After being forced to retire and join the CIA, Chen Yu only wanted to earn official contracts with his superb killing skills. He was unwilling to waste the skills he had worked so hard to acquire.

The beliefs of Chen Yu’s character are more like machines that carry out their missions and kill people in the process, just like American soldiers who are sent by politicians to plunder around the world in the name of peacekeeping.

Del Toro's belief is to avenge his wife and daughter, but when he personally kills the mastermind behind the drug cartel, he becomes disgusted, hostile and hateful towards the drug cartel.

The character played by Del Toro can shoot the relatives, friends and neighbors of drug dealers without any psychological burden. Chen Yu and Del Toro are not much different from drug dealers in terms of cruelty. In fact, they often use any means to achieve their goals and despise life.

This is the main theme that "Sicario 2" wants to convey to the audience: everyone is a villain and a devil in terms of their methods, but Chen Yu's side has the backing of America.

In the war on drugs launched by the United States and supported by Mexico, the most victims are ordinary people, and the most destroyed are trust, conscience, and humanity.

Be it Sheridan or director Villeneuve, they do not deny the effects and achievements of the war on drugs.

But the two wanted to speak out through this work. America and Mexico could have done a good job, but the politicians chose bloody ideas and methods to deal with the problem.

Politicians who pretend to be ignorant and executives like Chen Yu and del Toro have shifted all the costs of the drug war onto the Mexican people.

In the "Sicario" series constructed by Sheridan, there is no clear good or evil, and all the characters serve politics or power, money and desire.

Director Villeneuve repeatedly uses religious symbols and music in killing scenes, which also echoes this worldview.

Chen Yu, Del Toro and Thanos are like crusaders, wielding their swords to chop down all heretics, regardless of gender, age or status.

Quentin said that the concept of "Sicario 2" is much easier to impress the award judges than "Sicario 1".

As for the box office, there is no need to worry as long as the plot is tense enough and the scenes are hot enough. Quentin is very confident that this work will once again achieve a double harvest of box office and word of mouth.

And thus continue the commercial value and potential of the series. To be honest, if this work had not been directed by Villeneuve, it would have been marked with a strong personal style.
