Chapter 775 Golden Pond
Xuanzang smiled and said, "Old Zen Master, the way is natural and all lies in the human heart. My wish in preaching the way is just to help people understand the human heart!"

The old monk also smiled and said, "Master's words are truly eye-opening! I have been practicing in this Zen temple for nearly three hundred years. In the past three hundred years, I have met many great virtues, but Master's words are completely different from what the world says!" After saying that, the old monk looked at Xuanzang in surprise, obviously very surprised by Xuanzang's answer!
In fact, the old monk was indeed surprised. Ever since the news of Xuanzang came from the Tang Dynasty, the old monk had always thought that Xuanzang was an ambitious Buddhist disciple who had gone astray in his practice. But after talking with Xuanzang for a while, the old monk realized that Xuanzang was extraordinary and not what he had thought before.

Xuanzang said softly: "Dharma and Tao are the same, Buddha and Tao are the same. Although the paths are different, they all lead to the same destination!"

Xuanzang's words made the old monk look at him with new eyes!
The old monk said in a gentle tone: "I heard that there is a great monk preaching in the vicinity these days. I think it must be the Master!"

Xuanzang nodded and said, "I do have the heart and the deed to spread the Dharma. I have been preaching the Dharma all along the way!"

The old monk's attitude towards Xuanzang changed, and his words naturally became gentler. For a while, the two of them preached and discussed Buddhism, and both the host and the guest were very happy!
This old monk's name is Elder Jinchi, and he is considered a disciple of the Luojia Mountain lineage of Guanyin Bodhisattva.

Although Elder Jin Chi has never become a disciple of Guanyin Bodhisattva, he has practiced in Luojia Mountain for many years!
He established the Guanyin Temple here, and was also ordered by Guanyin Bodhisattva to enter the catastrophe, colluding with the surrounding demons to add to the great catastrophe of heaven and earth!
Elder Jin Chi has been here for nearly three hundred years, and he has lived up to the trust of Guanyin Bodhisattva!
Over the years, Elder Jin Chi has been secretly instigating the surrounding demons to fight each other!
Over the past three hundred years, the surrounding demons have been fighting each other, with countless casualties. Today, there are only three demon forces around Guanyin Temple that are on good terms with Elder Jinchi. They are: the black bear monster of Black Wind Mountain, the white snake of Shepan Mountain, and the wolf monster of Zhaoyue Ridge.

Because of the countless deaths and injuries of demons and monks around Guanyin Temple over the past few hundred years, the calamity of heaven and earth in this disaster has been greatly dissipated! Therefore, the area around Guanyin Temple can also be regarded as a clear and bright world at this time.

If Elder Jin Chi had done this in normal times, he would have been guilty of countless sins. But during the great catastrophe, Elder Jin Chi's actions not only did not bring him any sins, but he was also blessed with good fortune. It was also because of his good fortune that Elder Jin Chi remained clear-minded and not attacked by the extremely strong calamity of Xuan Zang, the monkey clone, and Ao Lie, the three people who were to respond to the calamity.

The calamity energy of heaven and earth is like demonic energy, which can induce evil thoughts in the hearts of living beings.

With Elder Jin Chi's cultivation level not reaching the celestial realm, if he had no merit and luck to suppress him, he would be hit by the calamity energy the moment he saw Xuanzang, and his mind would be taken away by the calamity energy, causing him to harbor evil intentions towards Xuanzang.

Although Elder Jin Chi was blessed with good fortune and merit, the calamity energy surrounding Xuanzang and his party was too terrifying.

The several tribulations that Buddhism had arranged before all ended in vain. Now, the calamities from the previous tribulations were pouring in. Even though Elder Jin Chi had the support of merit and fortune, it was still very difficult for him to resist the terrifying calamity.

The two of them talked about Buddhism for only half an hour when Elder Jin Chi became exhausted and looked very tired.

Seeing that Elder Jinchi was tired, Xuanzang quickly ended the exchange of Buddhist teachings and went to rest with the young monk.

Elder Jin Chi is not an ordinary monk. With his cultivation in the realm of earthly immortals, he would not feel tired at all even if he talked about Buddhism for half an hour or chatted for days and nights.

However, the strong aura of calamity just now constantly eroded Elder Jin Chi's mind, and it was already very difficult for him to persist in communicating with Xuanzang for half an hour.

After Xuanzang and his party went to rest, the calamity energy in the hall suddenly dropped a bit, and Elder Jin Chi also felt suddenly relieved.

Although Xuanzang left the main hall, he was still in the Guanyin Temple.

Therefore, although the calamity energy in this hall has decreased a little, it is still very strong.

Elder Jin Chi felt a sudden relief due to the change in the calamity energy, and a wisp of calamity energy took advantage of the opportunity to enter.

In an instant, evil thoughts began to arise in Elder Jin Chi's heart. "Wuwuwu... Wuwuwu...!"

Elder Jin Chi's crying voice suddenly rang out in the hall.

All the monks looked at each other in bewilderment as they saw their master, who had just been chatting and laughing with the Tang monk, crying sadly.

In fact, Elder Jin Chi himself didn’t understand why he was crying so sadly at this moment.
It seemed that three parts of his heart were filled with grief and jealousy towards Xuanzang; three parts were pretending to act and testing the monks in the hall; three parts were filled with nameless malicious anger; and one part was at a loss.

Elder Jin Chi had a prejudice against Xuan Zang. If he was clear-minded, he would not have made things difficult for Xuan Zang. But now, he was disturbed by the calamity energy, which magnified the evil thoughts in his heart, and his prejudice against Xuan Zang was no longer just prejudice.

Xuanzang made a vow to spread the teachings of the Buddha to the world. Although his great ambition was not in line with the original intention of Lingshan Buddhism, the knowledgeable people in Buddhism understood that if Xuanzang spread the teachings of the Buddha to the world, he would definitely be as good as the founder of the lineage of Duobao Tathagata in the future.

But there are vested interests in any force.

Xuanzang's rise with the true Buddha's Dharma will inevitably impact Lingshan's status. Therefore, how can these vested interests of Lingshan Buddhism have a good impression of Xuanzang!

Elder Jin Chi has the support of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Although his cultivation is not high and his status in Buddhism is not high, he is indeed a vested interest of Lingshan Buddhism. Therefore, Elder Jin Chi is naturally full of prejudice against Xuanzang.

In the eyes of Elder Jin Chi, following the teachings of Guanyin and devoting oneself to Buddhism is what a Buddhist disciple should do, and that is what he himself did.

Elder Jin Chi's aptitude and understanding were not excellent. When he started his cultivation, there were many fellow disciples who were more talented than him.

However, the achievements of those outstanding fellow disciples back then are far inferior to those of Elder Jin Chi.

It's nothing! It's just because these fellow disciples' hearts are not as sincere as Elder Jin Chi's!

Among all of Elder Jin Chi’s fellow monks at that time, Elder Jin Chi was the only Buddhist disciple who was blessed by Guanyin Bodhisattva to practice Buddhism in Luojia Mountain.

Therefore, the Buddha that Elder Jin Chi practices is Guanyin Bodhisattva!

Elder Jin Chi knew the horror of the great catastrophe of heaven and earth! However, since Guanyin Bodhisattva asked him to enter the catastrophe, he entered it without complaint.

Xuanzang's true Buddha's Dharma will impact the status of Lingshan Buddhism and will also harm the interests of Guanyin Bodhisattva!
Although, the communication between Elder Jin Chi and Xuan Zang just now has changed Elder Jin Chi's perception of Xuan Zang a lot.

But under the impact of the calamity, Elder Jin Chi's good impression of Xuanzang, who had just been born, disappeared in an instant.

The sobbing old monk secretly looked at the reactions of the monks in the hall, and saw that most of the monks in the hall were at a loss, not knowing what to do! Only two or three smart monks looked as sad as the old monk!
After understanding the monks' reactions, the old monk stopped crying and waved his hand to let the monks go! Although the monks were worried about the old monk crying, the old monk had a very high prestige in Guanyin Temple. Even though the monks were worried, they had to disperse under the old monk's strict order.
