Chapter 212 The 4-legged dragon sends envoys

Chapter 212 The four-legged dragon sends envoys (Part )
At the Tashi Chodzong Palace in Thimphu, Bhutan, the four-legged dragon flag is hunting in the wind. Due to the abundance of thunder and lightning in the country, the four-legged dragon is regarded as the god of thunder. Tibetans believe that thunder is the roar of a dragon. This flag is the symbol of Drukpa Kagyu leader, a branch of the Kagyu sect. The sound "bamboo" means dragon in Tibetan. Therefore, the country is also called the Kingdom of Dragons.

Ngawang Namgyal is meditating with his eyes closed at the Fatai of Jiari Monastery and Zhabdrung (the leader’s self-proclaimed name, meaning “Subordinate, Your Excellency”). At the age of forty-eight, he has gone through many vicissitudes of life and is now in the most glorious moment of his life. He is both a great monk and a king, and the founding monarch who unified Bhutan.

This legendary great monk was born in the Gyalze (Jia) family in the Gyantse area. He is a descendant of Zangpa Gyalre Yeshe Dorje, the founder of Drukpa Kagyu. He was born in Drukqiang Qulin, the ancestral temple of Drukpa Kagyu. His grandfather Mipanqu Both Jie and his father, Denpainima, are the religious leaders (de facto leaders) of Relong Monastery, the main monastery of Drukpa Kagyu. When he was eight years old, he received the novice ordination from his grandfather Mipan Qujie and ascended the lion throne at Drukqiang Quling Temple. At the age of thirteen, he became the 18th Drukpa Kagyu leader.

That year, Master Drukchen of Drukpa Kagyu (the master of Relong Temple and the incarnation of the leader Yeshe Dorje) passed away. Revolving around the reincarnation of the great monk, the Jia family had conflicts with the Hall family of Shannan Qiongjie. Inconsistency. The Hall family was supported by Ziva Ngawang Sangpo, the abbot of Dechen Chokuo Monastery, another major Drukpa Kagyu monastery, Bawo master of Lodzha, and Zangba Khan Xinshaba Phuntsok Namgyal.

Xinshapa Phuntsok Namgyal is the father of the current Zangba Khan Xinshapa Tenjong Wangpo. He belongs to the Karma Kagyu, another branch of the Kagyu sect. It is said that he is not qualified to manage the Drukpa Kagyu's household affairs, but he is Leng Shi took care of it and sent troops to prepare to attack Relong Temple with force. Ngawang Namgyal was unable to resist, so he led many of his followers across the Himalayas and fled to Bhutan (Brukba) in the Year of the Fire Dragon (1616) in the Tibetan calendar.

At that time, Bhutan was leaderless, and various sects had built branch monasteries in Bhutan. After he arrived in Bhutan, he was welcomed by the Otsopa family and other local monks and laymen of the Drukpa Kagyu sect, so he tried to establish a monastery in Bhutan. A unified political power centered on the Drukpa Kagyu Sect. This move was fiercely resisted by the other two branches of the Kagyu sect, Lhapa Kagyu and Nainingpa Kagyu. They formed an alliance of "five monks" and asked for help from the then Zangba Khan Phuntsok Namgyal. However, the Sakya sect and monks from the Nyingma sect surrendered to him,

Phuntsok Namgyal sent his troops to attack Bhutan and reached Paro in western Bhutan. He once occupied the Drukquxiang and other monasteries. Drukpa Kagyu's disciple Lumeseppo gathered an army, defeated the enemy and beheaded Lagu Nai. The head, hands and heart of the enemy general were pierced with a flagpole and placed in Jiari Temple as a protector.

Phuntsok Namgyal was unwilling to fail and vowed to take revenge. So the four-legged dragon or the representative of the thunder god in the human world, the great monk Ngawang Namgyal, went to the altar to cast a spell and curse the Zangba Khan. A magical scene happened. Phuntsok Namgyal really fell ill and died, and his son Danjong Wangpo succeeded to the throne of Serzangpa.

Instigated by the "Five Monks", the new Zangpa Khan Tengyong Wangpo conquered Bhutan twice in 1634 and 1639, but failed to conquer them. Instead, Bhutan achieved de facto independence. The great monk Ngawang Namgyal also completed the unification of Bhutan during this process, obtained the title of "Zhabdrung", and became the leader of the unity of politics and religion.

This great monk not only knows how to recite sutras, but also has a way of governing the country. He will follow him 30 monks to form the core of power called "Dracang", and build the Zhaxi Quzong Palace in Thimphu and Tangde Qinpo Zhang in Punakha State as the winter palace of "Dracang" respectively and Summer Palace, giving Bhutan two capitals. Based on the "Ten Good Dharmas" of Buddhism and the "Sixteen Dharmas" of Tubo, he compiled the "Jiayou Qinbo" code and divided Bhutan into the western part with Paro Dzong as the center, the central part with Daga Dzong as the center and In the east, with Zhongsa Sect as the center, these three places are managed by "Jila Benluo (monk chief)".

Not only literary, but also martial arts. He learned advanced military technology from Portuguese missionaries such as Kassela who visited Bhutan, and obtained a large amount of ammunition, muskets, artillery, telescopes and other supplies from the Portuguese. It is precisely because of its special emphasis on military affairs that small Bhutan has been able to defeat the invasion of the powerful Zangba Khan many times.

Finally, the meditation was over. The great monk Ngawang Namgyal took a long breath and felt that the altar was clear and bright.

"Zha Zhong", Weng Ze (the leading reciter) Duozengsan Danrejie called softly. Only then did the great monk realize that there was someone sitting next to him while he was meditating. He smiled kindly and said: "You are getting more and more determined. After waiting for so long, there is no sound. Tell me, what do you want to report?"

Although he had kind eyebrows and kind eyes, Duozeng Sandanrejie knew that his master had gone through many major events such as moving south to found the country and resisting invasion. He was most decisive in killing and never allowed to be neglected. "Zhabdrung, Tenzin, the younger brother of King Senglangya of Ladakh, is here."

"Oh, what is he doing here?" Monk Ngawang Namgyal's kind eyebrows jumped, and his eagle eyes were bright and sharp.

After the founding of the country, Bhutan has maintained friendly relations with neighboring countries except Zangpa Khan. Among them, the closest friendly country is the Kingdom of Ladakh. At that time, the Kingdom of Ladakh became very powerful under the leadership of King Sengelangya. It not only incorporated the vast Ngari area into its territory, but also established a donor relationship with the Drukpa Kagyu Sect. Sengelangyal supported Ngawang Namgyal and regarded him as his root guru, and sent his younger brother Tenzin to Bhutan to assist Bhutan in resisting Zangpa Khan; Ngawang Namgyal also sent Dozin Sandenregye to attack Guge from the south. The kingdom's "Qizhuo" (external pasture) helped Sengerangjia annex the Guge Kingdom. In order to express his gratitude, after annexing the Guge Kingdom, Sengelangjia donated the monastery of Dachen Ladrang around the Gangdise Mountains to the great monk Ngawang Namgyal.

In short, the Kingdom of Ladakh and Bhutan both believe in Drukpa Kagyu and have established an offensive and defensive alliance, making them close allies.

"Zhabdrung, I tested Tenzin's intention. According to him, King Sengela Langgya accepted Zangpa Khan Tengyong Wangpo's request for help and prepared to send troops to Shigatse. He wants to invite you to go with him." Rejie said.

"Rescue Zangpa Khan? Is Sengela Langgya crazy and forgetting that they are the Karma Kagyu and we are the Drukpa Kagyu?" Ngawang Namgyal was shaking with anger and shouted angrily.

Once upon a time, his family was the supreme ruler of Shigatse. Both the Renbengba family and the current Xinxiaba family were just servants serving their families. Nowadays, the slaves are bullying their masters, and Zangba Khan of the Xinshaba family has taken over the power of Tibet. He has also sent troops to conquer himself many times, and the two sides have developed hatred. Therefore, he was unwilling to rescue Zangba Khan.

"Zhabdrung, shall I send Tenzin back?" Duozengsan Danrejie asked for instructions.

"That's not necessary." After all, he was an eminent monk. He quickly regained his composure, and the anger just now was hard to see from his face. "Let our allies come in," he ordered calmly.
