Chapter 55: First Team Departure
Germain looked out the window.

"The human world is already very large, but it is only a small part of this world. The Dark Continent is the real world."

"In the same way, the universe is very vast, and our planet is so small. In the real universe, nothing is strange."

"But if we are too afraid to take that first step into the universe, human evolution will come to an end."

He paused, then continued, "This is my last question. You still have time to withdraw, as long as you promise not to leak the information. Do you want to withdraw?"

The chill of the night seeped silently into the house. The originally noisy and fragmented sounds disappeared at some point, leaving only the world of silence.

Biscuit and Xiaodi looked at each other, then looked at German with different expressions.

"I don't want to quit." Xiaodi stroked the inverted cross on her chest with her fingers. "Isn't it a pity that I gave up when there was something profitable right in front of me?"

"Besides..." Biscuit added, "Even if your hypothesis is correct, why don't we just not look for it? The legs are on our bodies, can it control our will?"

Germain closed his eyes, then opened them again.

He had expected them to say this, so he was not surprised. He said, "Then, let's follow the original plan, take a day off tomorrow, and set off at dawn the day after tomorrow."

"The goal this time is to explore deeper into the Dark Continent, find valuable loot along the way, and return safely without suffering any serious damage."

Biscuit and Xiaodi both nodded in agreement.

This was the decision the three of them had made before. Originally, they could have played it safe and returned to the area that Germain had explored, but none of them were the kind of people who feared danger.

After reaching an agreement, everyone took a day off the next day until the early morning of the 22nd, when everything was quiet.

Most of the lights in the luxury suite had been turned off, leaving only a single light bulb emitting a dim light, casting a circle of light on the area where the three people were sitting.

"Just one last check, are you ready?" German first checked his backpack and then asked.

Xiaodi nodded and put her backpack in front of her eyes: "I'm ready."

"Me too." Biscuit confirmed, "Also, the 'doctor' I mentioned to you earlier is already in place nearby."

"But she's a very shy child. She probably wouldn't come over without my message."

German nodded and said, "That's fine. There's no need to let too many people know the inside story. Just let her think it's just an ordinary commission."

"Don't worry, that kid is very reliable." Biscuit suddenly became excited and stood up with his hands on his hips. "Hurry up and let me see your "lantern."

"Yeah." Germann said nothing more.

He first stretched out his right palm, and used his mental energy to materialize a "Hunter Badge" that looked like a broken fragment. Then, he used it to materialize a "lantern" in the center area where the three people were sitting.

Purple light fell from the Hunter Badge like water drops, dripping onto the ground and creating ripples.

After a while, an ancient lantern emerged from the lake-like floor, and on the lamp base lay four emaciated little ghosts who looked like the mummies of premature babies.

"Even though I heard you say it once, it still gives me chills when I actually see it." Biscuit stared at the little ghosts and commented, "It doesn't look like a 'mind beast', it looks like a part of a 'lantern'."

The four little ghosts were not shaken at all by the presence of two strangers. They still howled at German as if they were acting like spoiled brats, but the howling was too creepy in the dark night.

Xiaodi touched the inverted cross on his chest and suggested, "I feel like we need to hurry up. If someone hears a noise like this in the early morning, they might come over to check it out."

"Maybe it will become a ghost story in this hotel." Biscuit smiled maliciously.

German nodded in agreement and said, "Then just stretch out your hands and shake them together."

He demonstrated by stretching out a hand and holding the hand of one of the little ghosts, who immediately let out a cry of surprise.

Biscuit and Xiaodi looked at each other and reached out their hands to touch the rough, cold fingers. They could feel the fragility of the little ghosts, as if they could crush them to death at any time. Only one little ghost was not chosen. It did not howl, but hugged the lamp holder in disappointment and weakness.

"Do they also have the concept of 'emotions'?" Xiaodi asked curiously.

"Probably," Germann replied, "I've tried to communicate with them before, but they can't make any other sounds besides crying and joy."

Biscuit raised a finger and said, "That means we can't communicate, and it can only be used to guide 'transmission'."

German nodded, then looked at the content projected by the "lantern".

"Lantern location: Dry valley/mud land"

"Cooling time: 32 minutes (cooled down)"

"Let's start." German first reminded Biscuit and Xiaodi, and then said to the three little ghosts, "Take us to the "Mud Land."

Biscuit and Xiaodi, who were somewhat nervous, felt at the same time that the little ghosts were holding their fingers much tighter, and then the scene before their eyes changed in an extremely strange way.

The sky was spinning, the stars were shifting, and the surrounding scenes were all distorted and shattered, and then reassembled in a very short time.

It was daytime here, and the surrounding area was a forest of reeds so tall that it almost looked like a forest, except that a large section had been burned, leaving gray embers.

The first thing Germann did was to look at the edge of the muddy land and discovered that the corpse of the Lord of Crows was gone.

There are traces of dragging around, and the direction of dragging is exactly the depths of the "mud land".

His eyes narrowed in alertness.

Is it cannibalism, or has a new king emerged, or has this place been occupied by another species?

Germain gave up trying to figure out what was going on and turned to look at Biscuit and Xiaodi, who were looking around curiously.

"It looks like we have indeed been teleported to a certain place." Biscuit stroked the ground, kneading the loose soil. "Even the day and night are reversed. Is it a problem of longitude and latitude?"

Germain looked up at the sky, then at Biscuit and Xiaodi.
"I thought so too. So I chose to teleport to the Dark Continent four times, around 1am each time, but at different locations."

"But no matter where I teleport from one end of the six continents to the other, it will always be daytime when I finally arrive here."

"The last time I took a compass with me, I walked north for more than half an hour. Every time I came across an open space, I stuck a branch into the ground and observed the changes in its shadow."

"The shadow keeps moving from northwest to due north, getting shorter and shorter. I guess it's probably morning."

Biscuit pursed his lips.

"That is to say, the Six Continents are too small compared to the Dark Continent. It probably only occupies less than one time zone..."

"This is the northeast side of Lake Mobius, the heart of the Dark Continent."

Note: The cooldown time has been corrected here. I forgot to double it once before (awkward)

Sorry, this update is later than scheduled, mainly because I am struggling with many settings
Showto said that there are billions of people in the six continents. Such a six continent, when placed on the dark continent diagram, is not even as big as Taiwan Island, and the six continents still follow a 24-hour system.

In addition, we have to consider that the map of the Dark Continent released may only be a small part, whether Lake Mobius is actually pitifully small, whether it is in the northern or southern hemisphere, whether it is on the equator, etc.
How to calculate the terminator and the sun's direct point

I feel like my head is exploding.
The initial idea was to simply copy the Earth's time zone, regardless of why this huge planet rotates on its own axis, it still has a 24-hour rotation, regardless of where Lake Möbius is, but the more I thought about it, the more complicated it became.
Finally, I decided to completely abandon the overly complicated geography and time settings. Trying to get stuck in an area that I am not good at at all will only lead to a miserable death. The more I write, the more loopholes there will be. It will be ridiculous in the eyes of professionals. It is better to think about what I am really good at.

The most important thing is that the real earth should not be directly applied here. This is a fantasy and magical world.
The real setting of the Dark Continent will be released in Togashi's lifetime.
I forgot where I saw it, but the current setting is more like humans setting out from Earth to explore the Dark Continent deep in the solar system. I agree with this.
