Chapter 872: The New Era of Drones

Chapter 872: The New Era of Drones (Fourth Update, Please Subscribe)
Unmanned reconnaissance aircraft?
Once a thought flashed through his mind, it became uncontrollable. Almost subconsciously, Li Yian's mind flashed with a reconnaissance and strike drone from another world.

For example, the famous MQ-9 Reaper drone has carried out countless targeted elimination attacks since it was put into use in the war. For terrorists, it can definitely be called the god of death.

Of course, Li Yian has a clear understanding of things on the technical level. With the current level of technology, it is absolutely impossible to produce such a reconnaissance and strike drone.

But it is entirely possible to make an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft!
With what he had in mind, Li Yian added the suggestion of developing an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft to the report. On the same day, the report was sent to the military and then to the military's technical research institute.

By the time it was delivered to the Air Force Technical Research Laboratory and appeared in front of Feng Dingkang, it was almost time to get off work.

However, this report brought several leaders in the laboratory together.

Liang Zhijie asked.

"How about it, Director Feng, can we implement your suggestion?"

As the head of the research institute, he is well aware of the value of this proposal.

After carefully reading the report from the official residence and closing it, Feng Dingkang said in a serious tone.

"Your Excellency, you are truly a versatile person who is born with knowledge!"

With a sigh, Feng Dingkang said,
"During aerial reconnaissance, it is inevitable that reconnaissance aircraft will be shot down by the enemy, which will inevitably lead to casualties. However, your suggestion fundamentally solves this problem. If unmanned reconnaissance aircraft are used, there is no need to consider the issue of casualties."

After thinking about it, Feng Dingkang said.

"Unmanned reconnaissance aircraft are actually a variant of drones. We have very strong technology in this area."

Nanyang's drone technology originated in Germany. As early as before World War II, Dr. Fritz Guthro of the Argos Engine Factory developed a target aircraft called FZG-43 for the air defense combat training of the German Air Force's ground anti-aircraft artillery. Later, Argos proposed a revolutionary large-scale military radio-controlled unmanned bomber, which can carry a ton of bombs and also has a manned bomber model. After dropping the bomb on the target, the "Deep Fire" drone will return to the base. Although the German Air Force did not pay enough attention to this later, a series of research results completed on this basis gave birth to the later FZG-76-this is the V-1 missile that later shocked the world!
Nanyang's drones were developed based on German drones. In the past few years, they have not only developed new target drones, but have also been widely used in air defense and air force exercises.

Of course, they were not limited to the old German technology. They also launched a plan to improve flight control and navigation technology: including the frequency hopping technology developed by Hedy Lamarr, the television camera of the Nanyang Radio Company and the radar guidance system of the Naval Research Laboratory, which made the control of drones more precise than radio commands. The laboratory also launched a "drone attack aircraft" plan, which could be used to guide missiles to attack enemy air targets, or as an unmanned combat aircraft to bomb enemy ground targets.

Although these are all exploratory studies, they have accumulated rich experience in UAV research and development.

"We can add reconnaissance photography equipment to the drone, and then it will become an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft."

Feng Dingkang started drawing a sketch on paper as he spoke.

"The biggest problem is taking photos. How to take photos effectively? This problem is a bit complicated."

"That's true. Without a pilot in control, how can he automatically take photos when he arrives over the target?"

Liang Zhijie also said this.

"Reconnaissance aircraft are controlled by pilots. After the camera arrives over the target, it is operated by the pilot. But who is controlling this on the drone?"

“The drone operator, of course.”

Drone operators use radio commands from ground control stations to control drones, and the frequency hopping technology studied by Hedy Lamarr has been fully developed in Nanyang over the past decade and has been applied in areas such as drone control. Therefore, they have a certain understanding of drone control. "It's almost just adding one more command."

"But how do drone operators know that the drone has arrived over the target? How can they take pictures if they don't know that the drone has arrived over the target?"

“This question is a bit complicated.”

Feng Dingkang said this and thought about it again.

"What if we use the RCA television camera?"

"Is it a TV camera? This is used to indicate attack targets. The picture he took is not very clear."

Liang Zhijie said,
"That means I can barely see the picture clearly."

"It's enough to be able to see the picture clearly, as long as the drone operator can see the target on the ground clearly, and then send a radio command to use the onboard reconnaissance camera to take a picture of the target."

Feng Dingkang has his own ideas about the use of drones.

"Of course, we can also cooperate with the radio company to develop more advanced cameras that can take clearer pictures. In this way, we don't even need to use reconnaissance cameras."

Feng Dingkang continued to daydream.

"Then the military could even use it directly for aerial reconnaissance."

"You mean using TV cameras to spy on ground targets?"

"Yes, that's right."

Feng Dingkang nodded.

"You know, the biggest problem with using aerial reconnaissance aircraft for reconnaissance is that after the aircraft takes pictures, they need to be recovered. First, the camera must be removed and the film must be processed. This is more effective for large fixed strategic targets such as factories and bases, but for field military targets, such as enemy tank assembly areas and artillery firing positions, they may move and change during the information processing process. In this way, aerial reconnaissance is meaningless. If unmanned reconnaissance aircraft use television cameras, we can find those targets in real time, and then provide the artillery or the air force with information such as the number and coordinates of the targets through the ground control station. Then we can directly launch an attack, or even use it to guide the attack."

Feng Dingkang's words made Liang Zhijie a little excited.

"This means we have countless pairs of eyes in the sky, and the battlefield is completely open to us."

"Yes, it is a unilateral opening. At that time, each infantry regiment can be equipped with unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, and the navy can also be equipped with it. Then use it to conduct aerial reconnaissance, find the target, and then guide our long-range strike force to carry out long-range strikes on it."

When the two of them were talking about unmanned reconnaissance aircraft in the office of the Air Force Technical Research Laboratory last night, they didn't know what kind of future they were opening up. However, many times, things develop like this, one idea drives another, and eventually brings many changes.

When the change first started, no one would notice it.
