Chapter 173: The whole house is full of virtuous people, and all the words are golden lotus

The debate meeting was held in the newly built Juxian Hall of Taixue. The size of the Juxian Hall was not much smaller than the main hall where Emperor Weiyang Palace held court meetings. Its shape was square on the outside and round on the inside. The height of the hall was about five meters. meters, divided into two floors, with a circular stone platform in the middle, about one meter high, and stone steps around the stone platform to facilitate speakers to get on the stage.

With the stone platform as the center, grass futons are displayed around it. In the south facing north, there is a protruding pavilion with a stand specially set up for the royal family or distinguished people. The Han emperor and his family sat on it. In addition, There are also special guests, Bai Gong and Bai Qing, and his son, Lang Zhongling Bai Jun, who has become one of the Nine Qings.

There are thousands of seats in the Juxian Pavilion, and it is only half full at this time, but these half of the people are almost the smartest people in the entire Han Dynasty. If they are lost, the entire Han Dynasty and even the civilization of Zhuxia will stagnate for fifty years.

Shusun Tong stood up, walked to the center of the hall, saluted all around, and then said loudly:

"My knowledge all comes from the Spring and Autumn Annals. However, this "Spring and Autumn Annals" is not the other "Spring and Autumn Annals". Let me first explain to you the inheritance of Confucianism! Nowadays, all the "Spring and Autumn Annals" of various schools and clans in the world are attributed to Confucian ancestors. The reason for the annotation of "Spring and Autumn" written by Saint Confucius is that Confucius' work is too profound and cannot be started by people who are not talented and intelligent or who have the words and deeds of great Confucian scholars.

It is roughly divided into four schools. There is the "Gu Liang Chun Qiu" that I have learned, which was annotated by the Confucian sage Gu Liangzi Gu Liang Chi based on the teachings of Zi Xia, one of the seventy-two sages who were disciples of Confucius; there is the "Bai Shi Chun Qiu" written by It was written by the Confucian sage Bai Zibai Shi; Gongyang Chunqiu was written by the Confucian sage Gongyangzi Gongyang Gao;
There is also something special about the book "Zuo Shi Chun Qiu". It was not written by Confucian sages, but was compiled by Confucian disciples with the help of historical books written by Zuo Qiuming, the historian of the Spring and Autumn Period. These are probably some of my Confucian heritages.

And my "Gu Liang Chun Qiu" advocates respecting the king. The king is where the people go, that is, if the hearts of the people in the world surrender to the emperor, then the world can be governed and the people of the world can follow the etiquette and teach benevolence.

Therefore, the emperor should be a role model for the world, and everyone should follow the emperor's behavior as their own standards. Therefore, the emperor's behavior should not be restricted, because the emperor is elected by the people, and his behavior has its own rules and reasons.

Secondly, the emperor should also be considerate of the people and not start war easily. As an old saying goes, one move affects the whole body. As long as there is a war, the people's taxes and corvees will inevitably increase, and the people's livelihood will inevitably become stronger. Therefore, the emperor should attach importance to the people's livelihood and despise war.

Finally, our Guliang sect attaches great importance to the feelings of the clan, imitating the past and predicting the present. Only with family harmony can the industry prosper, and the emperor is even more so. Only brothers, friends and brothers can set an example for the world. If the royal family can be stable, how can the world be in chaos? ?

If you want family harmony, you must cultivate benevolence, that is, father, father, son, king, minister, everything must be courteous, and everything must be courteous. A father behaves like a father, and a son behaves like a son. To be a king, you should behave like a king, and to be a minister, you should behave like a minister. ···”

Shusuntong Balabala talked for an hour, and finally finished explaining his political philosophy and the advantages of his school of thought. Many people below kept slapping the wooden floor next to the futon and shouting: "Color!"

Even the Han Emperor was very happy. Although some of the opinions he disagreed with, most of them still won the heart of the Han Emperor, so he kept patting the floor next to him to applaud his teacher.

The second person to appear was Zheng Shi, a great scholar who studied "Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals".

When he came to the stage, he saluted all around as usual, and then said: "Just now, Mr. Shusun has already explained the inheritance of Confucianism very clearly, so I won't elaborate on it here. Everyone knows that I am studying "Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals" , then I will talk about "Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals".

"Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals" was written by Master Bai, the sage of Confucianism. Master Bai was the son of the sage Bai Ting. Both father and son studied under Confucius. He is one of the few disciples of Confucius in our Confucian sect.

Bai Shizi and Bai Tingzi were both there when Confucius wrote "Spring and Autumn", so they are the people closest to Confucius's thoughts. I think no one would disagree with this. Secondly, "Bai's Spring and Autumn" incorporates a large number of real events. events, all thanks to Bai's hundreds of thousands of years of book collection, which is very helpful for ordinary people to understand the ideas of their ancestor Confucius.

In addition, because of the special identities of Bai Zi and his son, Confucian disciples who studied "Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals" can apply what they have learned within the Bai Kingdom. They do not have to be like other Confucian disciples who seek official positions but often run into obstacles. As a result, they cannot accumulate much. Good practical experience.

On the other hand, this is not the case for the Bai Confucian disciples. After hundreds of years of development, the Bai Confucian disciples have accumulated very profound political experience in the Bai country. Because of the classics and letters that the Bai family sacrificed their lives to protect during the Qin Dynasty, they also have a world-wide influence. The most complete governance system will not appear immature.

Let me talk about the main point of my "Bai Shi Chun Qiu", that is, the ruler must be benevolent and the people must be benevolent. The "Book of Mencius" written by our sage Mencius says that the people value the ruler second. Regardless of whether the emperor agrees or not, there are countless people in this world. The common people gathered together, this is a fact.

Therefore, by extension, as a monarch, you must be light on corvee and low on taxes, liberate the people, and make sure that the people are well fed and clothed warmly. In this way, no one in this country will be able to shake it.

Secondly, regarding the relationship between people, we agree with part of Mr. Shusun’s views. We believe that family harmony is very important for the world, and we do not overemphasize the importance of the male host. We believe that the importance of the female host The same goes for sex.

This can be proved from the current situation of the Bai Kingdom in the past dynasties, as well as the prosperity of Chaoge today. We believe that the status of the hostess in the family is as important as the male host, especially whether a good hostess can determine the family or family. Whether it is going to prosper or decline, there is an ancient saying: the sun and the moon shine together, if only the yang does not grow, the yin does not grow. As for the relationship between the Xia and the foreign barbarians, we advocate internal kingship and external hegemony, that is, the king should act royally towards the people of his country and treat his people as his own relatives; the king should treat the foreign barbarians as hegemony, We must try our best to suppress them, and then educate them. If they do not agree with the education, then teach them until they agree with our point of view. ···”

Zheng Shi also talked for about an hour. It was the first time for many people to listen to the views of "Bai's Spring and Autumn Annals". Compared with the views of the Guliang School, which were too soft, the Gongyang School, which was too strong, and the Zuo Chuan, which was too objective, Bai's views were too soft. It is said that this doctrine of combining hardness and softness is in line with the psychological assumptions of some people.

In particular, Bai Chuanzhong's views on the attitude towards women aroused Empress Lu's interest. She always thought that Bai Chuanzhong and the Guliang School were the same as some differences in governing views, so they were used as reference books for handling government affairs in the past. When she heard it today, she realized that women occupy such an important position in the world, and she suddenly became interested.

When Zheng Shi came off the stage, Empress Lu also slapped the floor happily and kept saying to others: "Cai!"

This attracted Han Emperor's frequent glances, and he couldn't help but wonder, what happened to his mother today? I have never seen her like "Bai's Spring and Autumn" so much before! The queen, on the other hand, didn't have deep feelings because she had been exposed to it a lot, but she still cooperated by tapping the floor.

Judging from the sound and duration of the slapping on the floor, it was obvious that "Bai Shi Chun Qiu" was more marketable than "Gu Liang Chun Qiu". Shusun Tong couldn't help but smile bitterly. Fortunately, the Confucianists had already agreed before that they should put aside the past. Let Confucianism squeeze out other schools of thought first and occupy a position in Taixue, and then discuss the academic disputes between them.

The third one is no longer a great sage of Confucianism, but a master of political strategists. When he came to the stage, he first talked about the achievements of Su Qin and Zhang Yi, the two sages of his school, and then stated the importance of diplomacy between countries and between people. Finally, he expressed what he thought was the Han's attitude towards the Xiongnu, as well as his attitude and methods towards other foreigners.

The Han Emperor also fully recognized their methods against the Xiongnu and surrounding foreign barbarians, and appointed the master strategist as the Dian Cheng of his subordinate country on the spot, with a rank of 1,500 shi.

The eyes of other people who wanted to become officials turned red when they saw it, so the subsequent lectures became even more intense. A Mohist master who came from the construction site with wet mud on his feet and body,

There are Legalist criminal masters who are strict in their behavior, military strategists who have just returned from the border with evil spirits, and Taoist masters who walk leisurely and unhurriedly.

There were those who slapped and cheered, some who stood back and boasted, some who threw shoes on the stage, and some who were giving speeches and arguing with those in the audience.

There was a lecture on the stage, but there was already a fight in the audience. Fortunately, the Han Emperor was present and called in the guards to separate them. However, some of them were still beaten into the Imperial Hospital.
The Emperor of the Han Dynasty also saw how powerful this group of usually good gentlemen can be when dealing with heresies and heresies. Fortunately, everyone who came in had their swords confiscated. Otherwise, I don’t know how many people were hospitalized and how many people were admitted to the hospital. People are buried.

This grandest academic debate in history lasted for a month. During this month, the Han emperor handed over all political affairs to the left and right prime ministers and the queen mother, and he took the queen to sit in the Juxian Pavilion to prevent accidents.

As early as the seventh day, Duke Bai couldn't support it anymore and asked Emperor Han to return home early. Emperor Han agreed when he saw that Bai Qing was really tired.

March 5
So this competition between physical strength and intelligence officially ended today. In the first half of the month, it was mainly a competition between the elderly academic leaders. Later, the leaders could not keep up physically, so they had to go back to the dormitory to rest and let His disciples fought instead, so the battle in the second half was extremely fierce.

Unlike the first half where the big guys argued because of physical strength, cultivation, or personality, the debates were all within a limited range, and the swords and swords were all inside and outside the words, and ordinary people couldn't notice it at all.

In the second half, after these young disciples of the big guys came on the court, they showed their young side.
In addition to daily verbal abuse, there are also people who are shameless. When they see the person opposite them being much older than themselves, they take advantage of their young age and keep irritating their opponents with words. They never agree to end it.

The referee had no choice but to let them debate, and sent a young referee to accompany them, so that the next game could continue.
In the end, this young man with no martial ethics successfully took advantage of his youth and ability to stay up late. On the fifth day, after changing more than a dozen referees,

Opposing him was an outstanding disciple of the great sect who was in his early fifties, thirty years older than himself, and a late bloomer. He endured it and entered Taiyuan Hospital, and won the final victory.

Because of this person, there are basically very few people over the age of thirty who play in subsequent schools, and almost no people over the age of forty.

When the time came, Emperor Han asked these scholars to go down to rest, and said that in ten days, the final results and candidates for the doctorate would be displayed.
