Homecoming from Hogwarts
Chapter 1256 True Colors
After no longer sensing the dangerous aura coming from deep in the forest, the restless wolves finally calmed down.
They turned their gaze back to the old man holding the gun, seemingly lingering there unintentionally, but in fact, the snow wolves in every direction were getting closer and closer.
The tranquility that enveloped the coniferous pine forest did not make Jasna feel at ease. Instead, it made her feel extremely depressed.
After she had cleared away most of the firewood and dry food that Old Enma had painstakingly prepared over the past few days, she knelt in the snow, frantically helping the sled dogs tighten the reins, and from time to time she glanced at Old Enma as he headed up the snow slope.
The desire to get old Enma to safety overcame the pain of her injured foot scraping against the snow, the touch and the cold.
Old Enma shouldn't have had to take these risks; it was all her fault.
In the past, she was immersed in the absurd dream her father had woven for her and could not extricate herself. In order to make that absurd dream come true, countless Muggles and wizards died directly or indirectly at her hands.
Now, she has woken up from her dream. She doesn't want to kill anyone again.
"Enma!"
After putting the reins around the neck of the last sled dog, Jasna didn't even bother to wipe the sweat from her temples and shouted at the old man.
boom!
Green smoke came out of the muzzle again, and the flat snow ground suddenly exploded, scaring a snow wolf that was trying to approach and causing it to roll back several times.
The wolves, ready to make a move, were crawling on the ground, their cold eyes fixed on old Enma.
Snap, snap——
Old Enma, who stood like a sculpture, finally moved. The hunting rifle in his hand was no longer steady. His cloudy eyes showed an unusual sharpness. He slowly backed away, step by step, down the snow slope.
Hey!
The howls of wolves echoed through the woods. When old Enma's gray head disappeared from sight, the wolves immediately became restless again.
However, for a moment no wolf dared to advance.
They are also afraid of being injured. In this extreme wild environment, being injured means death.
Well!
A wild wolf with dense gray fur on its neck and gray-blue eyes that were purer than those of the other snow wolves walked out from behind a thick coniferous pine tree.
It whimpered softly, and there was a gleam of wisdom in its gloomy eyes as it stared at the snow pit.
For wild wolves living in the mountains, hunting rifles are one of their few natural enemies. In order to avoid hunting rifles, the leader wolf has been hiding himself.
When the nearby snow wolves saw their leader, they all walked towards him and lowered their heads.
The alpha wolf ignored his subordinates who were expressing their submission to him. His cold eyes swept over the two cold-blooded comrades on the snow and he continued to stare at the snow pit.
A rare heavy snow buried most of the creatures in the dense forest in the snow, making it more difficult to obtain food than in previous winters, so it was imperative for these two people to get it.
A low, wild roar rolled across the snow, and the wolves, hearing the command, let out bloodthirsty howls.
Snow wolves from all directions began to gather in front of the snow slope, and this time, their attitude was much more decisive.
Once more than forty wolves block the slope, it will be difficult for Enma and Jasna to rush out!
Woo!
The leader wolf hiding behind the wolf pack continued to give orders.
An old wolf at the head of the group trotted towards the slope, ready to find out what was going on.
Ouch, ouch, ouch!
The snow pit, which had been silent for a while, finally had some movement.
"run!"
After Jasna's sharp scream, the sled dogs that had been ready to go suddenly pounced forward, and the sled, whose weight was reduced by more than half, suddenly moved!
The old wolf that stuck its head out had not yet reacted before it was knocked to the ground by the fearless sled dogs. The sled that then ran over it broke several of its ribs, ending its hope of surviving the winter!
Jasna did not hide in the carriage. She and Old Enma sat side by side in the driver's seat. Old Enma held the gun while she held the reins tightly.
As if to die together, Jasna drove the sled towards the wolves, and the fierce momentum made the leader of the wolves show fear. Bang!
call out!
The bang of the gunshot and the whistle of the cutting curse sounded at the same time, taking the lives of the two snow wolves.
Jasna stared at the wolves with sharp eyes. Just before the sled was about to hit the wolves, she suddenly pulled the reins and the sled dogs immediately ran towards the glacier.
The sled left an arc-shaped mark on the snow, and after knocking away several snow wolves that were unable to escape, it sped away!
Ran?
This unexpected scene confused the leader wolf for a few seconds, but once it reacted, it immediately let out a howl filled with murderous intent and ferocity.
Boom!
The sled flew down the slope and hit the river surface which was also covered with heavy snow. After shaking violently a few times, it flew forward.
Under the command of the leader, the wolves jumped into the river one after another.
In the dense forest covered in snow, a fierce chase begins!
"Faster, faster!"
The conifers growing on both sides of the river flew backwards quickly. The strong wind irritated Jasna so much that she couldn't open her eyes, and her cheeks were frozen pale and bloodless.
But knowing that her survival depended entirely on whether the sled dogs could escape from the wolf pack, Jasna did not dare to call for a stop and continued to urge them anxiously.
But even so, the sled dogs carrying the weight of the sled and two people were gradually pulled closer by the wolves.
Boom!
A sudden unusual noise coming from the carriage behind her made Jasna's face change drastically. She was so excited that the reins in her hands shook a few times, which disturbed the rhythm of the sled dogs' galloping, and their pace of pulling the carriage became a little disordered.
The car slowed down a bit, and another strange noise was heard from the back of the car.
"Hold still."
Old Enma's steady voice calmed the panic in Jasna's heart. He turned around and saw the raised mark of a wolf's paw pressing on the leather mattress!
On the bumpy sled, old Enma held the hunting rifle steady!
boom!
The bullet pushed out of the barrel by the blast of the exploding gunpowder easily tore the leather mattress, smashed the snow wolf's front paws and then blew off its skull. The splashing red and white liquid soaked old Enma.
This added a bit of sharp murderousness to that dull, old face.
Through the big hole in the car body torn by the bullet, Lao Enma saw that the Snow Wolf with a broken head was thrown off the car by the impact of the bullet before he could even utter a howl.
But his expression did not relax at all, because there was more than one snow wolf jumping into the carriage!
Another terrifying wolf face appeared from the torn hole, and the pair of contracted animal eyes were filled with a desire for flesh and blood!
The snow wolf opened its mouth, and the strong fishy smell gushing out of its ferocious mouth with serrated teeth made the back of Jasna's head numb while she was driving the sled!
Old Enma's hunting rifle was a single-shot one and there were no bullets left in his gun.
After all, having lived in Muggle society, Jasna's understanding of Muggle technology is better than that of ordinary wizards.
Just as Jasna was about to turn around and use her cutting spell to deal with the second wolf that jumped onto the carriage, she saw out of the corner of her eye that old Enma was holding up a shotgun that he had not had time to reload.
sieve!
After a strange sound, Jasna felt a few drops of warm liquid splashing on her ears.
Ouch!
The snow wolf let out a deafening roar of pain!
But Old Enma was not moved at all. He pulled out the hunting rifle that had been inserted into the eye socket of the snow wolf with a swish, loaded the bullet with a swift and steady movement, and then--
boom!
The shotgun roared and spewed out red bullets again, directly smashing the head of the hungry wolf who was hesitating in the carriage, and incidentally, also cracking half of the carriage.
The leather mattress at the crack in the car wall brought a burden to the movement of the carriage. Old Enma grabbed the leather at the crack with his vigorous hands and tore it hard. With a swishing sound, the leather covering the backs of the two people was torn off directly.
After wiping the blood-stained gun barrel with leather, Old Enma threw the leather away, tripping over several pursuing snow wolves.
Well done!
As she glanced at the expressionless old Enma who was loading bullets, Jasna admired him in her heart. But then, several snow wolves gradually came into her sight on both sides of the carriage, making Jasna look gloomy again! (End of this chapter)
