Chapter 721: Queen, you...
Su Changan couldn't really explain the "unity of knowledge and action". After all, in his previous life, he had only read a lot of Mr. Yangming's books and had some knowledge of Yangming's philosophy of mind.

So rather than saying it is an explanation, it is better to say it is a detailed explanation, and it also needs to be combined with the philosophical thoughts of some great men in previous lives.

As for the joke just now, Su Changan did it on purpose.

Equality between countries may be feasible, but in the final analysis, there must be a distinction between strong and weak countries. After all, the connection between countries is based on interests and deterrence, especially the current situation in Daxia.

We know how to destroy Goguryeo and Joseon. Do you think we know how to destroy your country?
This is what Su Changan meant by joke.

However, the Queen's joke made everyone in the literary gathering pause for a moment.

next moment.
All the people of Daxia in the literary gathering looked at the Queen who was sitting there smiling, and the Emperor who was sitting next to her, leaning against the armrest behind him, with his eyes closed, as if he was resting.
For no reason, a sense of pride arises spontaneously.

In more than twenty days, the two countries were destroyed.

The Queen said that she knew how to destroy the two countries so she did it. What a unity of knowledge and action!

Some people who were sitting suddenly straightened their backs a little straighter.

Even the common people in the martial arts world were stunned for a moment, and suddenly stopped reading the poems in their hands in such an unruly manner, and sat back in their seats and sat upright.

The pride of being a Da Xia person suddenly appeared.

However, the envoys from the Western Regions pursed their lips, and suddenly smiled coyly, and some of them even had cold sweat on their foreheads.

Everyone secretly wondered whether the Queen's words were a warning to them, or a way to tell them that Daxia also knew how to destroy their country.

When the envoys learned that Daxia had destroyed Goguryeo and Korea in just over 20 days, they were more shocked than anyone else.

After all, as envoys from other countries, they have to think about much more than the people of Daxia.

How did you do it.
How to do it!
Even during the heyday of Da Xia, there was no such combat power, not to mention that now it seems that the national strength has been restored, but in fact it is facing internal and external troubles. Even so, it can do such a thing!
So you can imagine how frightened they were.

And now hearing the Queen say such words, their hearts skipped a beat. Those who were a little timid were even about to kneel down.

It was the old scholar.
Although he was shocked by what the Queen said, as a scholar, he was only thinking about knowledge issues.

So he looked at the Queen and said, "Respected Queen, I have read the book of your country's sages, and there is a sentence in it: 'The wise go beyond it, and the foolish do not reach it. The wise go beyond it, and the unworthy do not reach it.' Please forgive me for what I said next. You said that knowledge and action should be unified, but isn't this exactly the opposite of what your country's sage said?"

The great scholars looked at the scholar but did not say anything. Instead, they looked at the Queen.

Because the scholar was not wrong.

What the sages mean is that smart people are self-righteous and therefore act excessively, stupid people do not handle things properly due to their lack of intelligence, and virtuous people do things beyond the limit, while people without talent are even more incapable of doing these things.

The unity of knowledge and action means that once you know how to do something, just do it.

If you think about it carefully, it is indeed somewhat relative.

In fact, these days, there have been many debates among scholars about the theory of the unity of knowledge and action.

Among them, someone brought up this paragraph and directly pointed out the irrationality of the unity of knowledge and action.

Learning, originally, means learning and asking go hand in hand. It has always been so and will be so in the future.

Su Changan smiled and said, "Sir, do you know that 'to acquire knowledge, one must study things, and only after studying things can knowledge be acquired'?"

The scholar nodded: "This is also the thought expressed by a sage in your country."

Su Changan continued, "The premise of the unity of knowledge and action is to study things and acquire knowledge, and I once said that practice is the only criterion for testing the truth. This is the unity of knowledge and action. For example, in cooking, we should make the cooking skill perfect, with impeccable color, fragrance and taste. For example, in architecture, we should build buildings and pavilions to be sturdy, beautiful and practical, magnificent, and not fall down in wind and rain or earthquakes. For example, in shipbuilding, we should thoroughly understand the principles of shipbuilding, use sturdy materials, and not sink in wind and waves. This is the study of things and acquire knowledge, studying one thing or one thing to the extreme and understanding all the principles behind it. Only by studying things and acquiring knowledge can we achieve the unity of knowledge and action."

Hearing this, the scholar looked at Su Changan strangely, and the next moment he began to think about something.

Everyone in the literary hall lowered their heads in thought. Some of the teachers, who already thought that the unity of knowledge and action was a good idea, nodded in approval, and looked at the Queen with even more admiration.

Another scholar stood up and bowed respectfully to Su Changan, then said, "Respected Queen, if we follow what you said, using the language of Daxia, shouldn't we know before we act?"

Su Changan smiled after hearing this and said, "It's different."

The scholar from the Western Regions looked at Su Changan respectfully and waited for Su Changan's next words.

Su Changan thought for a moment and then said, "Do you still remember the examples I just mentioned?"

The scholar nodded.

Su Changan said, "If you only know the theory and then cook, do you know how much salt and oil to put? Or the number of vegetables, even if there is a clear recipe for you to follow, is it possible to make a delicious meal? Building a house, you only know the theory, when you build a house, the ground conditions and wood are different from the theory, what do you do? And building a ship, you know how to build a ship, but only know the theory, can you really build a ship? Do you know how to use the tools?"

"Just knowing the theory and then doing these things is to know before doing. If you don't study, ask, think, and distinguish, your knowledge will be shallow and rough, which will lead to inaccurate practice. Knowledge is not the ultimate goal. Diligent practice is the ultimate goal of learning. Confucianism emphasizes reflection on behavior, but the premise of reflection is that the knowledge is broad and deep enough. Therefore, the sage said, 'A gentleman is knowledgeable and reflects on himself every day, so he is wise and does not make mistakes.' Only by being knowledgeable can you reflect accurately and theoretically identify the problems you encounter in practice."

"And these things are prone to the mistakes that we just mentioned. Therefore, unity of knowledge and action is a must. I do it when I know it, and if it is done well, this 'knowledge' is right. If it is wrong, then it is wrong. Then I will look for the correct 'knowledge'."

When Su Changan said this, he saw that everyone was looking at him strangely, wondering if he had memorized too much, so he changed his words and said, "In fact, you can understand it this way. Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles. The books are knowledge, and the things you see on the road you walk are practice. And the same principle applies. You can't just practice and think about learning knowledge from practice. This is definitely not possible, because summer insects cannot talk about ice, well frogs cannot talk about the sea, and people who live in three seasons cannot talk about the four seasons. If you know too little, it will be like talking to summer insects about ice, to well frogs about the sea, and to people who live in three seasons about the same principle for four seasons. These concepts do not exist in their knowledge, so no matter how much you say, it will be useless."

"So we must combine knowledge and action. Only when we know can we do it, and only when we have done it can we have true knowledge. Therefore, with the combination of knowledge and action, ordinary people like us will get better and better. Just like you two scholars, why do you study? To gain knowledge. You have aspirations when you were young, so you have been learning and doing all the way, and you are what you are today."

After saying a lot, Su Changan looked at the people below and stopped talking.

Including Mu Xu, her grandfather, Yang Shanchang, Wu Qinhu and others were all looking at her.

Su Changan was silent for a moment, then glanced at Xia Fengxiang beside him.

I noticed that Xia Fengxiang still had his eyes closed. What time is it now, and he is still closing his eyes!
Thinking of this, Su Changan looked at everyone with a smile, stood up, bowed, and said: "Everyone here today is a great scholar. You don't need to take these things to heart. When Xun Siye got the paper, it was just a coincidence that I thought of it, so I wrote it casually while practicing calligraphy. What I said today was just nonsense." Hearing this, everyone in the literary hall fell silent, and some students looked at the queen in surprise.

Because, the truth that sounds extremely simple and straightforward is actually quite profound.

And, as everyone has been saying these days, no one has ever put forward such a reason.

When the Queen Mother explained it, everyone understood the deeper meaning.

But how did you come up with such a logic?
Your Majesty is only in her early twenties, and you are already thinking about these profound principles of psychology?

Or is it that the reason why the Empress's literary talent is so outstanding is because she has read so many books, which is why she has such literary talent and foresight?

Thinking like this, some people are certain that this must be the case, otherwise how could they think of these things, how could they write such poems!
Looking at Su Changan again, there was a bit of fanatical longing in his eyes.

Master Gu stood up and bowed, then said, "The truth that your Majesty has come up with is simple, but thought-provoking. Instead of talking about it, it is better to do it directly. If you do it well, it is real ability, otherwise it is just empty talk. What a perfect unity of knowledge and action."

At this point, Master Gu bowed to Su Changan again and said, "Your Majesty's remarks today have really opened up a new path for the study of the mind. I think that your Majesty reads several times more books than us every day, and she is very diligent. We are far behind!"

When Mr. Gu bowed.

Some of the teachers, students, and officials stood up and bowed to Su Changan.

Because what is the purpose of opening up a path of psychological learning?

The way of the saint!
Many saints in the past left their words in this way, which also gave rise to the current schools of thought.

And now, it seems like it’s just the beginning.

But the door is open!

Those who stood up all recognized it.

But there are some who admire me in their hearts.

The truth is simple, very simple, but the Queen thought about it and thought about it, while they just didn't think about it. This is the difference.

This is the great truth that sages and wise men since ancient times have all realized.

So this bow is natural.

Wu Qinhu also looked at Su Changan in surprise. He was the best in poetry and had unmatched talent in martial arts. Now he could even come up with such a truth?
Is it possible that such a versatile person could appear in this world?

Thinking of this, Wu Qinhu looked back at his granddaughter Da Mengzi who was eating with relish, and for the first time he began to seriously think about whether he should find a way to get Da Mengzi to become his apprentice.

Even if you don't make any progress in martial arts, it's good to learn these subjects.

Moreover, Wu Qinhu had also been to the Empress's room, and he had seen that apart from some food, there were papers and books, as well as memorials for the Emperor to read.

At this time, one of the two Western Region scholars spoke up: "So, do we have to abandon the Confucian virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, faith, and honesty? Because as far as I know, the Confucian saints once proposed the unity of knowledge and action, but here it is only about moral character and virtue."

Su Changan was stunned for a moment, then thought for a while and said, "Good or bad morality depends on how to be a good person. Our Daxia books have so many principles for teaching you how to be a good person. If you learn them and do them, isn't that the unity of knowledge and action?"

The scholars from the Western Regions were thoughtful.

On the other hand, the great scholars nodded secretly. Although they always felt that there was something wrong with what the queen said, that was the truth, simple and direct.

One of the scholars looked at the empress, thought for a moment, and obviously wanted to continue to refute, but just as he was about to open his mouth, he immediately lowered his head.

Su Changan looked at the two Western scholars, feeling somewhat helpless. The main reason was that although the unity of knowledge and action had some origins in Yangming's philosophy of mind, it was a truth that had been seriously verified for thousands of years in the past. Want to refute it? It was really not possible.

However, we cannot say that these two scholars were going to have a debate or something like that, after all, they really came out to ask questions.

So Su Changan thought for a while, picked up the pen and paper on the table, wrote down a poem, and then looked at the two scholars: "The monkeys on both sides of the river are crying, and the boat has passed through thousands of mountains. I just wrote it because I thought of it. This seems to be a trivial thing, but it is actually a kind of unity of knowledge and action. Because poems are for people to appreciate and comment on, I wrote it out for everyone to see how it works. This is what I call verifying whether what I have learned and done is good or bad. Unity of knowledge and action is everywhere. What you two are saying now is actually a kind of unity of knowledge and action, and my conversation with you is a part of your unity of knowledge and action."

After saying that, Su Changan handed the paper with the poem to Maomao.

but
Just when Su Changan said that, Mu Xu and the literati present all looked at Su Changan in surprise.

When I think of it, I write it.
And then casually!
Wrote a sentence like this?
Ignore the Empress and the two Western scholars explaining the unity of knowledge and action. In fact, the words are clear enough up to this point, but the two Western scholars are a bit stubborn, so this is the case.

but
When you were preaching to people, did you think of this quatrain?
Poems and lyrics through the ages can be written down as you please?

At the literary gathering, many people looked at Su Changan with different eyes!
Is your Majesty really trying to solidify her title as the world's number one poet? Or is she planning to become a poetic immortal?

Mu Xu pursed his lips and said, "Madam, do you have any poems?"

Before I finished asking, Su Changan immediately smiled and said, "No."

Mu Xu wanted to speak, but Xia Fengxiang opened his eyes and glanced at Mu Xu.

Mu Xu didn't dare to speak immediately, but looked at Su Changan eagerly and thought, what's the matter? I finally learned about Spring River Moonlight Night and Song of Everlasting Sorrow, why did this other sentence come up!

……
