In order to have a good harvest during years of natural disasters, in addition to hardworking farmers, fertile soil, high-quality water sources, biological agents to kill pests and diseases, and greenhouses to block harmful rain and irrigation, you also need high-quality seeds.

When the base selected a site outside the safe zone to build its territory, it took soil and water issues into consideration.

The soil and water quality in the northern area are good. The rivers flowing through here are low-polluted water. When it is not raining or snowing, the content of harmful elements in the water is between 14-17‰, which can be used to irrigate farmland directly. However, if you want to avoid the quality of crops, it is best to filter the water before irrigation.

The cost of filtering irrigation water is too high, so, except for Territory No. 7, the lords directly use river water for irrigation. This also increases the amount of harmful elements that crops are exposed to during their growth, increasing the content of harmful elements in the plants and reducing their quality.

This means that the biggest obstacle for the lords to expand production is the lack of sufficient high-quality seeds.

In territories that are unable to build standardized greenhouses that can isolate harmful elements, lords can only select optimized species with a 1% chance of being cultivable from the crops they grow as seeds for the next crop.

If the cultivarable optimized seeds do not appear, you can only use points to buy them at a high price from the territory management department or other lords.

The emergence of high-yi element soil can alleviate this problem to a certain extent. Because the content of toxic elements in crops grown in high-yi element soil increases slowly or even does not increase, this provides conditions for lords to cultivate high-quality seeds in their own territories.

In other words, Gaoyi elemental soil can maintain the stability of seeds at low cost and even cultivate better quality seeds.

The Gaoyi elemental soil in Xia Qing's territory formed a narrow, non-straight strip of land that followed the direction of the flow of unpolluted underground spring water.

The unpolluted spring is located at the top of the low-slope planting area. The spring meanders upward for more than 200 meters to the high-slope planting area. At the top of the high-slope planting area is Yang Lao Da’s big chun tree. 250 meters north of the big chun tree is the northern isolation zone.

Xia Qing organized this planting area into 25 terraces, 12 on high slopes and 13 on low slopes. Although there are many terraces, the area of each terrace is only about 50 square meters, and the total area of the terraces is only 1.7 acres.

Other territories in the Territory Alliance also have areas for growing Gaoyi elements, but this is a secret within the territory, and everyone tacitly agrees not to ask each other about it. Therefore, Xia Qing does not know how large an area of Gaoyi element planting area there is in each of the alliance members' territories.

However, Xia Qing speculated that they should not have as much as he did because there were no unpolluted springs in their territories.

Xia Qing divided these 1.7 acres of terraced fields into two greenhouses, one on the high slope and the other on the low slope. He closely protected and carefully tended to them, intending to use them efficiently.

She wants to use these terraces to improve the quality of crop seeds while maintaining the quality of existing crop types in the territory, so this spring, all crop varieties planted in her territory will be planted in the terraces.

Xia Qing has promised her idol that she will use three years to raise the Yi element content in spinach to above 9, so this spring, the first crop to be planted in her terraced fields is high-Yi element spinach.

In order to avoid being too conspicuous, Xia Qing only planned to plant 150 high-yi element green light spinach seeds in the terrace this year. This number was exactly the number of seeds the base gave to the lord. However, she planted not the second-generation seeds cultivated by the base, but the first-generation seeds native to her terrace.

This amount of spinach would not take up enough space in a terraced field, so Xia Qing would use the remaining space to plant the plant susceptible to harmful elements that she had obtained in exchange - the green light purple sweet potato.

Plants susceptible to harmful elements need to be isolated from harmful elements during their growth process. It just so happens that Xia Qing also plans to use Yi Stone to protect her spinach seedlings during the growth process, so these two plants can be planted in the same terrace. Although she made a fortune, Xia Qing now has nearly a hundred Yi Stones, but she does not have a stable source of Yi Stones, so she needs to use them carefully. Now she is looking forward to the Queen coming out of confinement soon and the Broken Waist Wolf coming to visit her soon. She has prepared a large refrigerator, a microscope, and a cotton pad, waiting for the Broken Waist Wolf to come and exchange.

The third crop that needs to be cultivated in the terraced fields is peanuts.

Last year, Xia Qing harvested 35 green peanuts and 170 yellow peanuts in the terraced fields; thanks to the red squirrel, Xia Qing harvested 195 green peanuts and 315 yellow peanuts in the hidden valley. In addition to the peanuts she exchanged for her idol, she only ate a small amount of peanuts this past winter, and most of the mature peanuts were saved as seeds. So now Xia Qing has 9200 green peanuts and 12000 yellow peanuts that can be sown.

It does not mean that the number of seedlings that can grow is determined by the number of seeds, because there is a limit to the germination rate.

The peanuts grew out on their own last spring, so Xia Qing didn't know the germination rate at the time. In order to accurately measure the germination rate of peanuts, Xia Qing used unpolluted spring water to germinate the peanut seedlings last winter and found that the germination rate of green light peanuts was about 50%, and that of yellow light peanuts was about 35%.

This germination rate is the lowest among all the crop seeds Xia Qing has. Even the yellow light potato, which can dance after dangerous evolution, has a germination rate of 40%. As a crop that can be pressed for oil, the germination rate of yellow light sunflower seeds is as high as 80%!

The germination rate is low, but you have to take good care of it. In order to spread the risk, Xia Qing plans to plant two plots of green light peanuts and one plot of yellow light peanuts in the terraced fields, and plant the rest of the peanuts in her one acre of land in the hidden valley.

The fourth type of crop that Xia Qing wants to plant in the terraced fields is green light soybeans.

The soybeans that Xia Qing harvested in the territory last year were of an evolved, abnormal variety that was too hard to eat. She now had 350 green light soybeans, which she exchanged with Li Si for green light eggs, and three pounds of which Zhang San asked for from Territory No. after Territory No. secretly sent evolved water rats into Territory No. and was captured by Xia Qing. Xia Qing planned to plant soybeans in two terraces and the rest in the farmland at the foot of the mountain.

The fifth kind of sunflower to be planted in the terraces is the yellow light sunflower. The purpose of planting the yellow light sunflower is to use the high-element soil and unpolluted spring water, plus a little bit of luck, to bet on the 1% of cultivatable optimized species and improve the quality of sunflower seeds.

The sixth crop to be planted in the terraces is the yellow light potato, which is planted for the same reasons as the yellow light sunflower.

Then there are the important food crops whose seed quality needs to be ensured and improved: wheat, rice and corn, as well as the important cash crop cotton. Some of these four should also be planted in the terraces.

Then, the green basil and green alfalfa that the sheep like to eat also need to be planted in a terraced field. The green pumpkin, which grows in a mess but tastes good and has a high yield, also needs to be planted in a terraced field.

The remaining four terraces will be used to grow vegetables such as garlic, ginger, onions, water celery, cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, etc., which need to be guaranteed and improved in quality, as well as chrysanthemums collected by Xia Qing in Valley No. 2 and mint and other medicinal materials exchanged with Xin Yu. Xia Qing will not trade the vegetables from these four terraces to others. In addition to herself, the sheep boss and the sick wolf, at most she will provide them to her idol Zhang San and her teacher Luo Pei who taught her marksmanship.

Zhang San would definitely exchange from time to time. Luo Pei had almost recovered and would definitely spend most of his time on missions outside and rarely stay in the territory. Therefore, Xia Qing had no chance to honor her teacher.

In short, all existing crop varieties in Xia Qing's territory must be planted in the terraced fields to ensure that she can eat high-quality food while also guaranteeing and improving the stability of these crop seeds as much as possible.

It is conceivable how busy Xia Qing will be during the planting season after the rain. So she has to make all the preparations she can before the rain, and when the weather is suitable after the rain, she will start soaking and sowing seeds immediately.

While Xia Qing was busy with farm work, Yang Jin and Luo Pei took a helicopter and escorted Tang Rui, Tang Zheng and five others back to Huisan Safety Zone. (End of this chapter)
