Chapter 338 The wonderful things of the previous generation will eventually become memories
The shooting process designed by Mr. Xie Tianfang follows the principle of difficult things first and easy things later.
The difficulty here does not refer to the difficulty of shooting, but the difficulty and danger of the actions of the two actors. Shoot the riskiest and most coherent shots first, and then arrange those that only require concave poses.
So the entire parkour shooting started from the penultimate scene, which is the stepped building on the side and in front of the white elephant.
This section is the only section of rooftop parkour. There are three perspectives. One is a chasing perspective to shoot Wu Yue running in front, one is a mid-range third-person perspective to capture the two people running and chasing each other, and the other is a super long-range perspective. Ordinary bystanders serve as contrasts for the two flying supermen, and the final film will be jump-cut from these three pieces of footage.
The staircase buildings are actually two buildings side by side, with a distance of less than 10 meters. The one on the east side has a higher overall altitude. Each has 4 steps, and each level has 2 floors of about 5 meters.
The chasing route is roughly to jump down step by step from the top of the building at high altitude. After jumping to the lowest step, use the 13th floor of the void to reach the step building at low altitude, jump down two more steps, and then Turn the corner and jump to the end of the overpass between buildings.
There are four steps on the 5-meter-high "steps" that require actors to actually jump, that is, there are no editing points from jumping to landing.
Of course, the specific shooting of these four steps is also different.
The first of the two shots of Wu Yue is a chasing shot, which is shot from a close-up with a crane camera. Only the back is visible, but the face is not visible, so the person actually doing the action is the martial arts stand-in.
It's not that Wu Yue couldn't jump, but in order to avoid accidental injuries that would affect the filming progress, a stand-in would be used for all dangerous scenes that were not necessary for him.
The two stand-ins were 5 meters apart. One ran and the other chased. They jumped from the second step on the roof and landed on the soft cushion on the third step.
"Remember, running here and jumping down is not a one-time deal, but a long chase that does not require any skills, just like walking up two stairs to go downstairs when you are late for work. Don't jump out of my sight. The momentum of death comes out."
For this reason, he did not directly call for live shooting, but rehearsed the flat part before jumping off several times.
The action is naturally inferior to the life-threatening scenes of Brother Long in the previous life or Wu Lianjing in this life, because the point of interest is not "fighting for life" in the first place. Xie Tianfang's requirement is that the movements are stretched and coherent, the route selection is clean and concise, and the emphasis is on realism.
After adding a zoom operation, the requirements for the photographer's timing and the positioning of the two stuntmen are much more stringent, and several more shots may not necessarily solve the problem perfectly.
But if you take two shots apart and then edit them later, the audience won't see much difference.
After finishing the martial arts training, Xie Tianfang came to the monitor and watched the material of the previous jump with Chen Yiming.
"Yi Ming, the sudden zoom effect doesn't seem to be particularly good. The airborne time is still too short. I think this shot should be shot in segments."
Chen Yiming knew that Xie Tianfang had good intentions. The purpose of placing a long shot here was to highlight the spatial relationship and bring out the feeling of an 8D city with flat ground here and rooftops there.
Chen Yiming thought for a moment and still felt a little unwilling, "Thank you, Teacher, let's try it again."
The first shot is the second floor of the super long shot. The two photography teams set up camera positions in a residential house in Baixiangju and in a covered bridge outside the building, facing the level staircase building to shoot simultaneously.
The two stand-ins climbed up along the side handrail and trotted over to listen to the training.
Zhou Zhaolong also made two consecutive jumps. In addition to the long shot with Wu Yue, which was shot by a stand-in, there was also a full frontal shot of jumping into the air and then rolling and releasing force. There was no way to use a stand-in for this shot, so Zhou Zhaolong had to do it. Tie up Wia and do it yourself.
Today's entire shooting task is these "steps". Wu Yue's stand-in jumps on the first level, two people's stand-ins jump on the second level, and Zhou Zhaolong himself jumps on the third level.
Mr. Xie didn't wait for the material to be passed over, then he raised his loudspeaker and shouted, "Let's do it again."
Mr. Xie gave an order, and the photographer who received the instruction from the walkie-talkie turned on the camera, and the stand-in Wu Xing began to "move around."
It’s like really playing parkour in Yucheng.
But suddenly interspersed with a zoom that reduces the depth of field, this spatial relationship is destroyed. In that case, why is there any need for a large long-range lens?
Wu Yue's second consecutive shot of jumping off a building is a long shot of Bai Xiangju looking at the opposite side. This time it is still a stand-in, but with cushions added as protective measures.
Xie Tianfang said no more, walked towards the two stand-ins Wu Xing and gave some instructions, especially the one he was chasing was strictly required to keep a precise distance.
During the second filming, Xie Tianfang, the stand-in who was running in the lead, just jumped off and stopped.
"What I want is naturalness, not complete relaxation. Please don't bring out your own running habits. You'll get in trouble, boss!"
Next, for the third time, after the dance, Xie Tianfang still shook his head and said, "The movements are not good-looking. Let's change the group. A Liang'a boat, you two will get on." For this long shot, Lao Xie tried 4 combinations one after another before saying satisfy.
On the eleventh shooting, Lao Xie, who was observing from a close distance, finally shouted. Unfortunately, after seeing the distant view material passed over, Chen Yiming and Xie Tianfang could only shake their heads helplessly again.
The zoom and foreground avatar are just right, but the stance of the background avatar is a little off.
This is also the reason why Chen Yiming arranged for two cameras to capture the shots. The angle of one camera is more demanding. To achieve the right effect, the stand-in may have to jump off the building more than twice as many times.
Just such a simple scene of running and jumping took a total of fifteen shots, with a total of more than four hours of shooting and stopping, before it met Chen Yiming's requirements.
The long shots are finished, but that doesn’t mean we can move on to the next scene. This was just the part where the stand-in went into battle, and we had to make up for the parts of Wu Yue and Zhou Zhaolong before and after the stand-in came out.
When it comes to posing, these two are the real experts. Once they are used to shooting action scenes, their bodies will naturally adapt to the corresponding rhythm. Where to exert force and where to freeze. Lao Xie doesn’t need to remind or demonstrate. Just walk through it and get it right. It's clear.
Half an hour later, the two people's "connection between the past and the future" was successfully completed, and the crew returned to the highest "step" to shoot the chase scene of Wu Yue's stand-in.
This section is more dangerous because it requires a continuous landing and rolling movement and cannot be covered with soft mats.
Both directors hope to call it a day. After all, one more jump means one more chance of an accident. Although the height of about 5 meters is actually nothing for senior martial arts practitioners.
In the end, I decided to use the angle of chasing the legs from the side and rear, omitting most of the body postures, just to enrich the lens language.
Wu Xing's movements were completed very well, but after Chen Yiming saw it, he still had to say to Mr. Xie with great regret, "Do it again."
The photographer made the mistake of habitual thinking. The foreground was too real, the background was too virtual, and the focus was wrong.
To follow the lower body is to give up the excitement of the lens itself and put the spatial relationship as the first priority in the picture. Otherwise, what is the point of photographing the two legs in perfect detail? It's better to shoot in a studio, it's safer.
Xie Tianfang didn't take it seriously and readily ordered Wu Xing to do it again.
Then the crew struck while the iron was hot and quickly completed the scene of the first stair building. The camera crew ran back and forth to record the surrounding environment of the lowest step in detail, and then jumped from here to the "void jump" part of the opposite stair building. Naturally, it was It is impossible to actually shoot it. The relevant scenes are being set up intensively in the studio of the Magic Film Studio. The materials recorded by the photography team today are mainly needed for post-production special effects.
The executive producers organized the transition of various departments behind the scenes. Chen Yiming and Xie Tianfang walked side by side and chatted.
Chen Yiming came up and thanked him first, "Thank you very much, Teacher Xie. Please also help me say thank you to the martial arts brothers. It's been a hard day today."
Xie Tianfang waved his hand and said with a smile, "Yi Ming is too polite. It's all part of the job. It's their job to thank you for starting work and to enjoy the meal."
Having said this, he continued with emotion, "In the past, there were movies being filmed and work being started, but no one took martial arts as a human being. There were no protection measures at that time. You just had to go on hard. If you don't succeed, someone will take your place." .
Now, contracts are standardized and insurance is available, but the golden age of action movies has passed.
Take your movie as an example. Parkour is just an embellishment, just to make a meal of dumplings for the sake of Chongqing City. Even so, there are very few scenes that require martial arts, and they can only be shot in a studio. If we move in, if we continue like this, the martial arts inheritance will end sooner or later. "
Chen Yiming was speechless after hearing this, because Xie Tianfang's prediction was so accurate. By the time he traveled through his previous life, action movies were already on their deathbed, and even Jackie Chan was taking the stairs.
There are still action scenes, but as Xie Tianfang said, they were all shot in a studio with a blue screen and then added special effects, or it was the kind of COS flow that sends waves through the air.
Each generation has its own movie. No matter how wonderful the previous generation's movies are, they will eventually become memories.
Chen Yiming reluctantly said, "We like the new and dislike the old. Things always go backwards. Cultural trends always come in waves. You never know when action movies will come back."
Xie Tianfang smiled and said, "Yiming, you don't need to comfort me. What's over is over. I'm just a retired old man. If you need me, I'll come out and use my spare energy. If you don't need me, I'll go back and eat." Waiting to die, having been in the industry for more than 40 years, there is nothing to look away from.”
Chen Yiming smiled and said, "It comes in handy, it comes in handy. I always prefer real-life scenes. Only in that way can I have more texture. Thank you, Teacher, for us to collaborate more in the future."
Xie Tianfang obviously didn't take it seriously, he casually cupped his hands and said, "The old man, please thank Director Chen on behalf of my disciples and grandsons.
This time Aaron is going to do it by himself. Yi Ming and I told you that Aaron was a famous go-getter in the circle back then. There were many moves that veteran martial arts practitioners didn’t dare to do, but he followed the order without saying a word. Come on, a height of 5 meters is nothing to him. "
