Chapter 154 Prelude to Reach ([-])

Will's status light suddenly flashed red—the Spartans didn't usually flash red for no reason unless something went horribly wrong.

Just as Jun reflexively rolled to one side, a sharp whistling sound and Will's shout sounded almost simultaneously. "Jun, the banshee is coming!"

A series of hot plasma beams swept across the place where he had just been lying down. He picked up the sniper rifle and stood up slightly before rushing forward.The screams of the Banshee fighter jets chasing him from behind and the burning sensation of the plasma machine gun fire were chasing him like tigers, which made the hairs on his back stand up.

He ran desperately, the energy shield indicator on the heads-up display dropping rapidly, and the sound of alarms filled the entire helmet.Finally reaching the edge of the cliff, he jumped, and the gravity of the Reach star pulled him down.

The fierce wind whistled in his ears, and Jun reached out to grab the protruding rocks on the mountain wall next to him, using them to slow down his fall.He looked up at the same time and saw three Banshee fighter jets lined up, flying across the sky with a white trail, and then disappeared under the cover of the opposite mountain peak.

Fred immediately jumped off the self-propelled mortar and ran as soon as his feet touched the ground.Junfa gave him a navigation point, located above the ravine on the side of the mountain where the cave entrance once stood.

A ball of plasma energy struck Fred in the back like a sledgehammer: a beam from a charged, overloaded plasma pistol.He stumbled forward without losing his balance—and kept running.There was a burst of light golden light flashing around Fred's armor, which was the performance of the energy shield when it was charging.He ran and hid, taking circuitous steps. If he got hit like that again, he would be finished.

"Quick!" Kelly shouted, and the minigun in her hand buzzed into action.

Fred ran the remaining 100 meters in a few seconds and jumped into the crater where Jun was.Jun stretched out the muzzle of the marksman's rifle, aimed at the pursuers and fired repeatedly.

Kelly stood upright on the edge of the crater, raised the minigun above Fred's head, aimed at the enemy and fired a burst of fire to suppress their firepower.Suddenly, the gunshots roared like thunder.

Fred was excited to see Will alive and standing next to Kelly - and even more so when he saw Will holding a multi-rocket launcher.

"Get down," Kelly said to Fred, gesturing toward the center of the crater. "We'll cover you." She continued shooting until the belt was empty of bullets.

Will took aim and pulled the trigger.A missile trailed white smoke into the sky and hit the cockpit of a Banshee fighter jet.The approaching alien craft turned into a fireball and disintegrated in the blink of an eye.

Fred showed some doubts about Jun's existence, but he didn't ask any more questions and went back into an elevator shaft.This elevator shaft leads directly underground, with a steel cable extending into the depths.He grabbed the cable and jumped, quickly sliding into the darkness.

After Will fired the multi-unit rocket launcher empty, he said without looking back: "It's time for us to withdraw. You guys go down first."

Jun waited for Kelly to jump into the elevator shaft first, and then he jumped down.As he slid down, he felt obvious vibrations on the cable - once, twice - as the other two Spartans began to slide down behind him.

After free-sliding 300 meters, he caught a glimpse of a faint light at the bottom of the well, which was yellow and lifeless. It was the light emitted by a chemical glow stick.Jun tightened his grip on the rope and slowed down his descent.One meter away from the bottom of the well, he let go of his hands and landed on the ground in a crouching position.

He quickly stepped away to make way for the remaining Spartans, who one after another fell in beside him.

"This way." Jun said and walked forward.They passed through elevator doors that were opened with force.

Jun noticed that Will walked with a severe limp, which matched his earlier statement.Ironically, Fred kept them out of the heat of battle, and they ended up in extremely dangerous situations.

However, they are still alive after all... Jun very much hopes that the beta team of the second phase Spartan red team is also safe.

They walked into a corridor. The stainless steel walls were painted, and the light reflected on them seemed even fainter.

There was a violent explosion overhead, rocks and dirt rained down into the elevator shaft, and dust filled the corridor.

"Lotus anti-tank mine," Will said to Fred. "This little thing will slow down us uninvited guests."

The other two Spartans, Isaac and Winn, sat on one side of the corridor, with a rock barricade in front of them.They nodded slightly to Fred, keeping their eyes on the end of the corridor and their weapons aimed in that direction.
