas."

“Among the nine major agricultural regions, the Central Highlands and Mozambique regions are developing most rapidly and have the potential to surpass the Great Lakes Region.”
