As for practicing in a temple, one has to find a separate small temple, invest in building it, and practice on their own.
But even so, at the beginning, money is indispensable.
Cultivation is something that people who have nothing and are unwilling to change can never adapt to.
Every era has its own unique and prominent spiritual confusions. Identifying the prevailing spiritual confusions of an era often means identifying the most basic operating logic of the era and discovering the inconsistencies in this logic.
Most of the time, the confusion of the times is spread to most people at a shallow level and does not affect the operation of society, but everyone is aware of it and feels more or less pain.
Don't expect that a short period of time in a temple can transform anyone and bring them enlightenment. Without long-term accumulation, how can there be a qualitative change? But it can definitely help to calm the mind and body.
Liu Xiaoyu was attending a one-month spiritual practice conference at the time. After the conference, she officially confirmed that she could not bear the suffering.
Becoming a monk is really hard. Don't say that becoming a monk means just lying down. No one's lying down means getting up at three or four in the morning, spending several hours a day chanting Buddha's name, and working in between.
It was the last day of the Dharma Assembly and Liu Xiaoyu was happily preparing to leave the next morning. However, the abbot would not let her go and asked her to continue working with him, doing farm work. Liu Xiaoyu simply picked up her pole and went back to the guest room to lie down.
Let whoever you want love him/her. Let those who always say that working can eliminate karma and accumulate blessings do the work. Giving the blessings to others can also be considered as accumulating virtue.
The manager asked Liu Xiaoyu how she felt, and Liu Xiaoyu replied: Master, to be honest, I feel like every day is a year. Waking up early every day is torture for me, and I am almost exhausted from working so hard.
Another lay Buddhist who lives there asked her: You are leaving soon, do you feel any reluctance to leave?
Liu Xiaoyu answered directly: No, not really. I still choose to be at home, use my own toilet comfortably, get up when I want, do whatever I want, read the Lotus Sutra, and learn about the law of cause and effect. It's pretty good.
To cultivate the mind and cultivate the spirit, you don't have to find a temple. As for those who are tired of staying at home and want to eat and live for free, why not come to the temple to work and experience the collective life of the working people, it's good.
The abbot came back more than ten days after Liu Xiaoyu attended the Dharma Assembly. According to the lay Buddhists living in the temple, he attended a meeting.
Because Liu Xiaoyu took a high-speed train for several hours to get there, after the one-month Dharma Assembly, she took a lay Buddhist sister's car when she went down the mountain, and listened to the lay Buddhists who had lived in the temple for a long time chatting along the way.
They said that most of the monks in the temple have their own homes. There was a little monk who went to a nearby big city and said he wanted to go shopping. The little monk liked to collect small things.
In fact, lay Buddhists not only have to work, but also have to contribute money to support the temple and the abbot. They have to transfer money via WeChat during the holidays. Lay Buddhists who only work and don't stay for long will be treated differently by the abbot and will be given the cold shoulder.
It doesn't mean that you can't live there if you don't pay, but if you don't donate money, the abbot will try to drive you away, or assign you a lot of work. If they can keep working, they don't mind having more people help with the work.
There are donation boxes everywhere in the temple, including in many places near the temples of the gods and the land. There are payment QR codes on them, which are the WeChat payment QR codes of the abbot and the dean.
How did Liu Xiaoyu find this temple? She was unhappy for a while, and she saw a month-long Dharma meeting on the Internet. Liu Xiaoyu excitedly called to ask about it, and then took the high-speed train with her phone to rush over. At that time, Liu Xiaoyu's plan was to go on a spontaneous trip. After arriving, Liu Xiaoyu transferred the money within a night.
Facts have proved that Liu Xiaoyu's choice was correct. No matter how much she claims to not spend money, there is still a big difference between spending money and not spending money.
The most obvious point is that at that time Liu Xiaoyu said she didn't want to work and didn't work, and she said she wanted to go back to the guest room to sleep and she went back to the guest room to sleep.
No one cared or asked, and when I mentioned it to the host who arranged the work, he just smiled and said nothing.
In fact, Liu Xiaoyu felt something was wrong less than a week after she went there. But at that time, she thought, it was only a month, the money had been transferred, and the tablets had been set up, so the money would definitely not be refunded. She might as well stay here to see if there was anything new and interesting and broaden her horizons.
The vast majority of lay Buddhists are really nice, with kind eyes, wisdom and compassion. It is very comfortable and caring to get along with them, and it makes you feel much happier than traveling alone.
The biggest gain from my life in the temple is the disenchantment with religion and temples. I no longer have illusions about the last pure land in this evil world of the Dharma Ending Age. I can live my life honestly and peacefully. The world is the real place to refine my mind.
Some people, because of the heavy pressure at work, sigh and say: Oh, I have to face work pressure every day and deal with messy interpersonal relationships. I am so exhausted. I really want to live in a temple for a while. It would be so nice to be carefree.
Many people also think that the temple is a pure land. They think that after arriving at the temple, they will not feel uncomfortable because of interpersonal relationship problems, and they want to live in the temple for a while to escape from life.
But it is not like that. There is no Pure Land in this Saha world. The Pure Land is in the heart. Moreover, wherever there are people, there is the world. If you are in the world, you will inevitably have interpersonal relationship problems.
Some people do not understand temples. Influenced by movies, TV shows and books, they always think that monks in temples should be like this: not caring about right or wrong, having no temper, being extremely knowledgeable and good at enlightening others, having a calm expression or smiling all day long.
Many tourists feel the same way when they come to the temple. When they see some of the monks’ behaviors, they will secretly complain about how the monks can lose their temper, how the monks can be so scheming, and how the monks can be greedy.
This idea is a bit naive. The environment in the temple is indeed purer, because many people who can come to the temple have a heart for Buddhism, but it does not mean that things will get better after coming to the temple.
Because some habits from before becoming a monk are still there, it is impossible that all the bad habits will disappear and one can instantly become a great monk just by suddenly becoming a monk. That is not the case.
Cultivation comes step by step, just like school. People who have never been to school and have never come into contact with students will think that students who can go to school are definitely excellent, know everything, and get full marks in every exam.
Actually, it is not like that. Some students study well and some do not. We cannot generalize.
Moreover, the interpersonal relationships in the temple are not completely harmonious. Some people may have conflicts with each other. After all, everyone's mind and ideas are different, so it is normal to have friction.
In fact, everyone has his own fate and his own practice. If you are determined to practice, everywhere is a place of practice.
Like Wang Luyao, who suffered from depression, she thought that practicing in a temple could cure it. If Liu Xiaoyu had not been familiar with Wang Luyao, she would not have asked her to stay with her. (End of this chapter)
