Chapter 44, Scenery, Creation, and Playfulness

Chapter 44, Scenery, Creation, and Playfulness (Please Read)
The second exam of the unified examination was in the afternoon, and there was plenty of rest time at noon, so Jiang Zhe chose to go back to the studio to eat.

As soon as I opened the door, the puppy came to greet me.

Mother came out from the kitchen: "Are you back?"

"How did you do in the exam?" Father Jiang Yi asked almost at the same time.

Because Jiang Zhe's studio was not far from the test site, the couple came together to wait for news.

Jiang Zhe described the morning's exam process to his parents.

Both parents were a little worried.

"You only have one chance to take the provincial entrance exam. If your grades here are not good, it will be like wasting your application."

At present, art candidates can apply for two choices in the college entrance examination, one within the province and the other outside the province.

Jiang Zhe comforted his parents: "The test questions are difficult, and everyone has a hard time. If the questions are too easy, it won't make a big difference in grades."

"Okay, let's eat quickly." After lunch, Jiang Zhe took a short rest and rushed back to the examination room.

Jiang Zhe had made full preparations for the color test in the afternoon. He vaguely remembered that the test question for the Academy of Art seemed to be to describe the scenery from memory.

The admission process in the afternoon is exactly the same as in the morning.

The candidates quickly got into the mood.

The invigilator gives the candidates a four-fold gouache paper and asks them to fill in the information in the information column in the corner of the screen, then closes the information column and then distributes the test questions.

Jiang Zhe looked at the test questions and felt secretly delighted.

My memory was correct, the test question was indeed to describe the scenery from memory.

The test requires that the picture should include elements such as roads, lawns, woods, buildings and people.

Jiang Zhe has simulated similar questions on his own.

When you encounter dictation questions in an exam, it is difficult to maintain a stable performance if you are unprepared and need to rethink.

He quickly decided to create a landscape painting that he had already painted many times. This scene uses cold colors and a horizontal composition, with a large lawn, trees and buildings hidden by the trees, as well as sidewalks, roads and pedestrians.

He used a horsehair brush dipped in raw brown to start the draft, then used watercolor techniques to quickly lay down transparent colors to separate the layers of the distant, middle, and near scenes. When shaping the lawn road in the near scene and the woods and buildings in the middle scene, he began to add gouache techniques. The streets and sky in the distant scene retained some of the original transparent colors.

Through the experience gained from several exams, he found that many candidates with higher skills were good at using large-scale general brushstrokes and thick colors. Therefore, in order to distinguish himself from other candidates, his preset pictures should have both transparent colors and strong colors with covering power.

To achieve this effect, higher skills are required.

While Jiang Zhe was creating, Director Liang and others came to the examination room again. When they saw the works of many candidates, they realized that these people were not well prepared for color landscapes and had not even received much training, resulting in the effect of the paintings being similar to children's paintings.

Some test papers can no longer be disguised as individual or abstract, and can only be explained as childish.

Director Liang walked behind Jiang Zhe and his eyes lit up when he saw his picture.

Jiang Zhe began to lay out the colors of shadows, reflecting the relationship between different objects.

Teacher Qin also came over to look at Jiang Zhe's creation, nodding frequently as he watched. In many students' color test papers, the colors are too hot, or the colors are mixed too much, resulting in gray and dull pictures.

But in Jiang Zhe's paintings, different levels of colors play corresponding roles. Even the dark part of the forest is expressed by the connection and change of colors to maintain a breathable and refreshing feeling. This makes the overall color tone rise to a higher level.

Coincidentally, the scenery he painted just reflected the most beautiful season of the four seasons in Binhai, which resonated with the other teachers who were watching.

Teacher Qin and Director Liang looked at each other and nodded.

Several teachers continued to inspect the exam.

Director Liang already understood the meaning contained in Lao Qin's eyes just now.

Lao Qin really wanted Jiang Zhe to go to their major. However, this matter is really troublesome.

Previously, he thought Jiang Zhe should be a student of the painting department, and no matter what someone said, it would not change the result. However, at noon, he met the dean.

During the conversation, I could vaguely hear what the dean meant.

The Design Department has passed the assessments of higher-level departments in the past two years, but there are very few outstanding works and achievements.

The dean has to consider the overall development of the college.

Although he didn't say it explicitly, he tentatively asked whether a few students could be transferred to the design major.

Director Liang was unwilling to let a good talent like Jiang Zhe go to other majors, so he responded cleverly.

Jiang Zhe didn't know what was happening inside the Art Academy.

His creative state is getting better and better.

In the picture, the natural connection between the illuminated part of the forest and the shadows, and the contrast between cold and warm colors make the picture more colorful and the tonal changes more subtle.

At the end of the creation, he dotted the road with some pedestrians. The figures accounted for a small proportion, but they could add vitality to the picture.

He examined the painting and was satisfied. The color test was better than the one in the morning.

After the exam, Chen Yan was still waiting for him.

"After the exam tomorrow, what do you want to do in the afternoon?"

Jiang Zhe said, "Tomorrow afternoon, I will rest in the studio."

"Then~ I'll go play with you."

Jiang Zhe thought about it and agreed.

……

Jiang Zhe went home and had dinner with his parents.

After dinner, his parents told him to prepare well for the next exam.

Jiang Zhe took the puppy back to the studio to prepare for tomorrow's creative class.

The examination instructions specifically state that candidates must prepare color tools and that gouache or watercolor will be used in creative classes.

Generally speaking, the subject matter of creation is reality. Usually, paintings that are too abstract or too weird are not allowed.

At that time, there were few training courses for creative writing, and for most candidates, writing was a difficult task. Jiang Zhe tried his best to read famous works and practice related works.

On the second day of the unified examination, Jiang Zhe received the test questions in the examination room.

Create a gouache work with the theme of a market.

Jiang Zhe used his brain. This is a realistic subject, and it requires clarity, and it belongs to a group portrait.

When he was preparing for his creation, he painted subjects such as campuses, stations, and street scenes.

So, he chose to set the market as a familiar street scene.

He first sketched a rough draft in a corner of the drawing paper.

In his conception, the flower stalls in the market were chosen as the theme.

The stall owner and the three people who are selecting flowers are the main subjects of the depiction, with other people and the street scene serving as the background, and flowers and other utensils serving as embellishments.

These settings maximize your strengths.

After finishing the sketch, for the sake of caution, he started with pencil and then used gouache to depict it.

Unlike single-person portraits, the stall owner and the two people selecting flowers occupy a small area in the overall picture, so concise strokes must be used to summarize the dynamics, facial features and other elements.

In order to make the picture bright, he set the awning and flowers to the brightest colors. The face of the stall owner under the awning is a little blurry, but his movements can still be seen clearly.

While Jiang Zhe was quickly laying out the colors, Teacher Qin came to the examination room alone to inspect it. She stood behind Jiang Zhe and watched for a long time before leaving.

When the exam was almost over, Director Liang walked into the examination room accompanied by a man in a suit.

The two men walked behind Jiang Zhe and stopped.

At this point, Jiang Zhe's scene was complete.

In the picture, the buildings on both sides of the road and the street extend into the distance. The flower stall, which serves as the main scene, has a red awning. Two people are selecting flowers, and the stall owner under the awning is introducing them.

Because the buildings on both sides of the street are of different heights, the sunlight forms staggered shadows and light-receiving areas on the ground. Some places in the market are in the shadows, while others are in the sun.

The flower stall, which is the main subject of the picture, happens to be in the sun, and the changes in light and dark further highlight the theme.

Jiang Zhe deliberately made the background blurred to better highlight the liveliness of the market, and the atmosphere of fireworks is vividly presented on paper.

The man in the suit turned to look at Director Liang, nodded, and said nothing.

They left the examination room.

At the end of the test, Jiang Zhe re-examined the painting. Although this painting was not his most satisfying work, it should be no problem for him to pass the test.

After finishing the last exam of the unified examination, I felt relaxed.

He walked away carrying his tools, his steps becoming more deliberate.

Candidates left the examination room one after another and gathered in the small square.

Jiang Zhe saw a classmate from high school.

This classmate's name is Li Lu. They had a mediocre relationship before, but when they met a classmate surrounded by strangers, Li Lu took the initiative to say hello.

The two people talked about their respective test questions.

Li Lu applied for the design major. The third test question for the design major was color composition. Turn a still life painting into a color composition.

This is a very flexible question that tests people's thinking and creativity.

Jiang Zhe returned to the studio and his parents were waiting for news from him.

Jiang Yi and his wife went home to rest after they made sure their son had a good exam. Before leaving, they told Jiang Zhe not to relax.

Jiang Zhe agreed readily.

At two o'clock in the afternoon, Jiang Zhe received a call from Chen Yan.

Chen Yan confirmed that Jiang Zhe was at home and quickly knocked on the door of the studio.

Jiang Zhe opened the door and the puppy ran out to greet him.

Chen Yan greeted Jiang Zhe and then picked up the puppy.

She walked into the studio and sat down, placing the puppy on her lap while asking about Kang Chul’s condition.

After they finished talking about the exam, Chen Yan brought up the past: "Jiang Zhe, Leonardo da Vinci has a famous work - Lady with an Ermine. Please draw one for me and Karl."

Jiang Zhe agreed and started preparing the tools.

Chen Yan got into position and kicked off her shoes out of habit.

Jiang Zhe frowned: "What did you do at noon?"

Chen Yan said: "I have make-up classes in the morning and no rest time at noon."

Jiang Zhe looked at her socks. There was nothing unusual about the white socks. "Do you want me to get you a basin of hot water so you can wash your feet?"

Chen Yan glared at him: "What do you mean? You think my feet smell? Where do they smell?" She raised one foot and moved towards Jiang Zhe.

Jiang Zhe silently took a half step back. Such a pretty girl would have this problem.

Chen Yan pretended to be angry: "I only walked a few more steps to come to you. You actually despise me?!

Look at Carl, his nose is so sensitive, and he doesn't even look down on me."

She pushed her white socked feet in front of Jiang Zhe: "Let you despise me."
