Chapter 676 It is our honor
Uncle Lin smiled and patted Lin Ke on the shoulder: "No matter if it's troublesome or not, it's what we should do! It's our honor that you can come to our remote place!"
Lin Ke was touched. He knew that Uncle Lin really wanted to help them. This simple hometown sentiment made him feel warm.
"Let's go, Xiao Ke, let's go!" Uncle Lin put on an old military green raincoat. The hem of the raincoat was frayed and you could vaguely see a few traces of careful sewing with needle and thread.
"Uncle Lin, please be careful." Lin Ke helped Uncle Lin cross the threshold. Noticing the old man's slightly trembling hands, he couldn't help but feel a surge of respect in his heart.
Outside the house, the rain showed no sign of abating. The big raindrops hit the ground hard, splashing water.
"This rain won't stop anytime soon!" Uncle Lin looked up at the sky, a hint of worry in his cloudy eyes.
"Yeah, it looks like we have to hurry up." Lin Ke said, opening the umbrella in his hand and covering Uncle Lin's head.
"You are so polite, kid. I can do it myself." Uncle Lin said as he was about to take the umbrella.
"Don't argue with me, you're old and your legs and feet aren't very convenient. Let me do it." Lin Ke insisted, his tone full of unquestionable firmness.
Uncle Lin saw this and stopped refusing. He patted the back of Lin Ke's hand with satisfaction, tears glistening in his cloudy eyes.
"Let's go, let's take the small road, it's closer." Uncle Lin said, leaning on his crutches, walking tremblingly in front to lead the way.
Lin Ke followed closely behind, carefully protecting Uncle Lin, fearing that the old man would fall.
The mountain road was muddy and bumpy due to being washed out by rain. Lin Ke walked with one foot deep and one foot shallow, taking every step with extreme caution.
"Xiao Ke, slow down and don't be in a hurry." Uncle Lin looked back at Lin Ke and said with concern.
"It's okay, Uncle Lin, I'm used to walking." Lin Ke said with a smile, his tone full of confidence.
"That's good, that's good." Uncle Lin nodded with relief and continued to walk forward with his crutches.
Suddenly, Uncle Lin slipped, lost his balance, and was about to fall to the ground.
"Uncle Lin, be careful!" Lin Ke was quick-witted and quick-handed. He rushed forward and supported Uncle Lin.
“Ouch!” Uncle Lin exclaimed, his face suddenly turned pale.
"Uncle Lin, are you okay?" Lin Ke asked anxiously, his tone full of worry.
"It's okay, it's okay, I just sprained my ankle and it hurts a little." Uncle Lin waved his hands to indicate that he was fine.
"Let me take a look." Lin Ke said, squatting down and carefully checking Uncle Lin's injuries.
"Fortunately, it's just a minor sprain, not a big problem." Lin Ke breathed a sigh of relief, and a stone in his heart finally fell to the ground.
"Xiao Ke, thanks so much to you, otherwise I would have died here." Uncle Lin said gratefully, his tone full of sincerity.
"Uncle Lin, what are you talking about? You saved Xinxin, so it's my duty to take care of you." Lin Ke said with a smile, his tone full of respect.
"Good boy, good boy!" Uncle Lin patted the back of Lin Ke's hand with emotion, his turbid eyes flashing with crystal tears.
"Uncle Lin, please sit down and rest for a while. I'll help you up." Lin Ke said, helping Uncle Lin sit down on a big rock on the side of the road.
"Xiao Ke, thank you for your help." Uncle Lin said gratefully. "Uncle Lin, please don't be polite to me. Take a rest first, and we will leave later." Lin Ke said, holding the umbrella over Uncle Lin's head and standing aside to protect the old man from the wind and rain.
The rain is still falling, dripping, as if telling something.
Lin Ke looked at the kind old man in front of him, his heart filled with admiration and emotion.
He knew that in this remote mountain village, there were many kind and simple villagers like Uncle Lin.
They may not have superior living conditions or abundant material enjoyment, but they have hearts of gold.
They warm the world and touch everyone with their kindness and simplicity.
"Uncle Meng, Aunt Meng, hello, we are from the neighboring Linjia Village. My name is Lin Ke, and this is Uncle Lin." Lin Ke greeted the two elderly people politely with a warm smile on his face, making people feel like spring breeze.
"Oh, isn't this Brother Lin? Come in and sit down, come in and sit down." Aunt Meng greeted warmly while welcoming Lin Ke and Uncle Lin into the house.
"Is Brother Meng at home?" Uncle Lin asked, with a hint of anxiety in his cloudy eyes.
"He left early in the morning, saying he was going to town to do some business and wouldn't be back until the evening." Aunt Meng replied with a hint of apology in her tone.
"Gone out?" Uncle Lin frowned slightly when he heard this, and a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes.
"Yes, Brother Lin, do you have something to do with him?" Uncle Meng asked with a hint of concern in his tone.
"It's like this. Our village has a power outage and internet connection today, and cell phones are unavailable. I want to borrow Brother Meng's cell phone to make a call and contact my family." Uncle Lin explained with a hint of helplessness in his tone.
"Oh, so that's how it is. What a coincidence that Meng Ming took his cell phone with him when he went out." Aunt Meng said with a hint of regret in her tone.
“Is that so…” Uncle Lin’s eyes flashed with disappointment when he heard this, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Uncle Lin, what should we do?" Lin Ke asked, with a hint of anxiety in his tone.
"It's okay. Since Brother Meng is not at home, let's come back in the evening." Uncle Lin said with a hint of firmness in his tone.
"Okay then." Lin Ke nodded. He knew that this was the only way now.
"Brother Lin, don't leave in such a hurry. Have a cup of tea before you go." Uncle Meng warmly persuaded them to stay.
"No, no, we still have things to do, so we'll go back first. When Brother Meng comes back in the evening, tell him to come to my house in the evening. I have something to discuss with him." Uncle Lin said, with a hint of unquestionable tone.
"Okay, I got it. Don't worry, I will definitely tell him." Uncle Meng nodded and agreed.
"Then we'll leave first. You guys go ahead and get busy." Uncle Lin said, then he pulled Lin Ke and turned away.
"Brother Lin, take care!" Uncle Meng and Aunt Meng stood at the door, waving goodbye enthusiastically.
Lin Ke and Uncle Lin walked out of the Meng family and walked back along the muddy mountain road.
"Uncle Lin, what should we do now? We can't contact the outside world, and Xinxin must be very worried." Lin Ke asked with a hint of anxiety in his tone.
