Hunter x Hunter: Tonight, Germain joins the hunt

Chapter 12 Another Journey to the Dark Continent

Chapter 12 Another Journey to the Dark Continent

Biscuit gave German's contact information and helped him register for the January 1998 hunter exam online. Finally, he promised him that he would let him know the exact location of the exam site when he knew it.

After checking out at noon, the two people who had met briefly parted ways.

"You must become a hunter." Biscuit waved at German and turned around.

Germann watched the petite figure leave, and silently changed her contact name note to "Little Mother-in-law".

From this moment on, German decided to weave his own network of relationships.
-
December 1997, 12 was Christmas in some countries and regions, and the city streets were filled with a festive atmosphere, but none of this had anything to do with German.

In the month since the Phantom Troupe gathering on November 11st and his meeting with Biscuit on the 21nd and 22rd, Germann has dealt with wave after wave of killers and hunters and witnessed all kinds of assassination methods.

At most, he would be assassinated or attacked by four groups of people in one day, and at least by one group. There were several times when it was really dangerous, but he managed to survive in the end.

Once he had survived this period of physical and mental adaptation, and combined with the "Gift of Resentment" function of the Hunter Badge, Germann began to regard defeating incoming enemies as a daily refreshed benefit.

Germain actually cherishes this period of time.

He estimated that the first one or two months would be the peak period for killers and hunters to target him, the new member of the Phantom Troupe, and the number would gradually decrease after that.

There is no way around it, because more and more people will realize that he, the new member, is not a soft persimmon in the Phantom Troupe.

Later it turned out that his guess was correct.

In one month, he obtained a lot of "attribute points" and Buddhist nuns taken from many corpses. Of course, his "clairvoyance pressure" was also increasing steadily.

As of today, Germain has added 13 "attribute points" and 13 "psychic pressure", as well as the ringer that comes and goes quickly.

"Vigorous constitution: 20"

"Endurance: 17"

"Vision Pressure: 26"

If Germann's body could be likened to an army, he has now made this army obey orders and equipped it with a new weapon with powerful firepower, "psychic ability".

As for "vital physique" and "endurance", they can be considered as the army's logistical support capabilities.

Laymen often cannot see the tricks, but they are indeed important factors for the army to defeat the enemy.

German could feel that his physical fitness was getting better and better, and he was becoming more and more adept at using "telepathy" to deal with the enemies.

Perhaps it was because he had not yet encountered killers like the Zoldyck family, or hunters like Biscuit.

All in all, in this month, German has been getting familiar with life in the hunter world while showing his sharp fangs to the outside world.

Now, after a month of accumulation, it is time for him to challenge the Dark Continent for the second time.

In the quiet dark night, he came to the remote suburbs and found an abandoned mine.

He set up a simple trap nearby, and then materialized a lantern in the dark cave.

In an instant, gloomy and deep purple light filled the mine like a sparkling lake.

The four messenger ghosts were still clinging to the lamp base and the lamppost, gazing at German pitifully, and their vague sobs seemed to express the sorrow of waiting silently for the past month.

"Got it, got it." German nodded to them hungrily.

Germann couldn't tell the difference between the messenger imps, nor did he care about it. He just casually extended his little finger to one of the messenger imps.

"I'll choose you this time."

The little devil howled with joy and quickly reached out to grab German's little finger, while the other three little devils could only cry out in disappointment.

The lantern showed two lines of words. "Lantern location: Dark Continent, Dry Valley"

"Cooling time: 2 minutes (cooled down)"

After a chaotic spin, Germain and the messenger imp holding his little finger disappeared into the mine, and the lantern disappeared with them.

The mine returned to its natural darkness.

At the same time, in the blink of an eye, German arrived at the dry river valley and breathed the fresh air there.

"This is the second time..."

It was night in the mines, but it was day here.

The first thing Germann did was to look down at the lantern at his feet. Surrounded by four messenger ghosts, it displayed two lines of text that were slightly different from the previous ones.

“Lantern Location: Abandoned Mine, Central Islands of Lake Mobius”

"Cooling time: 4 minutes (countdown 3:59)"

The Central Islands of Lake Mobius are easy to understand. They are the area where humans currently live. Compared with the Dark Continent, it is indeed only the size of an archipelago.

German also used this to determine the pattern of the cooling time of the lantern transmission. It was very simple, that is, each cooling time was doubled of the previous one.

At first it was used immediately, which can be ignored, then it was 1 minute, then 2 minutes, now it is 4 minutes, and after that it will probably be 8 minutes.

The cooling time will only get longer in the future.

"So, are the bugs from last time still around this time?"

He quickly looked around and soon noticed something unusual.

Instead of seeing the flesh-sucking red bug that appeared last time, I saw another huge creature.

Judging from its appearance alone, it should be a centipede, but in terms of size, it is comparable to a twenty-two-carriage train.

Pairs of walking legs, supporting the slender and twisted limbs, waved their tentacles, and crawled to the edge of a small mound of earth not far away.

"Is it a centipede this time?" German pondered.

The "centipede" suddenly shook "rustlingly", and black smoke was seen spreading from its limbs into the air, and then lightly fell on the ground of the dry river valley.

After a while, those "earth mounds" and "rock layers" that were either raised or buried in the soil shed their original camouflage, returned to their bright red color, and revealed their true appearance.

It was the same group of red bugs that German saw last time.

The red bug, which was full of energy that day, trembled for a while under the black fog of the centipede, then fell to the ground, unable to move anymore.

The centipede immediately climbed onto one of the bugs, its tiny hooked legs piercing into the bug's flesh shell, and its palatal teeth bit into its little head, tearing open the skin and flesh, enjoying a delicious meal.

"The toxin is enough to stun the red bug and soften its shell..." German muttered to himself as he made his judgment. "The poisonous centipede and the flesh-sucking red bug are part of the food chain in this area."

In order to explore the Dark Continent more safely and efficiently, although he would not stay there for too long, Germann specially bought a backpack of items this time.

These include compasses, remote-controlled bombs, medicines, compressed biscuits, drinking water, etc.

He bought several bottles of emergency antidote, but he didn't know if it would be effective against the poison of the poisonous fog centipede.

German took a step towards the poisonous mist centipede.
