Chongzhen revived the Ming Dynasty
Chapter 280 There is permanent property and there is no permanent property
The article "On Constant Property" was soon placed on Zhu Youjian's desk together with Qian Qianyi's other articles.
After seeing this article, Zhu Youjian didn’t know how to evaluate it:
"This Qian Qianyi is truly worthy of his surname Qian!" 』
"This is not the theory of permanent property. It is obviously the theory of property ownership, and it is a fallacy to promote the interests of property owners. 』
"What place does a person who is not a scholar and has no permanent property have in his theory?" 』
In Qian Qianyi's theory, apart from persevering scholars, the people can be divided into two types:
Have constant wealth and perseverance;
No permanent output, no perseverance.
It seems to be an elaboration of Mencius' theory, but it is actually a big fallacy.
Perseverance is a kind-hearted thing that people always have. Does a person who has a permanent fortune necessarily have perseverance?
Even if a person without permanent property is not a scholar, doesn’t he have perseverance?
However, Qian Qianyi did not consider this possibility at all. Instead, he compared permanent property with perseverance, believing that if there is permanent property, there will be perseverance, and if there is no permanent property, there will be no perseverance.
This kind of mechanical application of Mencius's remarks will definitely be pointed out as absurd and resisted as more people become literate.
But at this time, Qian Qianyi's theory can confuse many people.
Because nowadays those who can read and make sounds are basically scholars, and scholars must have perseverance in Qian Qianyi's definition. So these people will not oppose Qian Qianyi's theory.
People with permanent wealth will naturally like this theory even more when they see it. They will be happy to package themselves and use things like building bridges and paving roads to show that they are moral and perseverant.
The vast majority of people who do not have permanent property and are illiterate are unconsciously labeled by Qian Qianyi as having no perseverance, thinking that they are "unconventional and extravagant, doing everything for their own sake" and are a source of instability.
What will they think when they become literate in the future?
How can this theory with great consequences be recognized by Zhu Youjian?
Therefore, Qian Qianyi's "Lun on Constant Production" must be revised, otherwise he cannot be published——
After all, this article has been submitted. If it is published like this, people will definitely think that they agree with the theory in the article.
Of course, Zhu Youjian cannot take the blame and be hated by people who have no permanent property in the future.
"As soon as the idea of Datong was proposed, Qian Qianyi responded positively. Such ministers should be encouraged and not discouraged. 』
"Moreover, Qian Qianyi proposed that everyone should have permanent property and perseverance, and enter a world of great harmony, which is of progressive significance. 』
"This article should be revised before being published. 』
Thinking of this, Zhu Youjian felt happy. Because he thought about the consequences of Qian Qianyi not submitting this article and sending it out directly.
In this case, this article is likely to become a guideline for property owners, and the impact it will have is extremely bad.
So after Zhu Youjian considered it, he took up a pen and wrote the words "To be rich is not benevolent, to be benevolent is not to be rich", and asked Qian Qianyi to add the content of criticizing people who have permanent property but no perseverance, and to praise people who have no permanent property but have perseverance. It is believed that although these people are not as good as scholars in some aspects, they are still very moral. They should be selected as moral models and the outstanding ones should be praised as scholars. The title of Duke established by the court can be awarded to them.
After adding these two points, the article "On Constant Production" is much improved.
But in Zhu Youjian's view, it is still not enough, because the core of Qian Qianyi's theory is to allow everyone to have permanent property and perseverance, and to enter a world of great harmony where material wealth is greatly enriched and moral realm is greatly improved. But there is no mention of on-demand allocation, which is very inappropriate. Therefore, he clearly pointed out that material wealth in a world of great harmony should be in public ownership. In order to achieve distribution according to needs and allow everyone to develop freely and comprehensively.
Industries in a well-off world should also have public ownership. Moreover, it goes hand in hand with the private property of property owners and can exist at the same time.
The theoretical basis still comes from Mencius, which Zhu Youjian understood when he proposed the well-field system some time ago:
"Mencius" said: There is a well in a square mile, and the well is nine hundred acres; among them is public land, and eight families all privately own one hundred acres, and they all raise the public land. 』
"This is a mixture of public and private property, mixed ownership!" 』
Add this passage and let Qian Qianyi analyze it in depth. It is necessary to make people accept the imperial court's management of industries as a basis for the imperial court to monopolize or invest in certain industries and share the fruits of development with property owners.
At the same time, in terms of distribution methods, Zhu Youjian proposed that before realizing distribution on demand in a world of great harmony, a moderately prosperous world can implement distribution according to production factors, using labor, technology, capital, land, management and other production factors to share industrial profits.
For these reasons, he asked Qian Qianyi to go to the Beijing News Group to investigate and make a theoretical summary of dividends for management and workers.
Lin Zongzong wrote a lot, and Zhu Youjian finally raised a question, that is, if people with permanent property continue to accumulate, their property will be more and more.
If those wealthy families take too much, how can others have permanent assets?
Will there be super-proprietors who control many industries and hinder people from moving towards a world of great harmony?
Should the court levy taxes on such people and expropriate their excess land, houses and other fixed assets to use them to relieve others?
These contents were all annotated by Zhu Youjian. Let Qian Qianyi revise the articles and package them with Confucian concepts.
After Qian Qianyi received it, he immediately felt like he had found a treasure. He was not afraid that the emperor would comment on many things, but he was afraid that the emperor would ignore them and not communicate with him.
Now it seems that the emperor is still willing to communicate with him. I just think his concept is too crude and has many problems.
Especially in the last paragraph, the emperor's proposal to tax the super wealthy made him break into a cold sweat. He realized that the theory of permanent property he proposed would not necessarily allow many people to have permanent property, and might even create the super wealthy. Producers hinder the progress towards a world of great harmony.
From this point of view, he even vaguely thought of the relationship between land annexation and refugee rebellion. It is very likely that the landlords and gentry have occupied too much land, leaving more and more people without permanent property and therefore without perseverance.
This idea made Qian Qianyi a little scared. Because he realized that the revised "Eternal Property Theory" was contrary to his original intention.
When he first wrote "On Permanent Property", he was inspired by Mencius' "Those who have permanent property have perseverance" to defend his own wealth. People who think that they have permanent wealth and are not happy in poverty are also very perseverant.
But after seeing the emperor's annotation, he found that his justification was simply untenable——
It is true that Mencius said that those who have permanent property will have perseverance, but Mencius never said that the more permanent property, the more perseverance will be.
Even those who are super wealthy will affect other people's ability to own permanent property. On the contrary, they are a major obstacle to entering a world of great harmony.
In terms of Qian Qianyi’s family property, he is undoubtedly a super wealthy person——
His family property could not be earned by ordinary people in a thousand years.
So according to the emperor, he was actually the obstacle to entering the world of great harmony.
Knowing this, how could Qian Qianyi not feel crushed? (End of chapter)
