Chapter 294: The Eightfold Noble Path, the Buddha Speaks of the Sutra of Infinite Life! The Sixteen Pure Land Contemplations, the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss!
The accompanying sound rang out.

Abbot Daoshun glanced at the crowd and his eyes quickly locked on the two people.

One of them is wearing a white coat, looking light and clear-headed, giving people a feeling of being there and not there. The other one is natural and casual, and people don't look at him seriously, and may even subconsciously ignore him.

I just don’t know which of these two people is Li Muxuan.

At this time.

Li Muxuan stepped forward, bowed and said, "Junior Li Muxuan, nice to meet you, senior."

"Oh, no need to be so polite." Abbot Daoshun said kindly, "Your master and I are old friends. I just felt that you and Taoist Zuo are exactly the same. It's just that I have never met before and I am afraid of making a mistake, so I asked several times."

This statement is naturally polite.

But to say they are similar, it is true, it's just that the other one next to it is more similar.

Kong Ming smacked his lips.

I really want to say that if you are poor in a busy city, no one will care about you; if you are rich in the mountains, you will have distant relatives.

If it weren't for Li Muxuan's cultivation and the rumors about him, even if Zuo Rutong came in person, you might not have come all the way here. But having said that, you should never hit a smiling person, and people will praise the disciple for being like the master.

Regardless of whether it is true or not, speaking in a sarcastic manner at this time will only embarrass everyone.

So Kongming immediately changed the subject.

"Thank you for coming here, Senior Brother. But you have already met the person and said the words."

"If you have nothing else to do, please come back another day. I will be discussing Buddhist principles with the young Taoist priest later. I am afraid I will not have time to reminisce with you, let alone entertain you."

Donglin and Xilin Temples are of the same origin.

Therefore, from ancient times to the present, the monks of the two temples have always addressed each other as brothers.

However, even brothers have to settle accounts clearly.

Not to mention fellow disciples.

"is it?"

Daoshun heard this and spoke as if he didn't understand the hidden meaning.

"Discuss Buddhist principles? That's great."

"Although Donglin and Xilin are close, I rarely come to your place once a year. Now that Taoist Li has come to ask for advice, we can discuss it together. I think I have some insights into Buddhist principles."

"My temple is small, so I haven't prepared any vegetarian meals for you."

"It's okay. Donglin and Xilin are only a few miles apart. I will send my disciple there right away."

At this point, Daoshun smiled faintly and said, "Of course, you can also return to Donglin with me. Although my Donglin Temple is not a big temple, we can still afford vegetarian meals, not to mention discussing Buddhist principles. It is not exploration to discuss there."

"Little friend Li, what do you think?"

"Thank you for your kindness, senior."

Li Muxuan said: "Senior Kongming has already ordered people to cook and clean the rooms, and I have already agreed."

"Is that so?" Daoshun's eyes flashed with regret. He was one step slow, and every step was slow. But fortunately he caught up, otherwise he might have already been teaching the Dharma.

Then he turned his head and looked at the disciple beside him.

"Go get some vegetarian food."

"Yes!"

The Donglin Temple disciples nodded immediately and ran towards their home without stopping.

They did not find the abbot's decision strange. After all, although he was an outsider, he was not oblivious to what was happening outside. Not to mention that Li Muxuan had been known as an immortal in recent years. Who in the world didn't know that?
Kong Ming gritted his teeth at this. When did he agree to let you eat here?

Even if the vegetarian meal is from your own home.

But the place is mine!

However, before he could open his mouth, he heard Abbot Daoshun say, "Kongming, don't stand there."

"Since we are discussing Buddhist principles, we naturally have to choose a quiet and secluded place."

Kong Ming couldn't help but twitch his lips when he heard this. I'm lucky enough that I didn't chase you away, but you're ordering me around. Do you really think you're my senior brother and Xilin Temple is your home?
But having said that.

Faced with such a shameless person, he really didn't know what to say for a while.

After all, the other party had asked him to set up a stall in front of the temple.

Think of this.

Kong Ming could only agree with a pinch of his nose.

"I originally thought so, but you came here, Senior Brother, and I forgot about it for a moment."

As he spoke, he looked at Li Muxuan and said, "Young Taoist priest, if you have nothing to do, follow me into the pagoda now. This is the place where my Xilin Temple has always taught the Dharma."

"Thank you, senior."

Li Muxuan bowed and saluted upon hearing this.

When Wu Gensheng saw this, he couldn't help but sigh in his heart that Bu Ran's reputation in the righteous way was at its peak.

The two sides have only just met for a short time.

The Dharma will be spread immediately.

Even if this happened to Zuo Rutong, he would not even dare to think about it.

But then again, faced with such a person who is very likely to become a Buddha and ascend to heaven, I am afraid everyone would want to establish a good relationship with him. Of course, this is also because Bu Ran's character is indeed reliable.

At least so far.

Those sects that passed on his methods suffered no harm and some even benefited from it.

If this isn’t an opportunity to walk, then what is?
Between thoughts.

Abbot Kongming’s voice rang out.

"May I ask which sect this Taoist priest is from? If you don't mind, we can enter the tower together."

"Thank you for your kindness, Master."

Wu Gensheng waved his hand and refused, "I have no sect or school, I am just an ordinary man from the mountains."

"I don't know anything about Buddhism, so I'd better forget it."

"No sect?" Kong Ming narrowed his eyes and smiled, "No problem, since you can travel with Taoist Li, you are probably not a very evil person."

"Besides, we are just gathering together to discuss, not to determine who is better."

"It's okay to just sit by and listen."

"This"

Wu Gensheng's eyes turned strange.

In a sense, I am indeed a very evil person.

Then, he looked at Bu Ran, but saw that the other party didn't say a word, obviously following his wishes. Thinking of this, Wu Gensheng didn't refuse anymore.

After all, these two temples are the abbots.

They are the two main pillars of the Pure Land Sect. Listening to them will always be beneficial to your practice.

Actually, it was all thanks to Bu Ran.

Thinking like this.

Wu Gensheng nodded and agreed, "Since you said so, Master, I would be disrespectful to refuse."

Hearing this, a smile appeared on Kongming's old face. His Pure Land method was different from other methods. It all depended on the word "willpower". In other words, those who practiced Zen Buddhism might not believe in Buddhism, but those who practiced Pure Land Buddhism certainly did.

If this young talent could listen.

From then on, he converted to Buddhism, which just solved the crisis of no successor in Xilin Temple.

When Abbot Daoshun of Donglin saw this scene, he didn't say much, nor did he think of snatching the person away. After all, good karma can be shared, but if Kongming wanted to cut off someone's incense, he would probably have to fight him to the death.

Between thoughts.

No one said much.

Li Muxuan and Wu Gensheng followed Kong Ming into the pagoda, while Lu Jin and Duan Mu Ying were playing outside.

Soon, the group of four entered the tower. The space inside was not large, only about ten square meters, and there were several Buddha statues with different expressions placed around it.

But this is also a characteristic of old buildings.

Firstly, it’s a question of construction level. A seven-story tower like this is too big and prone to collapse.

Secondly, it is influenced by the theory of Feng Shui and Qi Bureau.

The ancients paid attention to storing wind and absorbing qi, and believed that if the area of the house is too large, it will not be conducive to gathering qi, and will accelerate the consumption of qi, which will be harmful to people's physical and mental health.

So whether it is a dhyana room or a place for meditation, the space inside the house is very narrow.

A gleam of light flashed in Li Muxuan's eyes.

Wherever you look, you can see the surrounding Buddha statues emitting a light golden glow, giving people a sense of peace of mind.

"Please take a seat, my two young friends." At this time, Abbot Daoshun found a cushion and sat down familiarly, with a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. It was obvious that he had been to this place many times.

Kong Ming twitched his lips.

But I didn't care.

In terms of Buddhist practice, I might be better than the other person, but as an abbot, I am far behind.

At least I am not as thick-skinned as the other.

"Ah."

Li Muxuan nodded in response.

Afterwards, after the four of them sat down in different directions, Abbot Kongming spoke first.

"Namo Amitabha. Speaking of the practice of the Pure Land Sect, it is not a secret in the practice world. It is just to silently recite the four words Amitabha in your heart."

"The more devout your faith in the Buddha, the higher your cultivation will be, and the stronger your vows will be."

“And the so-called willpower.”

"It's not something obscure or difficult to understand."

At this point, Daoshun took over the conversation: "In Buddhism, there is the concept of self-power and other-power."

"Self-power is the three studies of precepts, concentration and wisdom. For example, Zen, Tiantai, and your Daoism all practice self-power, believing that by relying on one's own power, one can transcend the ordinary and enter the realm of Buddha."

The so-called three studies of precepts, concentration and wisdom are actually very simple.

Precepts refer to the rules of conduct, by observing which one can perfect one's morality; concentration refers to meditation, which brings inner peace; and wisdom refers to intelligence, which enables one to eliminate worries, resolve doubts and attain truth.

Some people call this the Eightfold Noble Path.

Right view, right thinking, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration.

As for self-reliance.

Daoshun did not talk much about it. After all, although the Pure Land Sect also practices self-reliance, it still emphasizes the power of others.

Then Daoshun continued, "People are divided into smart and dull. Those who practice self-power need great perseverance and wisdom to become saints. My Pure Land Dharma is the Dharma of practicing other-power. It is universally applicable to all three types of people, and can accept both the smart and the dull!"

"In order to prevent the difficulty of reciting many words, believers only need to recite the four words Amitabha Buddha."

“Whether you chant loudly, quietly, in a diamond-like manner, or silently in your heart, as long as you chant clearly with your mouth, you can hear clearly with your ears.”

"In this way, the mind will not wander, delusions will gradually subside, the Buddha's thoughts will become purer, and the merit will be the greatest."

"Every time you recite it, your cultivation becomes more refined!"

Li Muxuan nodded. This is also the reason why the Pure Land Sect has the most believers in Buddhism.

Because the threshold for practice is too low.

As for the effect.

In fact, in his opinion, whether chanting Amitabha or chanting odd or even numbers, it does not matter.

The most important thing is inner piety. On the surface, this sincerity seems to be towards the Buddha, but in fact it is towards yourself. After all, you yourself know best whether you are sincere or not.

And if a person can be persistent and honest with himself.

Have no distracting thoughts when reciting the characters.

So whether you are an ordinary person or a practitioner, at least your heart will be calm when you recite this word.

Just as he was thinking, Kongming said, "It doesn't matter what you chant, but the Buddha's appearance is majestic, and believers will feel respect when they chant, and will not have any distracting thoughts."

"Also, although this method can be practiced by people of all abilities, for those with higher abilities, the speed of the wheel is too slow."

"It's just like your meditation retreat."

After that, he took out a scripture from his sleeve and said, "This is my Xilin secret method."

"There are three Pure Land sutras, which are the foundation of the Pure Land School. They are The Sutra of Infinite Life, The Sutra of Contemplation of the Buddha of Infinite Life, and The Sutra of Amitabha."

"Among them, the best is the Amitabha Sutra."

"This scripture is derived from this sutra, and it emphasizes the three wishes for preserving life."

"The nineteenth vow is: If I become a Buddha, sentient beings in the ten directions who have awakened their bodhi minds, cultivated various merits, and sincerely vowed to be reborn in my country, if I do not appear before them with a great crowd at the end of their lives, I will not attain enlightenment."

“The 20th Wish.”

"The Eighteenth Vow."

"These three vows are also called faith, vow and action, and they are based on deep faith, earnest vow and hard work."

At this point, Daoshun shook his head and said, "Faith, aspiration, and practice are the key points of our Pure Land Sect, but if this method is misunderstood, it is easy to fall into the devil's way."

"For example, the Ikko sect of Japan."

"They only put faith first, excluding vows and actions, and deified Amitabha Buddha."

Hearing this, Li Muxuan nodded and said, "I once fought with the abbot of the Yixiang Sect. Their practice emphasizes the good fortune of evil people and only seeks external factors. They believe that as long as one sincerely believes in Buddhism and relies on external forces, one can become a Buddha."

"Have you fought with that person?"

Daoshun was slightly surprised.

Although one was growing flowers and the other was on a Japanese island, the two sides had dealt with each other quite a few times.

Especially during the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the other side often came here to publicize the injustice and atrocities of the Qing army and persuaded themselves and others to revolt. Of course, Donglin did not agree to this.

The relationship between the two sides deteriorated as a result.

However, with the fall of the previous dynasty, there would occasionally be exchanges on Buddhism between the two factions.

After all, no matter what.

Donglin Temple is also recognized as the ancestral temple of Pure Land Buddhism in Japan.

It was also because of this that Daoshun was quite familiar with the abbot of the Ikko sect in Wajima.

He knew that although the other party had taken the path of evil and was somewhat radical, his cultivation was not lower than his own, and his methods were even more amazing. If he fought, he might not be able to capture him.

"Well, let's compare three moves."

Li Muxuan nodded, "He used a method called Pure Land at that time."

“I think it’s to make the inner scene manifest.”

"You were able to fight him for three moves without being defeated, which shows that you have extraordinary skills." Abbot Daoshun's eyes flashed with admiration.

Wu Gensheng had a strange look in his eyes. It was true that he used three moves, but he was not undefeated. Instead, he killed his opponent with three slaps. He didn't need a fourth move at all.

But he hasn't spoken yet.

Then Abbot Daoshun said, "The Pure Land Dharma is also available in our Donglin Temple."

"But the Dharma is just a detail. The important thing is to practice with it."

After saying that, he looked at Kongming. He left in a hurry this time and did not bring the secret method with him. It would also take too much time to speak it verbally. However, the core methods of the Donglin and Xilin temples are the same.

Seeing this, Kongming smiled on his old face.

Let you like to interrupt.

Then, without any delay, he handed the secret method in his hand to Li Muxuan, saying at the same time.

"To practice this method, the first thing to do is to meditate and observe things. There are a total of 16 observations, namely, observation of the sun, observation of water, observation of the earth, observation of trees, observation of the eight meritorious waters, general observation, observation of the lotus throne, observation of the image, observation of the Buddha's body, observation of Guanyin, observation of Vajrasattva, general observation, observation of miscellaneous thoughts, observation of the previous life, observation of the middle life, and observation of the next life."

"The first seven are the contemplation of dependent reward, and the last nine are the contemplation of true reward."

“This method emphasizes the contemplation of the infinitely majestic and extraordinary state of the Western Pure Land.”

"When you have achieved the wonderful practice of visualization and have achieved success in your practice, you can see the wonderful realm of the Pure Land at any time and any place, with your eyes open or closed. It is pure and solemn, and you will transcend the ordinary and enter the realm of sainthood!"

As soon as the words fell, the surrounding environment suddenly changed.

The ground originally paved with granite suddenly turned into clean and smooth colored glass. A tall seven-layer tree appeared behind Kongming. The tree was made of various treasures, with branches, leaves, flowers and fruits intertwined with eight treasures.

See this scene.

There was a gleam in the eyes of Li Muxuan and Wu Gensheng.

Seeing this, Kong Ming smiled.

"This Pure Land was created through decades of meditation and practice. You are gifted and intelligent. If you practice this way diligently, you will achieve this miracle within ten years!"
