Chapter 714: Population Dilemma
Chapter 714: Population Dilemma
Except for the three star fields controlled by the Alliance, there is no good land left in the entire Spider Web Universe.
No one can be blamed for the Princess Star Domain. It is not just rotten to the point of being in such a bad state. It can be said that the entire star domain has been emptied out.
Almost one-third to one-half of the world has been baptized by the extinction order and has become worthless.
The remaining half of the planets have very few people left. Maybe there are only 10 billion people left on more than 300 worlds?
On average, there are 30 to 40 million per planet.
This reminded Gu Hang of the Angry Owl Star when he was just starting out in his early years.
Relying on these local populations to rebuild planets one by one? Gu Hang was not very willing to do such a thing.
It’s not that it can’t be done.
When rebuilding the Angry Owl Star, Gu Hang didn’t have such strong strength. He started from scratch, but it still developed into this, didn’t it?
However, he also knows better than anyone how much effort this requires.
The price/performance ratio is too low.
It would be better to gather the population as much as possible, and then choose a world nearby with a good natural environment and an acceptable level of Zerg damage, and resettle and develop them in a unified manner.
Let’s put the other planets aside for now.
Treat it as a training ground and clear it slowly, just like the area once occupied by the Iron-Tooth Orcs in the northeast of the Dragon Eagle Star Region.
More than a dozen years have passed, and the core policy there is recolonization, supplemented by long-term monitoring and military cleanup, and overall it is doing quite well. Now, there is basically no need to worry about the orcs appearing on a large scale again to form a large and unified tribe that sweeps across the planet. The combat effectiveness of the colony group, under the armament of the alliance, is already enough to fight against those orcs.
With four star regions and forty or fifty worlds, the population has exceeded six billion thanks to persistent immigration and encouragement of childbirth.
In the vast plains where there are few people and relatively little threat, large tracts of farms were opened up. An adult couple, perhaps with one or two elderly people, would have three to five children. There might be only two or three laborers, but they could form a small farm, often with more than 500 hectares of land.
There is no need for intensive farming. The fine varieties bred by the Alliance Biological Research Institute, combined with the advanced agricultural machinery produced, can be used for large-scale mechanized production.
Even so, it is possible to avoid planting crops on land that is not truly fertile.
All of these are considered state-owned farms of the Alliance. All the food produced belongs to the Alliance. Those working on the farms are not actually farmers, but agricultural workers, with job ranks, wages, and a share of the farm's output. And because of the large output, their job ranks are promoted relatively quickly, which will allow their descendants to obtain more land after they grow up - whether it is to expand the family farm or to split up and open a farm somewhere else.
Life was pretty good.
It's just that the population is a bit sparse, and they can only rely on Alliance radio, TV programs, and alcohol to get by. But compared to their life at the bottom of the hive before they immigrated here, it is definitely much better.
There are also some planets whose ecological environment is not suitable for large-scale agricultural production, so mining is also a good option.
In short, those four star regions had long ceased to be a burden to the alliance. Instead, they had become granaries and mineral deposits, supplying the huge food needs of Qimadi and Yunluo, while also providing military rations, and there was a surplus that could be sold as merchandise or used to pay taxes.
The successful experience gained in these four star regions is to be replicated in those worlds in the Princess Star Region that can still be saved.
However, apart from the Princess Star Region, the Fox Moon Star Region at the easternmost end of the Spider Web Universe can barely be considered a place with relatively good conditions, similar to the Nepeta Star Region.
However, the battlefields on the northern and western fronts were once a mess.
The situation on the Western Front was relatively better. At least the battle on the Western Front was won, and the Zerg was unable to devour the planet on a large scale. The main problem was infection, which could be solved through the "Insect Control Office" plan in the Jingjie Star Field.
It can be considered a deteriorated version of the Nepeta star field.
But the northern route was terrible.
The Northern Front Army really left a huge hole for Gu Hang. They allowed the infection there to spread, and then lost the war.
The problem can no longer be solved with a simple "insect control" solution, and it must be recolonized. There is a little good news.
The Black Crusaders Chapter still felt somewhat guilty about the mess they left behind. They would leave behind a battle fleet consisting of 500 Space Marines, a large number of mortal troops, and a battle barge as the core, and work with the Alliance to slowly solve the mess on the northern front.
They don't need Gu Hang to pay them to fight.
But although some military expenses were saved, the larger part was still spent on reconstruction costs.
The two star fields of Lefo and Jianmen on the northern line can only be regarded as the Princess Star Fields where the situation is slightly better.
It would take at least ten years of re-colonization before we could see results.
Moreover, there is another difficulty.
One of the reasons why re-colonization of the Irontooth Orc-occupied areas was possible was that the Dragonhawk Star Region had a large population, and there were several hive worlds that, according to the Alliance, had excessive populations.
In those hive worlds, the population is a burden in itself and has long exceeded the upper limit of the planet's ecological environment. Just like Koroga 3 in the past, the population itself can only be used as a resource to offset taxes.
That's obviously a huge waste.
Through outward migration, we not only solve the problem of the large population needed for recolonization, but also relieve the ecological pressure on the planet. The people who migrate out will also have a better and brighter future. Apart from the initial investment, the rest is all profit.
However, the devastated Spiderweb Universe is indeed short of people.
It is indeed possible to carry out larger-scale immigration from the Menghe Star Region and the Dragon Eagle Star Region to the worlds in the Spider Web Universe.
But obviously, that would cost a lot more.
Moreover, it may not necessarily meet the needs.
Basic policies to encourage childbirth still need to be released.
But beyond that, Gu Hang had to think of other ways to quickly increase the population.
The number of newborns may not be enough or it may be too late; immigration within one’s own territory is not enough; the only solution is immigration from outside.
Available for purchase.
In the surrounding universe, including other star fields in the Eastern Universe, there are many nest worlds that make money by selling people.
However, buying people is expensive. For an adult, 10 tax coins is the basic price; the number of new people that Gu Hang hopes to add is in the hundreds of billions or trillions, which is too expensive. The cost of transporting people is also relatively high.
There are many pitfalls.
Letting Gu Hang take over the entire Spider Web Universe and then imposing high taxes would be quite stressful.
However, Gu Hang decided to accept it.
This is a great opportunity to expand legally and sensibly.
The more pressure there is, the bigger it is.
Can withstand.
The huge territory of the entire universe represents huge development potential. Hardships in the early stage will bring light in the future.
