Chapter 42 A tragic victory
The sound of metal clashing was incessant on the battlefield. After a long time, the top of the city was covered with blood. The Yellow Turbans maintained a high-intensity attack without stopping until the earliest bloodstains had dried up.

The four to five meter high city wall has become a death line, with new souls being born here every moment.

Thanks to the early preparations, Gu'an County made a lot of arrangements at the city gate, the weakest point in the city, almost completely blocking the city gate. No matter how hard the Yellow Turbans tried, they could not break through.

The Yellow Turbans had no choice but to focus their attack on the more difficult city climbing operation.

Even if it is just a low wall of a small city, it can pose a great obstacle to the attacker. The officers and soldiers can use various means of defense from a high position, but the Yellow Turbans can only use their physical bodies to withstand the attack.

If it were an ordinary Yellow Turban, lacking in equipment and with soldiers of varying quality, they would have given up fighting by now, resting and reorganizing before they would be able to organize a second attack given the evenly matched forces.

However, Wang Dang led the Yellow Turbans in battle and showed no intention of stopping.

Wang Dang knew very well that the Yellow Turbans’ current situation left no room for them to slowly waste time with the officers and soldiers; every day was a matter of life and death.

Either they take the county town by force or withdraw directly. Otherwise, if they are blocked by the pursuing soldiers, they will be dead.

The high-intensity continuous fighting is a huge test for the physical strength and willpower of both sides. They have entered the stage of gritting their teeth and holding on, and it depends on who will give up first.

This battle lasted from morning to afternoon. The frenzied attack of the Yellow Turbans left both sides with no time to even drink water or eat food. As time went on, the high-intensity combat had become too much for the officers and soldiers.

Moreover, the supplies for defending the city were gradually being used up, and more and more of them had no choice but to pick up swords and fight the Yellow Turbans in close combat.

But these were not the things that frightened the officers and soldiers. What really frightened them were these almost crazy Yellow Turbans!
This was not the first time they had fought against the Yellow Turbans, but the Yellow Turbans before them seemed unfamiliar to them. No matter what means they used, they could not make the Yellow Turbans retreat even a little bit.

These Yellow Turbans are like rubber bands that cannot be broken, torn or stretched. No matter how fierce the battle ahead is, they will continue to rush forward. As soon as you kill one Yellow Turban, the next one will immediately appear with red eyes. No matter how hard you try, you can never kill them all.

No one knew when it started, but the Yellow Turbans climbed onto the city walls more and more often, and it became increasingly difficult for them to force them back.

As the battle dragged on, the officers and soldiers gradually felt heavy-hearted. Being on the battlefield, they could already feel the subtle changes in the situation.

Wang Dang, a Yellow Turban general, also keenly sensed that the situation was tilting in his favor.

He knew that the opportunity to fight had come, so he climbed up the ladder with a few kicks, and instantly took out the lives of two officers and soldiers with his left and right swords. Then he jumped up and waved his long sword to force back the enemy.

During this gap, he shouted angrily.

"Brothers, keep up the good work. Our army has a chance to win. Follow me to charge and capture the city. Let all the unjust people go to hell!"

The sound echoed throughout the city walls, but his hands were not idle. On the top of the city wall, he dodged the soldiers' hacking and stabbing, while fighting hard to kill the enemy, occupying this small opening tightly and providing support for the Yellow Turbans behind him to climb the city wall.

Soon, he felt the pressure in front of him suddenly eased, and it turned out that all the brothers behind him had made up for it.

They have already completely established a foothold on the city wall. As long as they expand their offensive, they can declare the city a success!
The Gu'an County Magistrate looked over and became immediately anxious when he saw the situation. At this time, the Yellow Turbans must be suppressed, otherwise the county would be doomed!
His eyes immediately locked on Wang Dang, who was charging at the forefront of the Yellow Turbans.

As long as we kill the evil general, we will be able to reverse the situation!

Perhaps due to his keen sense of murderous intent, Wang Dang slowly pulled the knife out of the abdomen of an officer. The next second, his eyes unconsciously looked over and his gaze instantly collided with the county lieutenant.

The same thought echoed in his mind. In close combat, it was a fight of life and death.

They tacitly ignored the soldiers around them, shouted loudly, and rushed towards each other. Suddenly, the sounds of swords and metal rang out.

Both of them were good fighters. When they were fighting, there were flashes of swords and shadows of sabers, which were very dangerous. They prevented other soldiers from getting close to them. Within a few meters, there were only the two of them attacking each other.

The county lieutenant was very skilled in swordsmanship, his long-faced slashes were steady and powerful, and he always attacked at the vital points, which made it difficult for Wang Dang to display his brute force, and he had to be careful to protect himself.

If you are careless at this time, you may die.

While Wang Dang was fighting so hard that he was suffocating, the county lieutenant was not having an easy time either. Wang Dang lacked skills but had strength in brute force. Every time the two men clashed with their swords, the county lieutenant felt his arms numb from the shock. After fighting for more than ten rounds, the base of his knuckles began to crack.

At first, the two were evenly matched, but as time went on, the strength of the two gradually became clear, and in the end, Wang Dang was still better.

Seeing that the county lieutenant's moves were gradually weakening, Wang Dang fought more and more fiercely. He slashed with his sword with great force, and the county lieutenant also blocked with his sword, but this time the county lieutenant was obviously unable to resist.

The huge force transmitted almost made the county lieutenant's sword slip out of his hand. Although he finally held it tightly, his body lost its balance, and after a stumble, the entire middle gate was exposed.

As the cold light flashed, the county lieutenant's pupils constricted, but no matter what he did, it was useless. He only felt a chill on his neck and then he lost consciousness.

Wang Dang grabbed the county lieutenant's head, covered in blood, and laughed up to the sky.

"The dog official is dead, why don't you surrender!"

The sound of explosions echoed on the city walls. The officers and soldiers turned their heads to look, and they were all shocked. The battlefield, which had been so noisy just now, suddenly became silent.

When the officers and soldiers saw that even the county lieutenant was gone, they no longer had any hope. They were already frightened by the Yellow Turbans, so they involuntarily dropped their weapons, knelt on the ground with their heads down, and surrendered in large numbers like a chain reaction.

The county magistrate standing on the top of the city wall could only sigh when seeing this. Finally, he faced the direction of Luoyang, drew his sword with a sad and helpless look.

"I am incapable of defending the county, and now I can only die to show my loyalty to Your Majesty!"

The county magistrate knelt down towards Luoyang, with his sword across his neck. Although his expression was gloomy, there was no hesitation in his eyes.

His right hand slipped and the sword fell to the ground. A deep wound appeared on his neck, and blood gushed out.

He subconsciously covered his hands with them, but immediately let go of his hands with a tragic smile, calmly accepting his fate of death.

Xu Chen just took a look and turned his head away. Compared to lamenting the county magistrate's so-called loyalty and integrity, he was more heartbroken by the casualties of the Yellow Turbans.

I won my first tough battle, but it was a tragic victory...

I originally wanted to write about the battle in more detail and make the characters more fleshed out, but it seems that the quality is a bit lacking and the feedback is not very good. Some readers think it is not so good. So I will just post these few chapters and then improve the progress later.
