Chapter 31 Volantis
Volantis, she is the earliest colony established by the Valyrian Empire, and it is also the free trade city-state closest to the imperial capital Valyria.

That's why she was called the "eldest daughter of Valyria".

The Volantenes have always been proud descendants of the Valyrian Empire, and they still retain many Valyrian traditions.

It was for this reason that Volantis proclaimed himself heir to the empire and rightful ruler of the world.

But that's not a misnomer.

Volantis is located in the delta of the four estuaries of the Lorne River. The west side covers the Orange Coast and extends to the disputed land. Volantis' sphere of influence extends north to the southern end of the Golden Field.

The land around the lower reaches of the Mother Lorne was fertile, and the towns and cities built on both banks were under the rule of Volantis.

And she is not only ideally located at the mouth of the Lorne River, but also sits beside a very deep natural harbour.

The Volantenes often boasted that a hundred of Braavosi's islands would be swallowed up in Volantene harbors.

The port is located in the south of Essos. When the winter in Westeros comes, it is still in the middle of summer.

The seaport is even more concentrated with countless ships from all over the world, such as Westeros and Braavos going to the Jade Sea for trade, swan ships filled with silk and spices, and galleons in Slave Bay for large-scale slave trade.

The city-state's agricultural products, sweet red wine, are also very famous. The well-developed planting industry can ensure sufficient supply to the world. The handicraft industry is exquisite, and precious glass can also be produced.

Volantis therefore has the most prosperous port in the world.

Volantis is the oldest free trade city-state in history. At first, she was just a military outpost on the frontier of the Valyrian Empire. The empire used it to meet envoys from the upper reaches of the Lorne River, or for the Dragon King family to rest and drink tea.

Over time, the city began to expand rapidly.

In its early history, Volantis prospered and thrived as a result of trade between the Valyrian Empire and the Rhoynar.

In the end, the ancient city of Sakhoi, which originally dominated commerce, suffered heavy losses.

The ensuing war broke out, and the final result was the total destruction of Rhoynar's city on the upper Lhoen.

In order to avoid the invasion of the Valyrian Empire, the warrior queen Nymeria of the Rhoynar led the Rhoynar people to flee to Dorne in Westeros.

Volantis was thus ranked among the greatest cities in the world.

After the Doom, the Valyrian Empire collapsed and Volantis became independent.

In the early days of the bloody century, Volantis still had the upper hand in the war of conquest. Their fleet conquered Lys, their army captured Myr, and their power expanded to the disputed land, the upper reaches of the Lorne.

The final defeat in the final period was also due to the sudden entry of the severely threatened "Storm King" of Pentos and Westeros.

At the same time, Braavos also intervened, lending the fleet of Lys exiles, and Aegon the Conqueror joined the battle on the dragon "Black Death" Balerion.

Naturally, the Dothraki also gave an unexpected assist, appearing from the east to attack and destroy Volantis' towns on the lower Rhone.

The sun sinks to the west, and the afterglow of the setting sun dyes the flowing clouds that move with the wind red, and the light that falls on the river sways with the water waves.

Under the twilight, the red-robed monk Maqiro led the hand that guarded the holy flame, but did not ride directly to Volantis.

Instead, they traveled day and night to Saihoru Town first, and they planned to take a boat from the pier here and go straight down the river.

A small guard of Volantene spearmen was stationed on the city wall. Under the light of the torches, their diamond claws protruding from the gauntlet flickered, and the tiger stripes on their cheeks were clearly visible.

The slave soldiers were all the tiger-robed army who believed in the Lord of Light, R'hllor. The red-robed monk easily saw the shops, stalls and warehouses hidden behind the sandstone city wall.

Unlike the colorful sheepskin lanterns outside the city walls, the lanterns inside the city are made of colored glass, extravagant and colorful, with neon lights flashing.

Marqiro didn't waste time here, and rode his horse to the main square of Saihoru Town without stopping.

Business in the bustling city seemed unaffected by the atmosphere of war.

The upper-class people are still sitting leisurely in their sedan chairs, wandering around, ordinary people are busy living in carts pulled by dwarf elephants, and slaves with fly tattoos are struggling to clean up the excrement on the streets.

The flame tattoo on the red-robed monk's face was clear and conspicuous, and the journey was unimpeded.

In front of the square, there is a stone inn with a huge tortoise hanging on the door. The neon lights are bright, and a woman with a tear tattoo stands at the door, trying her best to attract guests.

Pass the ornate headless statue of Horonor in the center of the square to the stone-red temple of R'hllor.

The culture of Sehoru Town has a strong Volantis style, and it is also full of obvious Volantis historical colors.

Horonor, symbolized by the headless statue, was the Tiger Volantene consul during the Bloody Century, a war hero who served as consul more than forty times until he tired of elections and decided to proclaim himself consul for life.

The Volantenes overthrew him swiftly, and pronounced his death without mercy, and Horonor was bound between several elephants, and torn to pieces.

Burning flames, inside the Temple of R'hllor.

Under the clear guidance of the slave, Maqiro immediately saw the red-robed monk sent by the Supreme Priest to station in Saihoru Town.

"Rumors about Kohor are widely circulated among the people of Sehoru Town. I also heard rumors from the market that the Dothraki will continue to slaughter Volantis. Are these true?"

Faced with the aggressive questioning of the red-robed monk in Saihoru Town, Maqiro didn't care, but kept a calm attitude to answer.

"I came from Kohor with the Dothraki. The town of Sehoru is not worth mentioning. Khal Mongol has no interest in them. Now I need you to prepare a ship for us immediately. I want to rush to Wa Lantis meets the High Priest."

Hearing these words, the restless mood of the priest of R'hllor Temple gradually calmed down.

He immediately sent people through the river gate to guard the Volantis slaves with tiger stripes, and arranged for Marqiro and others to sail southward at the pier.

The atmosphere of war enveloped the pier, and warships filled with slave soldiers kept passing by, protecting the waterway.

The consul of Volantis seemed to believe that the Dothraki were approaching the town of Sehoru, and kept sending warships to transport soldiers northward.

The red-robed monk Maqiluo and the Hand of the Holy Flame, in full view of the crowd, did not shy away from it, as if entering no man's land, they successfully boarded the battleship that transported the soldiers and headed south back to Volantis.

In the middle of the night, the air was filled with a sweltering humidity, and the battleship swayed gently with the breeze and mist that turned randomly.

The crescent moon in the black sky, hidden in the misty clouds, has a strange halo, like an eye peeping into the world.

At this time, there was a burst of rapid noise not far away.

People were shouting, the oars were vibrating, and the noise was one after another, long and shrill.

The warship, full of soldiers heading north, turned around urgently, and the wide waterway was squeezed to the brim.

The red-robed monk Ma Qiluo, who stayed up all night and was on his way, vaguely heard the shouts of the captain and sailors.

The Dothraki have gone south to Volantis.

The overtime work is over, and the two shifts will be resumed. We will have a rest tomorrow, just to save some drafts, and there will be two shifts every day in the future.
