Chapter 1036 New Year Snow Night
Chapter 1036 New Year's Snow Night (XVI)
"Relax, relax." Bishop looked at Jack, who had a half-smile on his face but didn't say a word, with some fear, and changed the subject consciously.
"I want to confirm one more thing, which is why you want to protect me. I thought you would just throw me out and then try to negotiate with Duval and beg them to let you go.
I believe that if that old man was in charge here, I would have been a corpse by now."
"I am the chief of this police station. Of course I am responsible for everyone here. This is my job." Ronick raised his eyebrows at him and replied without thinking.
"That sounds really noble," Bishop said with emotion, and then looked at Jack, "What about you, the mysterious federal agent?"
"This is Sheriff Roenicke's territory. My opinion doesn't matter."
Jack looked at the guy with a smile. He had already guessed what he meant. It was just a deal. If Ronnick or Jack was willing to promise to spare his life afterwards, he would work together with everyone in the police station to overcome the difficulties.
If they don't agree, don't expect him to fight to the end with everyone. He will slip away alone if he gets the chance.
Sure enough, Bishop continued, "But I am not like you, otherwise I would not be alive today. If someone is in danger in front of me, especially when he is a policeman, I will just choose to stand by and watch.
If I had to risk my life to save him, I would only do so if the outcome was in my favor. That’s just the nature of me.”
Ronik sneered and was about to say something, but Jack answered first, "Then let's wait and see. I've said before that I'm not here for you. You are not my responsibility."
Jack's answer made the two men have different expressions. Bishop raised his eyebrows, as if they had really reached some kind of tacit understanding with each other, while Ronick seemed to want to refute something, but in the end he said nothing.
At this time, the sound of high heels running hurriedly came from outside, followed by Alice's panicked shout, "Sheriff! Jack, where are you? There are people outside."
Ronik pushed open the door of the storage room and asked, "Who is it?"
"I don't know, it was an SUV. It was too far away to see clearly. I saw it from the west window." Alice hurriedly pointed them in the direction.
"You and your men guard this place and the corridor." Ronick threw this sentence to Bishop and hurriedly ran towards the front door.
John and the old police officer who were in charge of guarding the front hall were leaning against the wall cautiously, prying open the blinds a little and looking out. As soon as Jack came in, he reminded them, "Put out the candle!"
Alex quickly blew out a few candles in the front hall while Alice led the two of them to another window.
The snowstorm at this time was a little weaker than when it was at its worst at night. With the help of street lamps, everyone could barely see that the DPD police car on the west side of the main road had stopped an SUV of an indistinct model.
"Oh my god, that's Capra, Sheriff." Alice squinted her eyes to identify it for a long time, then covered her mouth and let out a low cry of surprise, "That's his old Ford."
"Do you know him?" Jack asked, pulling out his SIG Sauer.
It was not Alice who answered him, but Ronik, "He is a police officer in our police station. He should be on leave today. Damn it, they will kill him."
"Then remind him." Jack pushed the two men apart and was about to fire a warning shot out of the window.
"Stop, you will kill him. They might even take him away." Seeing the people in the car sticking their heads out and talking to the black policeman who was blocking the road, Ronnick quickly put a hand on Jack's arm.
However, things obviously did not develop in the direction the sheriff expected. The black policeman who blocked the road returned to the police car and made way. But before the Ford SUV drove far forward, he set up a rifle in the car and started shooting.
Seeing the sniper on the roof of the opposite building also joined the firing, the SUV was covered with sparks, swaying left and right on the snowy road and slipping all the way past the front door of the police station. "Damn it, we have to help him." Ronik raised and put down the rifle in his hand. He had no shooting angle and no confidence to shoot at the sniper on the opposite side.
Everyone switched their windows from the west to the east and watched the SUV drive across the main road in front of the police station, turn a corner with difficulty, and rush into the parking lot behind the police station.
Ronik simply tossed his AR15 to Alice and turned toward the back door, "I'll go help him."
"What?" Alice stood there in a daze, at a loss for a moment.
"Wait, you two come with me, and the rest of you stay where you are." Jack knew what Ronik was going to do, so he pulled Alice and Alex to the stairs.
"You guys pass the message for me and tell the sheriff that I will find a way to cover him and let him find the right time." After Jack said that, he motioned Alice to wait at the stairs, and he pulled Alex upstairs quickly.
The second floor of the police station is only one-third of the area of the lower floor, because the entire "匚" shape only has the middle part which is the main body, and the north and south ends are both ancillary buildings with only one floor.
Jack found an east-facing office on the second floor and discovered that the sniper who had blocked his way behind him was still hiding in the running old car outside the wire fence. He felt relieved.
Now he is no longer the man with only two small pistols. At a distance of more than 15 meters, he may be able to use AR to play a sniper game with the opponent. Moreover, the enemy is in the light while he is in the dark, so he has the advantage.
In the parking lot in front of him, the Ford SUV had twisted its head and hit a pile of snow, but the person in the driver's seat was obviously still alive, or at least still struggling.
"Tell the sheriff that I'm in position." Jack raised his gun and began to clear the snow on the windowsill with minimal movements. He said to Alex, who was standing at the door of the office and looking at him with a worried look on her face.
"Okay." Alex came back to her senses slightly, agreed, turned around and ran towards the stairs. Soon, Jack clearly heard the sound of Alice running downstairs in her boots. The radio was blocked, so he could only use this primitive relay method.
Not long after, the back door of the police station was opened again. Ronnick bent over and rushed towards the SUV which was about 20 to 30 meters away. Jack had also secretly opened the window a crack. He was lucky as no one seemed to be paying attention to his position.
To be honest, Jack now admired the young sheriff. Although he looked unreliable at first and even had no prestige at all, he was really there at the critical moment.
Anyone who is a little bit timid would just stand at the door, lean down and wave to the people in the car.
"Bang!" A subtle gunshot was heard in the distance, and the bullet shattered the windshield of the SUV. The broken glass splashed all over Ronnick who was opening the door and dragging the person down.
This time the sniper had learned his lesson. When he realized something was not right, he got out of the car where he was hiding, found a snow pile with a better angle, lay down on it, and started shooting.
However, what he didn't know was that this time his every move was exposed in Jack's sights.
Unlike what is shown in some shooting games, the red dot sight in reality does not have a magnification, but fortunately the snowstorm has begun to weaken, and there are still a few street lamps emitting dim light around the parking lot.
Before the sniper could fire the second shot, Jack pulled the trigger. He used the single-shot mode, but he pulled the trigger three times in a row.
The sniper's equipment was different from those of the black police responsible for the breakthrough. He was wearing a white snow suit. Jack was not sure whether he had a bulletproof vest, so he aimed at the opponent's head.
The distance was too far and the snow interfered with the effect of the shooting, but a living person would not bury himself face down in the snow. Just as Jack retracted his head, a bullet came flying and hit the window frame, sending wood chips flying everywhere.
Immediately afterwards, gunshots rang out one after another in the distance, and bullets rushed into the window one after another, shattering the entire glass window.
