Chapter 70: Machi's Call

German used a meat saw to cut down a tree for building material.

When he was cutting off the branches and leaves of the trees, leaving only the trunks, he noticed that there were many wild animals nearby, eyeing him as an uninvited guest.

These beasts seemed quite wary and hostile towards the human who had rashly trespassed into their territory.

Germain, the titular "beast hunter," now literally lives among the beasts.

In fact, the real beast hunter should be Nakulu, the disciple of Mo Laowu who is still a one-star hunter.

The master and apprentice pair of Mo Laowu and Na Kulu will play a very important role in future Chimera Ant invasions.

The beast hunter's duty is to maintain the balance in nature, protect rare beast species, and restrict ferocious, brutal or over-reproducing beast species.

Nakulu has certainly done that.

German, however, has his own way of doing things, and even his own way of interpreting “Beast Hunter”.

No matter what, German will live here for a while. If he can get along well with the beasts, it would be the best, but if not, there is nothing he can do.

Let’s talk about the law of the wild: the survival of the fittest.

He had just moved the felled tree trunks back to the designated open space when he heard his cell phone ringing. He took it out of his pocket and saw that the caller ID read "Bad Woman".

The language in the Hunter World was somewhat abstract, but with his original body's memories and the adaptation he had undergone over the past few months, Germain had no problem reading and writing.

Why did she call? German thought. The fee for "Mind Silk Suture" was paid in full last time, so it can only be...

"Maggie." Germann answered the phone and asked directly without any small talk, "What's going on?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone for two seconds, and then Machi's voice came.

"Last November, when you joined the Phantom Troupe, didn't the leader say that there would be a 'group activity' this year?" Machi's tone was still cold. "The latest instructions have come down. I'll pass them on to you."

"On February 12, we will meet at Saint Valentine, the 'Valentine's City'. All members must attend. As for the goal, the leader will explain it at that time."

It was indeed this. Germain had guessed correctly.

The organizational structure of the Phantom Troupe is a bit like a pyramid scheme. Under normal circumstances, German has no contact with Chrollo, and any instructions are given to him by his superior, Machi.

In a sense, he was introduced to Kuroro by Machi and developed as a subordinate.

Germann thought back to the night he came into this world, and the gathering of the Phantom Troupe that shouldn't have existed, and became even more certain that this "collective activity" shouldn't have happened.

In other words, it may exist in the original timeline, but without the conditions for all members of the Phantom Troupe to participate, everyone still does their own thing.

German's arrival triggered some changes.

But it doesn't matter what happens.

He didn't want to participate in the Phantom Troupe's "activities" in the first place, not to mention that the time conflicted with his own training time.

However, he does not have the ability to confront the Phantom Troupe yet, and it would be quite troublesome for him to face off against the members of the Phantom Troupe.

If it’s someone like Wo Jin who likes to fight one-on-one, he can’t say that he will definitely win, but at least he can try to fight.

If it were other members, they would most likely attack together to ensure that German was killed at the lowest cost and not give him any chance to counterattack.

But Germain does not have the "resurrection" ability like Hisoka. The best he can do is teleport himself to the Dark Continent at the most dangerous moment.

He now needs strength, teammates and time. The former two are being catalyzed and increased in an orderly manner, so what he needs most now is to delay time.

Even if it's just delayed for a month or two, until he sees results from his practice, that would be good.

German needed an excuse, an excuse that satisfied his multiple identities as a Meteor Streeter, a Dark World Killer, the 8th member of the Phantom Troupe, and a Beast Hunter.

What kind of person he really is is not important. What is important is what kind of person he has become in the eyes of the Phantom Troupe members in the past few months? Killing many killers and unlicensed hunters is in line with Germain's usual style.

Taking the hunter exam and obtaining a license is not strange. Xiake already has a hunter license, and Hisoka was a candidate at the same time, but he just didn't pass.

In order to fight the enemy in the middle of the night, Machi was invited in early, which shows how belligerent they are.

He and the woman of unknown appearance and name killed more than half of the "Yin Beast members" and walked away, forcing the "Ten Old Men" to withdraw the reward on him.

From this point of view, in the eyes of the Phantom Troupe members, "German" should be a bloodthirsty, publicity-loving, and highly goal-oriented person.

"What's wrong?" Machi had a bad feeling when she didn't hear a reply. "You don't want to say that you can't come?"

"I really don't want to go." Germann replied, "I thought the Phantom Troupe would be a free organization. I joined for this reason, but I didn't expect it to be so troublesome."

"What's the problem?" Machi retorted, "From the very beginning, the Phantom Troupe has been an organization with the leader as the brain and the twelve members as the legs and feet."

"Chrollo made that clear on your first day of joining."

German said, "The leader has so much power. But if a member dies, the one who killed the member can join. Then what about the leader?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a while.

"What do you want to say?" Machi's tone was a little surprised. "If you have some crazy ideas, it's best not to say them out."

"I don't want to fight Kuroro like Hisoka did." Germann changed the subject, "But, since Kuroro can be the leader, then theoretically, I can be the leader too, right?"

"I don't like the current Phantom Troupe. If I were the leader of the Phantom Troupe, there wouldn't be these rules."

"If Kuroro is willing to hand over the position of leader to me..."

Beep—Maggie hung up the phone without saying a word, showing her anger.

The rules of the Phantom Troupe do have a clause that the troupe is more important than the leader, and once the leader dies, someone else must be found to inherit the position of leader.

As long as it is for the good of the brigade, the commander can be sacrificed.

But rules are dead, while years of friendship and trust are alive.

Members like Machi and Paknotta could not treat their childhood friends coldly like machines.

Germain looked at the phone screen and shook his head.

“In this way, we have a messenger.”

He turned off his phone and watched the screen go dark.

"For the next month or so, I will completely cut off contact with the outside world and immerse myself in spiritual practice."

He did not tell Bisky or the Hunter Association about the Phantom Troupe's upcoming action because it was meaningless.

Kuroro did not deliberately state the goal, but only explained the time and place of the rendezvous, in order to ensure that the plan would not be leaked as much as possible.

Of course, it was also to prevent Hisoka's surprise attack. He knew very well why Hisoka joined the Phantom Troupe.

Given his cautiousness, once he noticed something wrong near the gathering place, the "party" would be terminated, and he would start from the beginning to find out why the plan was leaked.

Not to mention that Germain now asks to recommend himself as the leader and refuses to participate in the "party". After Machi tells Kuroro about the situation, Kuroro will definitely take corresponding actions.
