Chapter 71, Four Treasures of the Study, Grades (Seeking Follow-up Reading)

7pm.

Jiang Zhe came back from a walk with Xiao Ka, sat at the table, and opened the gift that Teacher Miao had given him again.

In order to complete my daily learning accumulation, I started studying after looking at the album in the afternoon, and then went to eat. I didn’t have time to carefully appreciate the stationery in the box.

Teacher Miao did not introduce these things, so Jiang Zhe could only identify them by himself.

There are seven or eight brushes placed in the long wooden frame in the box.

The largest one is the large grab pen.

Jiang Zhe picked up the brush and observed it carefully. The brush has a majestic and plain appearance. The pen holder is made of a whole piece of ironwood, which is made into a high-footed cup shape. The cup mouth is the pen bowl for the pen head. Two ridges are added at the mouth of the pen bowl for decoration.

The pen body is engraved with the words "Li Dinghe grabs the pen".

The brush tip wool is made of wool and sheep whiskers.

The tip of this pen is red, probably because it has been dipped in cinnabar, and the base of the pen retains the color of wool.

Jiang Zhe took out a ruler to measure the size of the brush tip. It was 11 cm long and 2.6 cm in diameter, which was considered a large brush.

He put down his brush and checked the other brushes.

Other pens include inscriptions from brands such as Li Fushou, Li Dinghe, and Zhou Huchen, and the nib materials include goat hair, wolf hair, etc. These brushes have been dyed with ink or color, and are obviously used frequently.

Jiang Zhe thinks that these brushes all have one characteristic: they are simple yet refined. For example, no matter the size, the engraving and coloring on each pen barrel are done very carefully and meticulously.

He turned on his computer and looked up the brands on these brushes, and found out that they were all old brands from decades ago. Some of them are still in use today.

He used brushes produced after 2010. At that time, nylon filaments were already widely used, and the quality was uneven. The good ones were too expensive, and the bad ones were unusable.

He originally didn't know much about the four treasures of the study, but after acquiring the basic skills of the official style, he gained some experience in the selection and use of traditional calligraphy and painting tools.

Judging from the appearance, you can tell that these brushes are of top quality.

Jiang Zhe put away the brush, took out a rosewood box from the box, opened the lid, and inside was a natural eight-inch Duan inkstone.

The inkstone pool is carved into the shape of a flowing pool, with embossed dragon patterns around it.

He couldn't see the pits on the inkstone, but he could tell that the material of the inkstone was moist and delicate. When he tapped it lightly with his index finger, there was a wood sound.

There is also a small round green inkstone with stone patterns in the box, which looks very similar to the Taohe inkstone. There is cinnabar residue on the edge of the inkstone pool, which should be a vessel specially used to grind cinnabar.

In the two compartments next to the inkstone are white porcelain brushes and a palette.

The rounded shape adds weight to the pen, with a sunken center.

The palette is rectangular with five grids and can also serve as a pen holder.

These two pieces of white porcelain stationery are quite old and have cracks on their surface.

Unfortunately, Jiang Zhe didn't know much about porcelain and couldn't tell when it was made.

Next is the ink block.

In his previous life, he participated in calligraphy training and bought Hui ink, which was a fake product sold on the market.

Grinding ink with fake ink not only made a creaking sound, but also scratched the inkstone. After that, he never bought Hui ink again.

The several pieces of ink given by Teacher Miao were obviously different from the original ones.

Each block of ink has been ground and the surface decoration is very fine. The largest block of ink is in the shape of a square column, with colorful gold-painted characters on the front and the inscription of the Magic City Cao Sugong Ink Factory on the side.

Jiang Zhe checked online and found that this ink should be a special soot ink produced by the Cao Sugong Ink Factory in Shanghai, and customized by the Chinese Painting Research Institute.

There are also two rectangular pieces of Hui ink, with the front of each decorated with gold-filled characters "A rooster crows and the world is bright" and "Seek truth from facts".

Parts of these two pieces of Hui ink have been ground off, and the ground parts are as smooth as a mirror.

The fourth piece of ink is a very small ingot of cinnabar ink.

On the sides of these three ingots of Hui ink are the inscriptions of Wu Kaiwen from Tunzhen and Hu Kaiwen from Tunxi.

Jiang Zhe found out that this was a product of Tunxi Hu Kaiwen, one of the three old state-owned factories, but it was not clear when it was produced.

The last few boxes contain traditional Chinese painting pigments in paper bags and boxes. Most of these pigments are fine powders that need to be added with glue, and a small amount of pigments are in blocks, such as indigo.

There are two special colors, one is gold, which is placed in a small wine cup, called a gold cup. The other is a long red tube of pigment, which is gamboge and needs to be used like grinding ink.

Jiang Zhe looked through the items in the box and gained a new understanding of Teacher Miao's gift.

These items look a little old, but they are all good things with a certain age.

From the information found on the Internet, it would cost a lot of money to collect all these things, and you may not be able to buy items of the same quality.

By reading information about stationery, I have learned a lot about the discovery and current status of domestic stationery in recent decades.

For example, traditional skills such as material selection, decorative patterns, and processing techniques are all worth studying.

Perhaps Teacher Miao’s intention is to let himself know more about traditional culture, so these items should be treasured and not wasted.

Jiang Zhe put away his study box and continued to review his academic subjects.

Since his calligraphy skills have improved, he tries to slow down his writing as much as possible and develop good writing habits, never writing in a sloppy manner.

Because of the example of winning a lottery by touching the album pages, Jiang Zhe took time out to visit the museum and art gallery the next day.

He appreciated the works of some contemporary painters in the art gallery, but received no feedback from the system. He then went to the museum to appreciate some ancient calligraphy and painting works, which also did not cause any response from the system.

Jiang Zhe speculated that this situation might be because these things were replicas, or because he was unable to get close to or even touch the works directly.

If the experiment fails, you can only wait for another opportunity to try again.

After returning home, I once again flipped through the album given to me by Teacher Miao, hoping to gain something from it again, but unfortunately, the system did not respond.

A week later, the custom-made wooden box arrived.

The box is made entirely of camphor wood and lined with velvet. The interior size is just right for storing Mr. Miao's albums.

During this week, Jiang Zhe flipped through the pages of the album every day, but still found nothing new.

It was another Saturday morning. Jiang Zhe was reading a book when he received a call from Chen Yan.

After Chen Yan made money, she also bought a mobile phone, which made it much easier for them to communicate.

"Jiang Zhe, you can check the scores of Binhai Academy of the Arts now. Have you checked it?" Chen Yan asked.

Jiang Zhe knew that the results of the city's college art test would be released today. Binhai Art College had already published a phone number for inquiries.

He looked at the alarm clock on the table. "I haven't checked yet. How are you? What's your rank?"

Hearing Chen Yan's voice, I knew she had received good news.

Chen Yan said: "Guess."

Jiang Zhe: "Within the effective range?"

"No. 27."

Jiang Zhe was also very happy to hear Chen Yan's good news: "That's great. I remember that the modeling major recruits 30 people. As long as the academic subjects are fine, there will be no problem. Congratulations."

Chen Yan said: "Thank you, please check your score quickly and let me know when you find it."

"Okay." Jiang Zhe ended the call and started making an inquiry call.

I called twice before the call was connected.

The phone call is a manual inquiry.

After he reported his test number, the staff checked and said, "Student Jiang Zhe, your art test score is the first in the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts of our school. Congratulations!"
