Chapter 2

The young man opened his eyes, and there was darkness in front of him. He felt his head was in a daze, and he couldn't remember anything. "Where is this?"

Before he could think about it, the cold touch on his back pulled him back from his thoughts to reality, and he stood up quickly, only to kick a metal object with his right foot, making a slight clanging sound.

"what?"

The young man bent down and groped his hands in the direction of the sound, and soon found a metal object. He took it in his hand and touched it carefully.

The metal object is a cuboid with a rough surface and many diamond-shaped holes. It seems to be bumped frequently. After a slight shake, a small collision sound can be heard inside. There is something inside.

At the same time, an idea appeared in his mind.

The object he held in his hand was a... miner's lamp.

Strange memories gradually emerged in my mind, "A miner's lamp? I've never used it."

He closed his eyes and recalled carefully.

my name is……

"Saul!" came a faint shout from behind.

"Saul..." The young man slowly opened his eyes, "Is this my name? No, it's not my name, it's someone else's name..."

The young man was very disturbed. He put down the miner's lamp in his hand, and touched his left elbow with his right hand. There was an oval scar on his left elbow, which was left when he was a teenager. Later, as he grew older, the scar faded a little, but it was still very obvious.

The index finger and middle finger of his right hand are close together, rubbing back and forth on the scar on the outer elbow of his left hand, carefully feeling the bump in memory, but the touch from the belly of the finger is smooth.

"how come?"

The feeling of uneasiness is getting stronger and stronger.

Suddenly, the young man felt a clammy feeling from the ankles of his feet. It seemed that something was entangled with his feet. He quickly picked up the miner's lamp on the ground and took two steps towards the direction of the shout.

His memory tells him that the miner's lamp in his hand is very important and cannot be discarded casually.

The clammy feeling didn't disappear because of his distance, but it became more and more serious, as if something was climbing up his feet. If he continued to stay here, his life might be lost.

He swallowed, took two quick steps in the direction of the sound, and then ran straight away. However, before running two steps, his forehead hit the stone. Fortunately, the speed was not fast. He rubbed his forehead with his right hand, bent over and continued to move forward, but he didn't dare to run again.

The clammy feeling didn't lessen because of his departure, nor did it become more serious, but it made him more uneasy. He could feel that there was something spying on him in the dark. It only needed a suitable timing, or, when the other party got tired of playing, it would swallow him up and leave him in the endless darkness forever.

Ahead, a faint warm yellow light was on, which failed to completely disperse the darkness, but it was like a morning star, guiding the youth forward. Then, a robust figure walked out from the corner, and the light became brighter, "Sauer!" The shout just now came from the mouth of the figure in front.

"I'm here." The young man said, he no longer cared about his identity. When the light came on, he could feel that the sight that had been staring at him disappeared, and the wet and cold feeling around his feet had also faded a lot. There was only a faint remnant. If he didn't feel it carefully, he wouldn't even be able to notice it.

After approaching, the young man could see the appearance of the person coming. The other person was a man in his 20s. His thick short brown hair was mostly black due to the dust. Not only the hair, but also most of his face was gray-black, and even the short beard on his chin was dyed black a lot. However, the dust could not cover up his sad sapphire blue eyes.

"Sauer, where have you been? What's going on with you? Did you wrestle with someone in the mine?" The man asked with concern. Before the young man could answer, the man seemed to have sensed something. He stepped forward and snatched the miner's lamp from the young man's hand. "Why...is your psychic lamp...off?"

Speaking of the back, the man took a step back and looked at the young man with vigilant eyes.

"I, I don't know." The young man shook his head, "Maybe... it's used up? It seems to have a great impact..." He shrugged, pretending to be relaxed, and at the same time trying to raise the corners of his mouth to show a forced smile. Even if there is no mirror now, he knows that his smile must be very embarrassing.

How do I know this.

The youth thought to himself.

"Sauer." The man said in a serious tone, "Without the protection of the psychic lamp, you will be entangled in dirty things in the mine, and you will be interrogated after leaving the mine."

"Then what should we do now?" the young man asked. He didn't inquire about the situation of the interrogation. From the tone of the other party, he could already guess the consequences of the interrogation. Now he knew nothing about the surrounding environment, and the man in front of him seemed to have a good relationship with the man named Saul. The only strength he could rely on was the man in front of him, so he naturally needed to hold on tightly.

"Let me think about it." The man lowered his head in thought, and within two seconds, his frowning brows relaxed, "So, Saul, let's exchange the psychic lamp, and you take my psychic lamp."

"That's enough? Is there a way to re-ignite it?" The young man looked at the extinguished spirit lamp. The appearance of the spirit lamp looked like a dark red box with a translucent cylinder inside. Inside the cylinder was a square orange stone surrounded by water plants.

The man chuckled, "Sauer, if I had a way to ignite it, I wouldn't be digging in the mine." He stood up and patted the young man's shoulder lightly, "Let's go, the time to return the psychic lamp is coming soon..." As he said, he handed out the still-lit psychic lamp.

The young man took the spirit lamp and took a closer look. Suddenly, he found that there was a fish pattern engraved on the square stone inside the spirit lamp, but this pattern was very simple, and it seemed that it was only carved to distinguish different spirit lamps.

The man turned and walked forward, followed by the young man.

Saul... It seems that he can only live with this identity for the time being, and make a decision after investigating the surrounding situation clearly.

The young man thought, suddenly, a new name appeared in his memory, it was the name of the man walking in front.

"Garland." Saul shouted, wanting to confirm whether the name in his mind was correct.

Garland turned his head and looked at Saul suspiciously.

"Thank you." Saul raised the spirit lamp in his hand.

Garland waved his hand, "If even the few of us don't help each other, then on this isolated island, who would care about our lives?"

island? If it's an isolated island, wouldn't it even be impossible to escape?
Saul's pupils contracted.

I can't reveal my true identity. Next, I must be cautious in my words and deeds, and get familiar with the environment here as soon as possible.

Saul thought to himself, he stopped and glanced back at the thick darkness behind him, as if he was staring at something deep in the darkness, then he withdrew his gaze and followed Garland's footsteps.
