Chapter 225 Rescue
Chapter 225 Rescue (21)
Rebecca fell to the ground and immediately rolled away. The plasma energy beam flew over their heads with a hiss, and a plasma beam hit very close to Rebecca, causing the surface of her armor to begin to melt. The burning pain made her grimace in pain. The few blue tiles around her turned into black glassy craters.
"Grenade-throw those shields, Spartans!" General Whitcomb roared.
The Master Chief and Anton opened the safety of the plasma grenades, lying on the ground and threw them out with all their strength. The grenade hit the far wall and fell into the phalanx of elite warriors and gnolls—falling behind their shields.
Two blue rays of light flashed, and the enemy's formation was exploded. The gnolls screamed and ran away.
"Fuck you!" Rebecca picked up the fuel cannon and fired it, hitting the broken phalanx formation and blowing them to pieces.
She pulled the trigger again, only to find that the alien weapon glowed green, the surface temperature increased rapidly, and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air quietly. She felt something was wrong and subconsciously dropped her weapon.
“The indicator strip on this thing is red,” she yelled. “This thing is too hot to use anymore!”
"Back off!" the Master Chief ordered. "That thing has a failsafe!"
"What the hell is 'fail-automatic'?" Rebecca yelled, backing away.
"It's going to explode!" Aurora shouted while changing the magazine.
Rebecca's eyes widened immediately, she turned around and swooped down, just barely escaping. The fuel cannon that landed on the ground first "crackled" with sparks, and then exploded. Its power was equivalent to a fragmentation grenade.Debris from the blackened, twisted floor rained down on them.
Rebecca touched herself and made sure that no arms or legs were missing. She quickly jumped up, pulled out her pistol and shot fiercely at the group of Grunts who escaped from the excavation site. They were unarmed and she brought them to the ground without mercy.
Suddenly, Sergeant Johnson pointed to a wall next to the excavation site and shouted, "There! There's something moving behind there!"
"Master Chief, is this an enemy digging force?" General Whitcomb asked.
The Master Chief fired repeatedly at the elite soldiers who climbed up next to the excavation site, "Wait a moment." He threw a fragmentation grenade, and then waved to the hell paratroopers amidst the explosion, "My status light is on, it's friendly forces, blast. hand?!"
"Here it is, sir!" Cecilia shouted, holding up a white C-10 plastic explosive.
"Blow up that wall, private, and let the others cover and shoot!"
Cecilia took out more C-10 explosives from his tactical belt bag and rushed to the wall to install the explosives despite the rain of bullets.Rebecca fired continuously at his side, knocking down several Grunts that were approaching him.
Cecilia threw the automatic trigger device to the ground and ran towards them, "It's going to explode!"
As soon as Rebecca lay down, a deafening sound came over. The overpressure shock wave blew Rebecca up, and then she rolled several times on the ground, with fist-sized gravel whizzing past her head.
She struggled to get up, moved the broken gnoll corpse that was pressing on her, and then looked forward.
Two bullet-riddled elite warriors struggled to stand up from a pile of rubble. They were about to shoot with their plasma rifles when their chests were suddenly shattered by the deafening gunfire.
Rebecca turned and looked at the source of the firepower - five Spartans suddenly appeared behind a few large pieces of gravel, and the leader's SRS99 sniper rifle was still emitting wisps of smoke.
她的抬头显示器上跳出几个友军识别标识:凯丽-087、弗雷德里克-104、威廉-043、黛西-023和俊-A266。士官长撒开双腿跑过去跟他们会合。
Fred lowered his weapon. "Anton Grace John?" he whispered in disbelief.
The Master Chief opened a comm channel and said to his Spartans, "It's me. I wish I could explain everything to you some time. I - I'll talk to you later, let's get out of this damn place first."
Kelly quickly reached out and brushed two of her fingers across John's mask.
He raised his hand, seemingly wanting to make the same gesture of smiling, but at this time Rebecca had already followed General Whitcomb to the side of the group of Spartans at full speed, and suddenly stopped.Close behind her were Locklear and Avery.
Avery kept glancing back around the large, empty room.
"Are you the only ones?" General Whitcomb asked.
"No, sir," Fred replied, "There are two more." He turned around and reached into the partially collapsed tunnel, "Winn? Bring Dr. Halsey out. There is no danger."
When the limping female Spartan led the frail scientist out, Rebecca noticed that the Master Chief was frozen there, motionless.
"I didn't expect that, Catherine Halsey." General Whitcomb sighed.
Dr. Halsey raised her slender hands to brush away the dust from the hems of her skirt and coat.
"General Whitcomb," Halsey said, "it's good to see you again. Thank you for coming to the rescue. You have no idea how timely you came." She turned to the Chief. "Perhaps for this heroic operation I should Is it you that you’re thanking, John?”
The Chief didn't answer anything, just pointed his helmet panel at her silently.
Rebecca noticed a fist-sized crystal clasped in her hand.It has more than 1000 facets, shining brightly like sapphires and sunlight on the water.
"Thank whomever you want, Catherine," Whitcomb said. "If you like, throw us a party—once we get out of here." He opened the comm channel, "Polaski, come down— "
Avery put his hand on the general's arm and nodded toward the opposite wall.
"What's going on, Sergeant Johnson?" The general's voice was stiff in his throat.
The Master Chief's motion detector flashed on his helmet-mounted display, but he couldn't see a real signal point... He didn't see anything in this 3000-meter-diameter cave.Did the detector detect an elite warrior wearing a stealth suit? No, if that were the case, the dust in the air would have exposed its whereabouts long ago.
"No one's moving," the general whispered.
Rebecca saw them. She saw them all.
She hadn't noticed them before because he thought they were smoke and dust fluctuating in the air, perhaps an illusion created by distance. She hadn't expected that so many Covenanters could be so quiet.
Twelve levels of corridors surrounded the vast chamber, with Covenant soldiers standing on each level.Gathered on the balcony were gnolls who were opening their energy shields "bang bang", roaring elite warriors, and several pairs of hunters, the nuclear guns in their hands shining with green light. The buzzing sound of thousands of plasma weapons charging filled the air like locusts.
