Chapter 232 Rescue

Chapter 232 Rescue (28)

A loud roar came from above the troop transport, and then Rebecca heard nothing. Her helmet automatically turned on the sound filtering function to the maximum, and then she saw Li being "bumped" into the troop cabin from the hatch. The deck began to shake violently, and strong winds poured into the troop cabin.Locklear fell to the ground and rolled around on the deck.

The air began to become hot, and the clear light returned to the ship - the purple light receded like a tide.

The troop carrier suddenly jumped upwards, and its excessive weight pushed her down on the deck. Countless battleship parts fell from the side of the troop carrier, dragging flames.

What happened?Rebecca rolled around and patted the helmet on her ears, her hearing slowly returning amidst the ringing in her ears. The troop transport ship buzzed and flew upwards in the channel at full speed, panning from time to time to avoid falling obstacles.

"Someone detonated a nuclear bomb above us," Dr. Halsey whispered. She pinched the side of her glasses with her right hand, obviously looking at something in the glasses, "With this radiation equivalent, I guess it is a furious nuclear bomb."

"Who is it? Do we still have reinforcements?" Fred asked.

Dr. Halsey just shook his head in confusion.

Rebecca stared at the screen with a smile on her lips - it must be him, he was safe and sound, great.

The Phantom troopship appeared at the entrance of the cave, and sunlight poured into the ship.

As soon as it leaves the gravity beam, the slender crystal automatically closes up, retracts its petal-like sides, and merges back into its original shape.

Dr. Halsey stared at the unfolding facets of the crystal. "This thing distorted space when we first approached it. Apparently it also has an effect on artificial gravity fields. I wish I could get it into the lab right away." She picked up the crystal and put it back in her coat pocket, then continued Focus on Kelly's physiological monitor.

Rebecca looked out through the open hatch, and the sky above Minazit Mountain was covered with black trails. When the nuclear bomb detonated the destroyer, it shot down the Banshee fighter jets and Seraph fighter jets hovering in the air. The destroyed cruiser's hull burst into blue-purple flames. It lost power and was diving towards the ground of Reach.

However, the situation is still not optimistic. She saw six small dots in the distance that were rapidly enlarging. Judging from their outlines, they were all cruiser-class battleships.

"They didn't fire," Halsey said, a hint of anxiety in his calm words.

"They won't fire," General Whitcomb asserted. He spoke with certainty—as if this was not his own guess but an order that the Covenant troops must obey.He stared at the cruisers with his hands on his hips, as if trying to defeat them with his eyes. "They wanted that thing you found. They wanted it so bad that they let us shoot it without fighting back."

The Master Chief walked in from the cockpit. "Sir. We are going to rendezvous with Cortana and the captured flagship at 0715 hours. Only two and ten minutes left."

General Whitcomb checked his watch, then glanced at the Covenant ships that were gathering around them and approaching. "Polaski, get us out of here. Plan a route to the rendezvous - as fast as you can!"

"Okay, sir." The hatch began to close, and the troop transport adjusted its flight angle and rushed toward the upper atmosphere of Reach. The sky gradually darkened, from turquoise to tile gray to dark blue, and finally turned into inky black, filling the sky The stars shine brightly.

Their dropships left the cruisers behind, but flew agonizingly slow compared to the brisk and nimble Seraph fighters.Seraph fighter jets surrounded it, four on the port side of their ship and four on the starboard side. The other two boats rushed in front of it and gradually slowed down, blocking their way.

"They're blocking us," Polaski said, slowing down. "Warrant Officer," the general said, "run through, full speed ahead."

Polaski gasped. "Yes, sir." She grasped the anti-seismic gear tightly with one hand, and reached for the accelerator lever on the control panel with the other hand, pushing it to maximum power.

The troop transport jumped forward - heading straight towards the Seraph fighter jets blocking the way.The two fighter jets hurriedly rolled to the side, only three meters apart before they collided with each other, and the troop carrier sped past.

Locklear stared at the port monitor and whistled. "Anyone else think it's a little crowded out there?" he whispered.

Rebecca looked over Locklear's shoulder. When they had flown down from the flagship a few hours ago, there had been a dozen small battleships. Now that number had tripled, orbiting Reach. There were several light cruisers that looked like glowing manta rays.

There were four bulbous aircraft carriers, and near them the space glowed with the lights of swarms of Seraph fighters.

There are also a small number of destroyers, which are beautiful, fast, and densely covered with plasma turrets.

There was debris in orbit, too: tumbling fragments of Covenant ships; chunks of rough alloy plates; tangled tubes of plasma weapons that still glowed with heat; shiny clouds of metal, where the metal was evaporating. Dust mist formed after cooling.

"Cortana was busy while we were away," the Master Chief commented, nodding approvingly at the messy battlefield.

Rebecca discovered that the light in the berthing bay of an aircraft carrier flickered on and off.He turned on the image magnification device on the head-up display and saw a large number of elite warriors carrying thrusters and dozens of engineering ships with tentacles flying away from the docking bay.

"Seraph fighter jets, engineering ships and elite warriors responsible for boarding attacks are going to intercept us." Polaski shouted, "The direction is-" She stopped and checked the scanner twice, "Oh my god, there are people coming from all directions." There are them!"

At this time, a pleasant female voice inserted into the communication channel. "Don't make a fuss, Warrant Officer, there's still us."

Eight points of light suddenly flew out from under an inconspicuous shipwreck, and shot into the docking bay of the Covenant warship in the blink of an eye.In an instant, fire filled the docking cabin, and Rebecca saw the figures of the elite warriors submerged in the flames, and a series of explosions occurred on the engineering ship.

"Ellie?!" Polaski said in surprise.

A Pelican troop carrier appeared on their starboard side, the cannons on the bow spraying fire. The energy shields of the four Seraph fighters were broken in an instant, and then they exploded in the fire, and the scattered parts were destroyed by the Reach star. The gravity pulls towards the atmosphere, forming streaks of flaming meteors.

"Hahaha, just in time. Take us to the rendezvous point quickly, Warrant Officer." General Whitcomb ordered, "Go at full speed."

"Sir," Polaski replied, her voice ice-cold, "The rendezvous point is right here."

Rebecca searched all the monitors for the Covenant flagship they had captured—but all she saw were enemy troops.
